Big picture time. Bobby comes back to town and gets ambushed by the Missoulian (and others) with how bad the kids in the program were last time around. Alpha gone wild is all Bobby's fault.

Bobby plays nice and it does no good with the MIssoulian. Then the biggest unfounded flame-thrower against UM football program gets elevated to editor. Once things cooled down over the off season Bobby had time to reflect on what this year would be like. Take control guys that are good coaches take control.

It is if the press keeps asking questions about it. Of course a coach may want to steer the narrative so the minds of the players are on this game and not the losses at the end of last season.

Do you really think that BH's method of showing open disdain and contempt to the press is the best way to restore the image of a program that has been severely tarnished since his last tenure? Especially since his last go around ended in a major pissing match with the student paper. It just seems to me that you hire a head coach to do more than coach X's and O's and he is going out there and pissing on everything he can find. I guess if that is what you want, have fun, I know I will from over here the other side of the divide. :thumb:

Doesn't seem like that bad of a question and definitely not bad enough to warrant making enemies in the press. In fact it seems pretty legitimate to ask based on how the last game went.

I am not pro Missoulian but I also think reporters should have the right to ask this type of question. It really was a easy answer for Dalton.

I understand that but why couldn’t Frank just say “how excited are you to finally play a home game?” And just leave it at that? Why’d he have to add the “after last season” comment? I just don’t think that part was necessary. Everybody knows the team is excited to play at home and I don’t really see any point in why he had to add in that last part.

To me, the question was just plain dumb. The first part made no sense connected to the second part.

What does last season in general have to do with playing the second game at home, or any game at home? I can understand how last season's last game with the Cats is connected with this year's Cat game.

I don't see how last season (the whole season) is connected with this season, especially after one game.

Personally, I think too many sports reporters ask dumb questions. They should do better. They should have a higher standard. I'm okay with giving little kids ribbons, but at some point, especially in business, everyone doesn't get a ribbon. I suppose it's true that sportswriters have the right to ask dumb questions, but coaches have the right to answer those questions the way they want, in my view.

This team finished poorly ending it with a home loss to their biggest rival and getting knocked out of the playoffs. Its the same situation that got the last staff fired.

If you ever played the game you would know there is nothing more motivating to a player of a coach to bounce back from an embarrassing loss, play etc.

More importantly we as fans have last years ending etched in our minds and are anxious to see if this team bounces back.....as we should be. So yes, it is very relevant and I guarantee you all that Bobby is reminding his players and coaches of this everyday.

It was a new coach and staff and a team that didn't have enough talent or depth. The team played fairly well for much of the year, and certainly in the first 3 quarters of games. The team didn't have the depth or talent, or running ability, to finish games. This year looks very different, based on one game.

Again, a starter from the 2017 team told me that the 2018 overachieved, in his opinion, and based on the lack of talent and depth. Not that they didn't a lot of very good players, but not enough. This opinion means more to mean that anything from you, or anyone else on egriz for that matter.

You told us that Hauck didn't have the locker room last year. That was wrong. It was good last year, and even better this year.

Press conferences are held to give the media info. The media in turn provides some of the info in their releases, articles and shows. The media gets their info from many other sources. No coach answers every question. Many coaches protect their players from the media or certain questions.

If reporters want good answers and cooperation, they should ask good questions and show some respect and not be adversarial, at least in a small market and town like this. This is common sense.

Several home losses in the playoffs were much worse endings for me, than last year. Delaware, U Mass, Woffird. The national championshi; losses. The expectations of victory were much higher in those games.

One more thing. I'm not so sure that Hauck is bringing up last year and the ending of the last game. It happened. Everyone knows it. It wasn't nice. Now, the team needs to prepare for the future, and not look back. It seems to have done that and be doing it My sophomore year, we lost our undefeated season in our last game. Got clobbered. We played the same team in the 3d game the next year. No coach or player said a word about the prior year's game. We all knew what had happened. We won 38-0 the following year, and it could've been 50-0 if the coach had played the starters for more than one series the second half.

Did the press conference not provide information? Have they not provide info in the past? Pretty sure I never said anything about it being personal for the reporter. TBH, most fans that are all pissy about this are either a. entitled fans that expect everything about the program to be available or b. fans that have not been on board with Hauck being hired and want every reason to push that narrative. Seriously, this is pretty easy to dissect. Bobby and the team have focused greatly on flushing last year. He has told them we will not speak of it and we are moving forward.

We know for fact he has told the press that they won’t speak of injuries (but Gogola asks anyways....dumb). We can assume he has also told them we are moving on from last year. Yet, Gogola asks anyways. This guy isn’t too bright.

You say he didnt lose the locker room last year. I think he did. They are both opinions not facts. Aside from the things I heard, I based my opinion more on the way the season unfolded. I also played the game. When a team collapses like this one did last year its usually a sign that not all is well behind the scenes.

Winning at home 22-7 against your in state rival going into the 3rd quarter and giving up 22 fourth quarter points is an epic collapse.

It was a question that Hauck didn't want asked of his players, so he stepped in. I say great. Hauck is the coach and I think he knows what he is doing in terms of keeping his players focused on this season.

Hauck doesn't have thin skin. Probably fairly , tho.
