Taylor inherited one of the most talented teams in the BSC who had spent the previous half decade with absolutely atrocious coaching. His situation is much closer to Mike Houston's at JMU--easily one of, if not the most talented team in the FCS year after year that simply suffered from bad coaching--where these types of jumps are actually doable. It also helps that Taylor might be the best coach in the conference, and one of the best in all of FCS.

If it's so easy for great coaches to immediately turn programs around, why does Cal Poly suck dogshit this year? Beau Baldwin is easily one of the best coaches the BSC has seen this century.

I don't think Hauck is the end-all-be-all of coaches, but comparing Sac State to Montana after coaching changes is not apples to apples at all, and that's without factoring in the injury situation we've dealt with this year.

Programs? Sure. Geography. Nope. Maybe dollars now with the new rules, but probably not in FCS. Tradition - kind of goes hand in hand with facilities and fan base. Schemes, playing style - fall under coaching in my opinion. Playing time and starting right away. Maybe, but that might be the wrong recruit.

Urban Meyer accomplished it only 4 times in his career, taking over under-performing programs and immediately making them winners. Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State. Or are these examples merely anecdotal?

Mel Tucker, Michigan State football coach. In second year, took a sub-500 program to a top 5 national ranking, and currently undefeated season. Another anecdotal example...............
