For example, last game against SD I don't recall ever seeing our defense in a nickel or dime package scheme, do we even have one in our playbook?

There are a few discounted "clown suits" left over at retailers from this halloween season. Purchase one, put it on and read this email to yourself while looking in the mirror. However, you may not need a "clown suit"... :egriz:timjayko said:To Coach Delaney,
First off I wanted to congratulate you, your coaching staff, and the Griz football players on pulling off some dramatic clutch victories over the past month. Heck of a game. playoff hopes are still alive in Griz Nation. Good offensive play calling coaching staff, and execution. Hats off to JJ and Henderson on their established chemistry in the passing game. However, as a Missoula native with Griz Nation in my blood, I keep seeing a frustrating repeat of events week in and week out on the defensive side of the football. Let me explain.
I love Griz Nation, I have great faith in our football players, and team, but the defensive play calling can definitely frustrate a football spectator who observes more than the general gameplay (the detailed play formations/schemes). For example, last game against SD I don't recall ever seeing our defense in a nickel or dime package scheme, do we even have one in our playbook? So many times this year have I seen opposing offenses exploit our 4-3 defense by making one of our LB pick up a speedy/shifty WR. Our LB are good, don't get me wrong, but not that good to be able to cover any WR. If our defense played like we did today against a playoff caliber team, we would most likely be blown away. I don't believe the full blame should be put onto the players, but I I feel our defensive coaching staff is making some big mistakes with our players. Such as Jordan Tripp never seems to be in the right place at the right time on most defensive plays, and I know he's a better athlete on the field than what's showing on TV. He had a heck of a forced fumble yesterday, but also a lot of missed tackles, and some complete absences from where the ball was going to. I feel the Defensive coaching staff could figure out a better way to use Mr. Tripp, and possibly throw in some Dime and Nickel packages with 4 or 5 DB's to account for when an offense pulls out a 4 or 5 WR look. I would bet many avid Griz fans could agree with this notion.
Now, I have very little hands on football experience sir, I played maybe a couple weeks of Little Grizzly Football as a child. However, I have watched the sport of football passionately, and educationally since I was a small child to today, at my current age of 26. I might not understand the feeling of what it's like to play the game, but I pride myself in understanding the rules, play schemes, and probability of success with play calling match ups. It can sure be an interactive chess match out there sometimes between coaching staff's play calling.
Anyway, I hope this E-Mail reaches your desk, coach, and maybe even makes the slightest difference in the down stretch through the rest of the season, for if we do get a playoff bid. Thank you for your time and efforts, and Go Griz!
Sincerely,
Tim Jayko

You can't teach speed.
You can't break down on a tackle if you're not in the space in time to do it.
EWU had three or four Ellis Hendersons split out. We have our Ellis Henderson.
