Portal ruining FCS

Yeah, just save and work hard for 37 hours per week, 46 weeks per year, and retire with a pension at 58. I did it 50 years ago, so everyone else should be able to do the same just as easily. My generation didn’t ruin the economy three times to sit here and watch these entitled kids play football at the college of their choosing.

You sound woke.

I’m coming straight to San Antone to take all of your guns and turn the whole city into non-binary vegans. Then, we’re changing the curriculum to include a whole semester about Portlandia. Finally, we’re getting rid of July 4th celebrations and replacing them with an annual CrepeFest/Public Orgy, and you won’t be invited, sir. Spurs is offensive to horses and other oppressed four-legged rideables. Get ready for the San Antonio Beings.

Bullsh*t. The portal did not ruin the FCS. Notice all these powerhouse FCS programs that have pulled a Boise, Nevada, Georgia Southern, etc. move to FBS:

Here is the problem I see with the portal. It’s mainly ruining coach-player-team loyalty. Any player that has amazing talent will only last a season or two if they have a break out season and will leave at first chance they get. If I was a coach I would want players that wanna stay for the long term.
Two other issues I see is the NIL and the loosing a year of play time if you transfer. Now the players love the NIL but you are now effectively making FCS a pro sport, and it’s not. College first and foremost is about education. NIL is doing to the FCS what Free agency did to the NFL.

I think there needs to be some revisions to the portal rules.
#1) If a player decides to transfer after being with a program for 2+ consecutive seasons and is on full ride, tuition should be payed back because some kids rely on scholarship to go to college and what a waste if a kid decides to leave. However I would add the clause that if a kid does not see the field or is not on full ride, tuition doesn’t have to be payed back.
#2) A senior can transfer with 1 year of eligibility if they are out with an injury or a coaching staff change is made and screws that player and no tuition payback would be needed.
#3) this is one is kind of take it or leave it but players cannot transfer more than 2 times in their career unless offered by another school after the second time. Maybe even add you are not eligible for NIL after your second transfer.

I’m just thinking a lot out load here. I just wanna see more player-team loyalty because right now it seems there is none.

There was never loyalty with the coach. The portal is the best thing that's ever happened to college athletics. The player is now in charge.

To a degree yes, but then the player loses that power the moment they enter with no offers and remain stuck there.

You haven’t been to SA lately, have you? A large portion of it is ALREADY gun-averse non-binary homeless vegans. Bexar, Travis, Harris, Dallas and El Paso counties are the liberal safe zones in the great free state of Texas.

Oh, and you’re preaching to the choir about the Spurs. Hate that fucking team—and that POS coach. :thumb:

The portal is only hurting teams with coaching staffs who choose not to embrace what it can do for a roster. You dont have to wait 2 and 3 recruiting cycles to fix a roster anymore, you can do it in one off season if your committed enough.

And we’re here in year 5 and people still blame Stitt for where we’re at?

No, Stitt is blamed for from where we started from. Out of the top 30.

But if his assertion is true that you don’t have to wait 2-3 recruiting cycles to “fix” your program, what’s the holdup? 8-)

It’s taken Hauck 5 years to fix our program and go from 5-3 in conference to……4-4.

Hauck fixed it on 2d season.

I wouldn’t call .500 ball in conference “fixed”. In season 5. He INHERITED a team that had just gone 5-3.

Conf rank is virtually meaningless. Anyone who understands football knows that. Talking about conf rank when the team wins playoff games is just plain stupid.

Winning a play-in game is meaningless. Talking about winning play-in games against mediocre one-bid conferences is just plain stupid.

It’s not a play-in game. It is not meaningless. Caring about conf rank is meaningless.
