Preston Gale is a super athlete. If it is serious it is bad news. However, the good news is the Cats have great depth at that positon and will be fine. The major difference this year is that there is good depth at every positon. Experience wise may not be as good but talent wise-excellent!

Bobcat fans keep saying you're so deep everywhere. I think you have confused the term quality depth. Just because someone has talent and you liked their high school recruiting tape doesn't necessarily mean they add quality depth. It could, but...Preston Gale was your starter for a reason. You don't have any other D ends as big, physical, and experienced as him other than maybe your other starter, Daly. It's a bummer, to be sure, but it's kind of ridiculous to assume their won't be a big drop-off. Remember, if his backup becomes the starter then another, even less qualified player has to rotate in at some point. That's how injuries to starters have a trickle-down effect. You might have exciting prospects, but I just don't see much quality depth across your d-line, o-line, or linebacking crew. I'll keep looking though...

Wrong, yes Gale was slated as the starter as he was the best. But, with the talent we have there is not a huge drop off. In fact, it will be minimal. Obviously, you don't have much knowledge about the depth situation overall. Keep looking. You are going to be surprised!

Daly and then Gale. We had bookends until this happened. We have lost two out of the three best players we had on D. I talked with our SID, two coaches who are really good friends and a player. At best, major knee sprain. I've blown my ACL and I know that yell. It makes you want to puke.

I really hope Preston is okay. He has worked his butt off. He is a tremendous talent. Yes, I agree if we lose him it is a tremendous loss. But, someone will step up. I do believe someone will fill that gap and do a good job. You give people an opportunity sometimes and they go to the next level. Sometimes you think this person can never be as good as the starting guy. But these things happen all the time. Look at Caleb Scriebeis. He was a walk on. He worked his butt off, got an opportunity and wins the highest award you can get on defense in the FCS. The Cats are in a good position to have a talented player to step up. A few years ago you couldn't say that. Let the games begin. If we don't have someone, it will become evident real soon.

Hell yes this hurts the Cats. Gale is a great player, but mostly I feel sorry for the kid. His 2011 ACL was right in front of me and a total fluke during a punt cover against a DII team, and this one seems to be equally strange. This is a bummer.

Now, assuming he's out, the word that matters most is thin. 33 isn't that far off actually, and our coaches have been on record saying that Coe is a fantastic DE. I remember one quote where Bo Beck said if Gale starts to slip even a little bit, he will (and I quote) "unleash the #10 on the conference". That's very high praise for our backup, and it was possible that Coe was going to end up the starter anyway. What this has done is made an already thin defense even thinner. This is starting to become scary and I'm having visions of the 2011 EWU team that had their OL playing on fumes. In our game in Cheney that year, they had a converted TE playing center because they were literally out of guys. At least on defense, we seem to be heading in that direction.

Sorry, but the programs are still very far apart. Just because we had one bad season does not mean the cants are caught up. They still have yet to have a season even close to as good as the griz had between two coaching changes and down years. They have not arrived yet, they just aren't as bad as they used to be.

Coe will do a good job, its the depth behind him that has me concerned because Coe has a history of shoulder problems. Vick and Verlanic are good players, and have done a good job with the limited time they have received the last couple of years, it just hasn't been a lot. No idea if Heath Hunter is playing LB or DE. Wilcox has to sit out this year due to the transfer rule (FCS to FCS) and Hutchins is suspended this year (no idea what that is about).

on a side not it's funny to see that not even injuries can be discussed with reason in this rivalry! if cat fans were talking up gale all year and saying what a stud he was all we'd here from some griz fans is how he sucks, he's slow, and no chance he'd even see the field for the griz. however, when said player gets hurt all we hear from some griz fans is what a devastating loss this will be because we just lost easily our best player and it'd be like the griz losing their all-American. meanwhile cats play it off like gale is just another player and really no better than the guys he was starting in front of. :wtf:
