E-MAIL I SENT TO COACH DELANEY

Just email Ty. I have emailed him in the past with questions and he has actually responded. I of course email with thoughtful questions and Ty responds with thoughtful answers and explanations.

Doubt that he'll read or even see it. His emails go to the football office secretary. Assume she screens his emails and will "file" this one appropriately.[/quote]

So it's filed right next to all your emails then.

Tim,
I appreciate your honesty and your signing the letter to Mick with your name. I would not be embarrassed at all if I were you. Good for you. The problem I have is that Kanangota did get beat one on one with the wide receiver, but the same thing happened to the bobcat corner yesterday. That Hill is just plain faster than everyone else. Nickel, dime, whatever. If you end up man on man with him, he is just going to beat you and Adams is going to get the ball to him. EWU has shown they are the class of the big sky.

I'll just leave this here...

The frustration for most who complain about the defense stems from the fact that once the Griz defense's primary scheme was exposed as rather vulnerable to the passing game, successive OC's have had a blueprint on how to attack that primary defense. We play the first half of the last 4 games on defense as if none of our opponent know this. Adjustments are made at half that seem to help. So the real question is why aren't these adjustments ready to go in the first quarter and why wait until the second half to adjust. I hope the answer is Delaney is the smartest coach we've had, knows he will get to the playoffs with this "set" game plan, and will unveil secret schemes and surprise elements in the playoffs. Here's looking forward to 70-14 wins in the playoffs.....

Don't care what other people do, but as for me, here are my thoughts....egrizzers are a bunch of gas bags. We get on here and talk and throw out opinions like they mean something. They do not. Sugar coaters and growler1's have no bearing on the performance or ability of the team. I would hope that Delaney would not give two rats asses about what any of us think.

What an idiot. I have seen some dumb things before, but this is the dumbest of all. I hope he gets the email and deletes it immediately. If you in your twisted mind think that the coaches don't cover every angle and very situation you are even more of an idiot. I don't know you, but I'm embarrassed for you. You are the only guy on the room, that doesn't get that you don't get it.

I emailed Bill Gates with some "suggestions" on how to improve the Windows operating system. Hope it works cause I know a lot about computers.

To Coach Delaney,

First off I wanted to congratulate you, your coaching staff, and the Griz football players on pulling off some dramatic clutch victories over the past month. Heck of a game. playoff hopes are still alive in Griz Nation. Good offensive play calling coaching staff, and execution. Hats off to JJ and Henderson on their established chemistry in the passing game. However, as a Missoula native with Griz Nation in my blood, I keep seeing a frustrating repeat of events week in and week out on the defensive side of the football. Let me explain.

I love Griz Nation, I have great faith in our football players, and team, but the defensive play calling can definitely frustrate a football spectator who observes more than the general gameplay (the detailed play formations/schemes). For example, last game against SD I don't recall ever seeing our defense in a nickel or dime package scheme, do we even have one in our playbook? So many times this year have I seen opposing offenses exploit our 4-3 defense by making one of our LB pick up a speedy/shifty WR. Our LB are good, don't get me wrong, but not that good to be able to cover any WR. If our defense played like we did today against a playoff caliber team, we would most likely be blown away. I don't believe the full blame should be put onto the players, but I I feel our defensive coaching staff is making some big mistakes with our players. Such as Jordan Tripp never seems to be in the right place at the right time on most defensive plays, and I know he's a better athlete on the field than what's showing on TV. He had a heck of a forced fumble yesterday, but also a lot of missed tackles, and some complete absences from where the ball was going to. I feel the Defensive coaching staff could figure out a better way to use Mr. Tripp, and possibly throw in some Dime and Nickel packages with 4 or 5 DB's to account for when an offense pulls out a 4 or 5 WR look. I would bet many avid Griz fans could agree with this notion.

Now, I have very little hands on football experience sir, I played maybe a couple weeks of Little Grizzly Football as a child. However, I have watched the sport of football passionately, and educationally since I was a small child to today, at my current age of 26. I might not understand the feeling of what it's like to play the game, but I pride myself in understanding the rules, play schemes, and probability of success with play calling match ups. It can sure be an interactive chess match out there sometimes between coaching staff's play calling.

Anyway, I hope this E-Mail reaches your desk, coach, and maybe even makes the slightest difference in the down stretch through the rest of the season, for if we do get a playoff bid. Thank you for your time and efforts, and Go Griz!

Sincerely,

Tim Jayko

There are a few discounted "clown suits" left over at retailers from this halloween season. Purchase one, put it on and read this email to yourself while looking in the mirror. However, you may not need a "clown suit"... :egriz:

There are so many directions a person could go with this thread…

As a coach, I rarely expect half of my parents to have half of the football knowledge that I have accumulated over my short coaching career let alone someone like Gregorak or Delaney. The point is that most coaches expect parents, fans, and boosters to inquire or even posit theories about the game, how players are coached, while having little experiential game knowledge.

I don't think it makes a difference, coaches with a shred of decency probably find a polite way to respond to the concerns without making you feel like an idiot.

That being said there is an entitlement from those same groups in regards to their level of access or perceived ability to voice their displeasure without a semblance of clue as to what is going on. Not saying fans cannot send messages like this, but there is a very fine line of which not to cross.

I get that people are frustrated with Gregorak's defense, but trust me when I say this, there is a lot more nuance than a 'missed tackle' here or 'soft coverage' to indicating the defense has problems and there is so much more short term and long term issues as to fixing some of the 'problems' the defense has.

The Griz did play in the nickel several times yesterday...#18 came in several times on third down. They have played the dime some--I don't recall. So Tim, you are incorrect in saying they didn't play any nickel (5 defensive backs) yesterday. The problem was that SD was gaining good yards rushing the ball yesterday. A better argument is that in the Griz/EWU when EWU had no running game, they should have played in the nickel/dime about every down (especially 2nd through 3 downs)...invite them to run.

I don't know what all the fuss is about blaming the coaches.

You can't teach speed.

You can't break down on a tackle if you're not in the space in time to do it.

EWU had three or four Ellis Hendersons split out. We have our Ellis Henderson.

Tim, don't let this lot of peckerwoods (thats ePeckerwoods to everyone else) get to ya. Weather those here agree with you or not, you felt strongly about something and actually did something beyond the usual posting of an eFart . Good for you!

At one time, wasn't it a long standing tradition for the sitting US President to call the HC of the two Super Bowl contenders during Half Time to offer play suggestions? He probably knows
more about football than Richard Nixon.

Great post! Talent trumps everything!

for all the constructive feedback left I thank you, for the negative trolling posts with no constructive feedback, just plain out insults.., all I can say is oh well, 'tis the consequence of Internet forums =p. I figured we ought to have played at least a few nickel and dime packages throughout the game, so good to know we apparently did. I was watching it at a bar and talking with a patron there so I missed some of the defensive plays. I still think we play 4-3 too often on passing downs. Thanks for suggesting I contact Ty Gregorak instead, might email him and just see if I get a response. Cheers to you all, and GO GRIZ!

I think the most surprising part of this thread is that Tim assumed that Delaney has a computer in his office and uses it for something other than Solitaire between getting a brisk walk in and practice.

Make sure you mention that in your e-mail - instant credibility! (I kid, I kid!)
