Another key cat injured

Bigsky33, I know what a body bag game is and the SMU game is definitely a body bag game. You keep referring to the cats as being so deep this year. I know one thing that is deep coming from you cat posters.
And I do hope Gale is not seriously hurt and if he is best of luck for a full and speedy recovery.

SMU hasn't been anybody's "body bag game" since Doak Walker played for the Mustangs a thousand years ago - before they got nailed with the NCAA Death Penalty...Simply playing an FBSer doesn't qualify as a bb game....how good can a team be that keeps having its QB's transfer to Cheney :?: ;)

seriously. :thumb:

the term "body-bag" game is so stupid anyway and as bigsky33 said it's more of a myth than anything. find Delaney and ask him; would he be more worried about griz injuries playing Tennessee or Montana western? the answer might surprise you.

people who say body bag game really are doing a disservice to the strength and athleticism of our fcs players.

May need to check your history, long after Doak Walker played for SMU they had a little backfield they called the Pony Express...........

Lots of msu threads over here today

That's because we are not envious of our rivals and insecure about talking about them like the 8 of you guys on kittynation. It's softer than puppy shit over there. Had to create a separate forum for the griz in order to get out of their shadow.

Good luck with that concept sinking in....

That ship sailed long ago.

Sorry, but the programs are still very far apart. Just because we had one bad season does not mean the cants are caught up. They still have yet to have a season even close to as good as the griz had between two coaching changes and down years. They have not arrived yet, they just aren't as bad as they used to be.

That is not at all what I meant.

What I was getting at was; good luck getting the cat posters to understand the irony of their incessant presence on this board.

In other words, I was agreeing with you.

Some Cat fans spend entirely too much time over here.

At the same time you have to understand that the Griz are the only other fanbase in the Sky that actually has a big online presence, and loves to talk football not just about the Griz, but the BSC. There is more information here than AGS or CS.com, plus we are all (or were) Montanans at one point so there is a bond there.

I come here for that purpose. Many Cat posters come here to ruffle feathers or just to talk up the Cats, and I'm not a fan of that.

As for the topic, I hope Coe grows up fast because he is the guy now (unless Gale comes back, I'm not hopeful). Coe was a stud in high school and was at the time thought to be a big get for the Cats, but hasn't made a big splash yet, has been oft injured, and has been behind some talented players. He is only a soph though.

Other than that, Vick and Verlanic are serviceable, a bit undersized, but mostly unproven.

I'm hopeful Coe can stay healthy and be a force.

It gets real thin after the Vs. Hutchins is ineligible, Wilcox has to sit out after transferring from Grambling, and we've already moved guys around to LB because of the injuries there.

I think we are fine right now, but I don't see us finishing top 3 in defense this year with these losses, but by no stretch is the Cat defense going to be bad, barring any more injuries.

Good post and realistic. Quite frankly there are not many FCS teams that can withstand injuries and hold up well. Just not enough schollies and players at each position. I am very nervous as a Griz fan early in fall practice and until the season starts. Seems like teams are destined to lose somebody early due to a freak injury. (Hilliard comes to mind) I hate ( really can't emphasize that enough) seeing kids get injured regardless the team they play for. Hope he and the others get well. I really like seeing teams at full speed and let the best one win!

Coe is very good, all Big Sky player, should not be a huge dropoff there if gale can't return. Hayden Vick is an animal but definitely needs game reps to be an all conference performer. Behind them it might get sketchy. As others have pointed out, this definitely hurts but the Bobcats really do have quality depth now, at most positions. (TE is our scariest position right now with virtually no depth.). You'll see our depth when we start playing games.

Regarding "Body Bag" games... that's a myth. Ash states that injuries are more likely when you play down rather than up, and I believe him.

Poorgriz is right -on. As Coach Beck said, Coe is right there with Gale. That's what I meant when I said we do have some quality depth. Vick and Verlanic are solid right now and are getting better every day in practice. Yes, any time you lose a player and I hope we don't, like Gale yes it hurts . However, last year people thought the sky would fall when we lost Minter and other guys stepped up. We didn't have a healthy Minter all last season. Taylor Dees & Taylor Sheridan stepped up. With Connor Thomas coming on strong Dees or Sheridan could be moved to DE. These are all quality players. Look at Schreibies, he was a walk on and came on to be the very best in the Big Sky. I know Preston has worked extremely hard this past year and was really excited to show what he can do this year. I just hope it's not serious and he gets the opportunity.

As for "Body Bag" games, like I said before ask any coach and they will tell you more injuries occur when you play down as the players are less skilled and make more mistakes that can cause serious injury.

You can believe what you want about the Cats, their depth and the effect of these injuries. We will all see once the season begins.

Well then maybe you should get your priorities straight and quit working Thurman!

Man, I hope it isn't serious.
Pretty sure it is, he let out one hell of a scream and had to be carried off the field, such a shame.

That's what I do every time I shank a golf ball into the lake. He may very well be back.

Wrong, yes Gale was slated as the starter as he was the best. But, with the talent we have there is not a huge drop off. In fact, it will be minimal. Obviously, you don't have much knowledge about the depth situation overall. Keep looking. You are going to be surprised!

Are you shitting me? Have you been to a practice this year? Were you at the scrimmage? This shit happened right in front of me. It's a really big f***[*] deal. Step away form the pipe and get a clue.

Thank you. Someone who gets it. Gale might be your best player on defense

Daly and then Gale. We had bookends until this happened. We have lost two out of the three best players we had on D. I talked with our SID, two coaches who are really good friends and a player. At best, major knee sprain. I've blown my ACL and I know that yell. It makes you want to puke.

Did Daly get hurt too? :( Hope I am misreading it.

He was saying Daly is their best player and then Gale is 2nd best. Daly is healthy at the moment.

LOL Hammer your living in the past. Bugger will not get you into the promised land!

You guys forget, BIGSKY33 is a Cats fan, and therefor not used to making the playoffs, year after year after year like us, this may be why he thinks the GRIZ, after one bad year, are living in the past expecting another playoff run this year. Also if BIGSKY33 mentions the Cats depth one more time...Im putting my nuts in a meat grinder

I have a feeling their depth is as deep as their playoff runs.

Let's not forget that there is a group of students at UM, entering their 4th and final year at UM, who have seen the Griz only make the playoffs once during their time at UM. ;)
