Griz Soccer 2026

Sorry to interrupt the contract debate, but gotta wonder who is the mod on this group. I posted this message last night but got a message it “was awaiting mod approval “? Maybe bc I am new-ish member or I bc included a link to article (which I now removed). Just curious to see if it is flagged again, as it is relatively mild compared to other AD criticism?

Well said. As an out of state fan, I rely on podcasts to hear the latest on Griz sports.

Someone on this soccer thread mentioned it already, but then I heard with my own ears from Haslam that soccer operations & hires are “Jean’s area” (or fault)? *link removed*

To have an AD (Haslam) not aware/invested in the top women’s athletic programs shows poor leadership and/or a backwards attitude toward Title IX

Maybe if soccer beat up on the Bobcats every year they would earn his attention (oh, yeah- MSU doesn’t field a D1 women’s team)

I'm not meaning to come off looking like an asshole or anything, but it this really that big of a deal? It's not like we're cutting scholarships or eliminating sports in their totality. There's plenty of coaches in the Athletic Department (including Football) that have to share offices. Is it ideal? Probably not but it's not the end of the world. Plus let's not act like there aren't currently plans to do a massive South Campus renovation for new locker rooms and additional space that they could likely use as offices. The sooner we raise that money then the sooner they can get shovels in the dirt and these little minute complaints go away.

There's a lot of reasons one could call for a change at AD (and most of those are fair criticism) but I personally don't think this is that big of an issue.
Its just the optics and a consistent trend with th

Rumor is MSU is looking to add a soccer team.

It makes the most sense for MSU to add Soccer if they want to move up to FBS. Really surprised they don't have it already. Would be well received in Bozeman, which loves soccer.
That was rumored a few years back. Title IX required them to add another women's sport and they were considering Soccer or Softball before they ultimately decided to bring the Rodeo program under the Athletics umbrella. Now I don't believe they're looking to add any other sports at this time.

It would be good for MUS to add soccer, add some more competition to the rivalry.

If you don't like the way Haslam interacts with the public, you gott be very upset with Jean Gee who is like a ghost.
I saw someone posted a screenshot of an email from her on some sort of appeal that she was denying with no explanation as to why or personalization to their situation and everyone immediately knew who in the AD it came from.

What are the weather conditions in Bozeman in October? I’m guessing not always ideal for soccer.
Probably similar to Missoula or maybe even Cheney.

Speaking of new teams, with Sac leaving and bsc gaining Utah Tech and SUU, that puts conference at 10 soccer teams, so even # for pairing for Thurs-Sun game schedule for traveling.

Will travel partners be:
UTT---SUU
WSU---ISU
UM---UI
EWU---PSU
NAU---NCU?

or is there better pairings for the NCU and PSU outliers?

While adding MSU would give a natural travel partner for UM while solidifying the logical EWU-UI travel pairing, it would probably be a mess after that with the odd # of teams (...could maybe rotate the outliers as the lone wolf each year).

In looking at the schedules for Weber State and Utah Tech, the Griz will be be travel partners with PSU, and the final regular conference game on those schedules is vs each team's travel partner.

With the 5-in-5 going to go through, portal will be full of talent after the fall. A lot of good 2027s are already having their verbal commitments revoked.

X is where all the Griz fans
X is is still heavily used by coaches so it’s important that recruits still use it.
From my heart, Go Griz. My daughter (2028 class) verbally committed to a P4 program on 6/19. I had held hopes that she would give the Griz a serious look - but the status quo mindset above is a significant reason she didn’t.
No one seems interested in moving the needle in Missoula - the facilities, funding, and focus on soccer are subpar, no matter how many championships they win. TBH I see now why Citowicki left.
Know this won’t be a popular post—but feel it is a necessary reality check.
Sorry to say this about a school I love. 🫡

Dear NorCalGrizzly,

Do you remember when you were in high school sitting in the cafeteria with your girlfriends, and a few boys would walk in - and each of the girls thought a different boy was the best looking? That is how college coaches see prospective student-athletes - and how the same young players see possible colleges to attend.

Trust that your daughter committed to her first-choice school and gave Mom a reasonable excuse for not selecting Mom's favorite school.

Look at the number of girls who have recently committed to UM - and know there were hundreds more who wanted to play in Missoula but did not measure up talent-wise. Those girls looked past the negatives of the current locker room with hope of positive changes while they are competing for the Griz. The players wanted to come to UM even though the social media communications did not meet everyone's expectations. Progress is a direction and is moving positively for Griz soccer.

I'm sure everyone on this board wishes for your daughter to have a great college experience - both in the classroom and on the pitch. Good cheer to both of you!

THIS kindness & support is an intangible Montana can offer athletes. Classy responses and I appreciate it.

Recruiting is a fraught experience- especially these days. Fortunately my daughter was a “match” with her first-choice dream school- so ol’ Dad & his preference didn’t stand a chance 😆

Will be rooting for the Griz, always!
