Win games against quality OOC teams. The bottom of the conference is terrible and pulls everyone else down.

So what "quality" OOC teams are we gonna play? Is Haslam wussing out or is it kinda hard to schedule Duke for a home and home? Curious what you'd do to fix the problem.

Beat UC Irvine.
Beat Ga Southern.
Maybe beat (or show better) against a down U of A team.
Beat PSU twice.
Don't get blown out by Creighton.

We do that, we're a 11-13 seed. The "quality" was on the schedule. But other than Ga State and SDSU/NDSU, we really didn't perform.

While winning those games would have helped I'm not sure any other than beating UA would have got the Griz an 11. In 2005-2006 Griz got blown out by a Boise State team that finished 7th in the WAC. Lost to Portland State (6th in the BSC) the second to last game of the season, and also had losses to ISU and WSU (7th and 8th) and didn't win the regular season. But they did beat Stanford, and got an 11 that year.
Good point but that was back then, the ranking system that the committee uses now is different than 15 years ago.

I think that might have been the same year they beat Colorado State as well. They got a 12 seed, not an 11. Beat Nevada in a 12/5 upset. Year prior in the tourney they played Washington really tough as a 15 seed despite not scoring the first four minutes of the game.

And while the reality is we drew a very tough opponent, we also made it to the big dance unlike any other Big Sky team. That's right, we represent the best our conference has to offer, and it's time, boy, it's time.. to REPRESENT!. I'm rooting for my Griz, and I've been watching them nearly all year, I believe they have what it takes to pull an upset, even against a foe such as Michigin. On paper not many people last year would ever have predicted UMBC taking out Virginia, but it happened! It's called March MADNESS for a reason, who knows maybe the Griz can tap into that Madness! Go GRIZ, we can play ball too! FTW (F**** the Wolverines)

History is all that is needed to see why the Griz were seeded where they belong

Year Seed Round Opponent Result
1975
Regional 3rd Place Game Utah State W 69–63
UCLA L 64–67
1991 #16 First Round #1 UNLV L 65–99
1992 #14 First Round #3 Florida State L 68–78
1997 #16 First Round #1 Kentucky L 54–92
2002 #15 First Round #2 Oregon L 62–81
2005 #16 First Round #1 Washington L 77–88
2006 #12 First Round #5 Nevada W 87–79
#4 Boston College L 56–69
2010 #14 First Round #3 New Mexico L 57–62
2012 #13 Second Round #4 Wisconsin L 49–73
2013 #13 Second Round #4 Syracuse L 34–81
2018 #14 First Round #3 Michigan L 47–61

Don't agree. One needs to look at the other low seeds and their track records in the ncaa's too, and compare them to the Griz seasons and track record.

Of course, low round seeds usually lose in the first round. Should that surprise anyone?

Seeding is a difficult process by any committee and is a process that considers many factors. In this instance the committee got it about right.

How do you propose they do that?

Oh wait. Rhetoric, cuz that's all you do.

Agree with most of what you said there. What I was really meaning is, what the hell does anyone do about the "quality" of the bottom half of the conference? We're trapped for now. It is what it is. Squaring away those winnable games you pointed out would certainly not hurt.

One factor for UM's 15th seed is the fact that its leading scorer and leading rebounder, and only post presence, is hurt and will not play. The committee looks at those things. Listen to what the selectors said about their consideration of injuries.

As I said, some of you post like you've never touched a basketball.

So, they need work on their post game. Lol

I’ve PLAYED the game before, but I’ve never SEEDED the game before. Where does that leave me in this conversation?

You are clearly not worthy to any longer post on such matters or topics related to the sport of basketball. Hear Hear!

You asked “what quality OOC teams are we gonna play?”

The reality is, they were already on the schedule. We just didn’t get it done when it counted. And then losing two to PSU put the nail in the coffin. If we beat PSU (as we should have) twice and win even 1 more of those OOC games I think we’re at least a 14, possibly a 13.

And then they proceeded to pound it inside to Andrew Strait and run circles around Fazekas and Nevada.

Yep, that was a fun one to watch.

We had Michael Spath, a talk radio host from Ann Arbor, on the show for the second year in a row to talk about the Montana-Michigan matchup
