After the MSU crack murdering athletes a couple years ago with a side of testicles down the throat MSU still has issues. They are not perfect or even near it due to supposed superior discipline.

all of those guys had already been kicked off the teams at msu, so i don't think you can hang that on them. we've had much more trouble over the past five years than msu and i firmly believe that it is due to the soft punishments given out by our administrators.

MSU brought the murderers to Bozeman as athletes and they share some of that culpability. .

Hey Tokyo and Everett, what's worse recruiting punk kids who get kicked off the team then committ a murder......Or recruiting a punk kid who committs a murder while on the team, gets sent to jail then get's to finish out his career at your beloved university?

BOTTOM LINE: Bobcat athletes drunk in a bar late at night, fighting. Beat one team player damn near to death.....? Players giving one another fake IDs.....? So under age kids (players) could sneak into a bar and drink booze....?

Other players (team members) of the mighty bobcat teams stood around while one buddy (member) got the hell kicked out of him and damn near died.....! Flat amazing that bobcat fans are bragging how great the punishment was. They then compare this with Griz punishment? What does the Griz problems have to do with the "fight" in Bozeman?

Cat fans, man up! Your guys made a big bad no no. State it, suck up and move on!

What?!!
Are you gonna man up when all the rape comes out, or are you gonna sit behind your computer and let the legal system run it's course, which is par for the course when it comes to most of you guys.

this has been an incredible read this evening. thanks guys. very impressive by all who took part.

Agreed. The hatred for each others schools is so great that most of the people writing can't even write a coherent thought. It's entertaining to read UM fans bashing
MSU and vice versa when both schools have had their share of black eyes.

BTW, the reduced charge had nothing to do with any technicalities, lack of evidence or lawyer tricks. It is very common to plead down misdemeanors because the county and city simply don't have the time to deal with the number of misdemeanors. It is literally impossible to try all of these cases so in almost every instance (except, generally DUI's) a plea to a lesser offense is offered. There was nothing different in the Taser case. They reduced the misdemeanor assault on a police officer to disorderly conduct. That certainly isn't the first time that has happened and it won't be the last.

This was simply treated routine. Unfortunately for the University, it also treated it routine with the same tired line of "we will let the legal system run its course" instead of "we conducted our own investigation and we had two players that put themselves and our program in a bad light. They have been charged with misdemeanor offenses. After conducting an initial investigation, both players have been suspended from one game and will recieve interenal discipline. If any additional facts come to light that warrant a change in that action or a more serious punishment, the University will address it at the apporpriate time." That would have been the proper way to handle it. If the University had done that, there wouldn't still be discussions about it four months after the fact.

What you say above is absolutely not true. It is not true that it is "routine" to reduce 3 misdemeanors to 1 very minor misdemeanor. Your statement are total BS. The dropping of the 3 charges had everything to do with lack of evidence, combined with police misconduct. Apparently, the main tasering officer was also be criticized and investigated for tasering someone else improperly, and this became known to the defense lawyer. You are such a liar. There was never a charge of "misdemeanor assault of a police officer". Get out of here with your lies and total BS. You are a total loser.

This argument is pretty stupid. What's funny is, as far as I can tell, most egrizzers applauded MSU for quickly handling this, and it looks like Cat posters just HAVE to say "Our discipline is better than yours." Which simply isn't true, but If you all and Growler need to have that in order to sleep more soundly at night then by all means, you win. THEY DISCIPLINE PLAYERS FASTER AT MSU THAN THEY DO AT MONTANA!

It's hilarious though that ANYBODY is dragging Jimmy Wilson into this. There was nothing wrong with Montana recruiting him out of high school, and when he was involved in the shooting, the university did absolutely NOTHING WRONG in how they dealt with it. And there was nothing wrong with bringing him back to UM once it was all behind him. His story is one A LOT of douche bags could learn some valuable lessons on faith and perserverance from, and to drag him into this discussion is just plain racist and stupid by MooU and I'm sure most rational Bobcat posters would agree with that.

Why the f*ck are you bringing me into this conversation Baby?? I've said all along I AGREE with how msu handled this. I've also said I agree with the way UM handled their situations. In other words, I'm one of the few posters who actually does not ALWAYS post whatever is in their team's best interest. (impossible for some, I know!!)

As for your ridiculous example, perhaps you'd be better in a country like Italy, where they have a markedly different system of legal justice. I prefer America's, however.

Player rep, you haven't a clue. And yes, the first statement by UM following the taser incident was that University would "let the legal system run its course." Its documented so pull your head out and go read it. The suspension, for a quarter, which in and of itself was a joke, was not officially reported. It simply became public knowledge. Plu did nothing to demonstrate leadership. He followed the same ole party line. You might notice that Fields actually did his own investigation, the University made a decision and then acknowledge that if facts came to light that mitigate the situation they may change the punishement. Unlike UM that buried its head, handed down a joke for discpline while all the while knowing the facts that even a first year law student would know were sufficient to lead to a conviction. And low and behold, a week after the season they plead to disorderly conduct. What a shock. I guess it would be shock to anyone that is as clueless as you. Go back and read my posts, I told you day one that was what would happen. Gee, wonder how I knew that. Maybe because I am not a moron like you.

UM did not wait for the legal system to run its course. UM followed interviewed people, looked at video and listened to audio, talked to the police, presumably talked to the defense lawyer, etc. in the days following the incident. It became clear almost immediately that what police spokesman had said the newspaper was not accurate. UM took action, including the suspension, on the following Thursday or Friday. Even a first year lawyer could look at the evidence being reported in the newspaper and on the internet in the first several days and see that the charges would be dropped. If you want us to read anything, go find it, quote it and link it. You are a total moron. You are also a liar. And you are lazy and sloppy.

This is the most odd pissing match.........ever.

Can we please put the Trumaine and his "curb stomping" to rest?? I am pretty sure if he "curb stomped" (please watch "American History X")the guy, he would probably have a convicted manslaughter charge, and he would be residing at MSP.........Lets just say........He kicked him in the face? :thumb:

Nope. Look at this thread. The person who the Kaimin quoted on the prior Johnson/Swink incident apparently has said that Johnson threw one punch, and didn't kick anyone.

Ha-ha. Really funny joke. What I think is funny is when posters say something stupid, get called on it, and then later say it was a joke. Jeez, I just stated the facts. I didn't attack you. You need to lighten up.

In much the same vein as Maynard's post above about lightening up on calling the initial Tru incident a "curb stomping" (if it had been, I don't see any way he would have ever played a down at UM again) this is about the dumbest isht I've ever read...even coming from you.

A broken nose and a separated shoulder. Treated and released, not even admitted to the hospital as an inpatient. Those are the facts. "Damn near died", you say? He got knocked out...that's it. While I take no joy in it and wish him a speedy recovery, all indications are that Blount went looking for trouble...found it...and got put to sleep. The same thing happens in a bar (none in particular...just bars in general) in Missoula - and Bozeman...and Helena...and Butte...and Billings...and Two Dot - night after night. And it's been happening for years.

Two guys fought, one got his ass kicked. That about sums it up. Did it go too far? Probably. But, let's lighten up on the drama, Francis. Or do you really believe that the entire MSU football team was standing around the combatants like an old-school WWF lumberjack match so their boy could beat Blount within an inch of his life? I think that Big John Studd has some eligibility left...maybe we can get him to sign with the Cats.

My rambling monologue to the dingbat aside, it really does sound like, at the end of the day, both institutions have been handling their internal problems pretty appropriately lately. Now, if these young men who have been given an opportunity that so many never receive would appreciate that and start conducting themselves as representatives of their respective universities (which they are), we could all sleep easier about the programs we support.

To be fair, PR, I really don't see that much of a difference. I've seen a helluva lot of damage done, more than I care to think about, with one punch. One punch is enough. I'm not a lawyer, I'll leave that to you...but assault is assault. One punch, unless in self defense, technically constitutes a crime, does it not?
