This punishment was easy to decide. Trammel was coming off acl surgery so who knows if he is even gonna be able to play much. He has been known as a fighter and has caused problems before. So its easy to make an example of him and kick him off the team. Minter got handled internally. Which if everything is true should be the appropriate punishment. Wilson got suspended a week from the track season. Will he miss one meet or what? It is hard to compare this incident to the incidents of the Griz. This incident the facts seem pretty clear. Trammel admitted to it. There were witnesses that saw him do it. Latest Griz example (Tru and Kemp) the facts were not clear at all. There were witnesses backing up the players story. And in the end the story was mostly correct. So they got disorderly conduct and got suspended ALMOST a week. Wilson got disorderly conduct and was suspended a week. Matching punishments.

I do believe Ash handled this incident appropriately and this will set a good example for the rest of the athletes at MSU.

I agree with this. The only thing I'd add is that Wilson is suspended this upcoming weekend for sure, but his case is still being reviewed, so it's still a possibility he could face further punishment.

Same with Xavier Blount. His situation will be evaluated after the season and could face additional punishment.
Whether or not Blount's injuries ended his season, IF indeed he was the one who sought out Trammel why in the world would Fields not boot him as well?

I think there is no question that MSU / Coach Ash acted swiftly and appropriately to the situation. It certainly conveys a message to the STUDENT-athletes at MSU that nonsense will met with punishment.

I can't imagine trying to compare incidents and reactions by each school. Don't know how you can or the value in doing so?

To me, the only thing I think of is: How do I feel about how the incident was handled and how it may hurt/help the integrity of the program? For MSU, you have to feel good about it today.

What the F*CK are you blabbering about IQ25.06. As far as I know, you, getgrizzy, and about 3 or 4 of your senseless cat buds are the only ones who DON'T believe those two are equal in severity. you're off your rocker dude. i'd say, so far, that 2506 and i don't believe they are equal and you believe they are. i don't see anyone else (edit: bdizzle is on our side) weighing in, so quit making stuff up. the crimes weren't the same (i.d. vs. pushing police), how the school handled it wasn't the same (walking the criminals to the lawyer office vs. sacking them within three days), and the punishment wasn't the same (suspended from play for an entire track meet vs. one quarter of a game). where do you come up with this stuff??!!!
Yeah but here is the thing, Gerald Kemp NEVER pushed or shoved a police officer. That was one of the many lies and inconsistencies provided in the officer's police report. There is a reason that Obstructing a Peace Officer charges were immediately dropped.

Neither of them were charged with assaulting a police officer like lots of Cat fans still choose to believe. You guys are complete IDIOTS if you think what Gerald Kemp and Trumaine Johnson did is worse than Tramell beating up your best basketball player senseless.

That very well could happen. I think the report indicated that Fields hasn't been able to talk directly to Blount. I think Fields his reserving the right to levvy further punishment on Wilson/Blount at a later date once obtains all of the details.

2506, man oh man what a concept to hang your hat on..."we can't beat you on the field but by God we out-disciplined ya" wow...just...wow..

WHO, the hell is Kennedy??? j/k...my point is, this isn't really noteworthy on Egriz. I'm a little surprised at Trammel being dismissed though I haven't seen anything official from MSU that says he is. Minter didn't deserve anything more than he's getting which is probably some serious, gut wrenching conditioning which for him will probably be a nightmare considering his size. This one's put to rest, let's move on, just like the peanut gallery needs to get over the fact that ALL Tru and Kemp did and were charged with was playing their music too loud!!!!! No assault, misdemeanor's for violence of any kind, not felonies of any kind or otherwise. They played their music too loud and mouthed off to police and were punished by both the law and Pflu accordingly and anyone who tries to make it as more, just like anyone trying to make Minter's loaning of an ID as more is a MORON of epic proportions.

So tru wasn't involved in the curb stomping that bobby paid off the dad?
they were charged with misdemeanor assault and plead down to a lessor charge of disorderly. If they had received the same as the MSU players they would have gotten at least 1 week suspension and not had their hand held on the way to the lawyers.

Johnson was never charged with anything relating to the fight at the fraternity. In fact, except for a Kaimin article over 6 months later, in which a drunk from the party was quoted, there was no evidence that Johnson had done anything particularly bad. The kid's dad wasn't bought off, so stop telling lies. The kid's dad is the one who called Hauck to bring the matter to his attention. The two players got internal punishment that lasted 6 months, and were suspended for a game. Seems more than appropriate to me. The taser incident had very conflicting accounts of what occurred. I assume the athletic dept was told the charges would be dropped, or reduced to something very minor (like they were). The players were suspended for a quarter. The university then intended to look at the matter again, when the matter was resolved and the facts were better known. Are you against ascertaining basic facts, especially when there are conflicting accounts, before making decisions?

trammel = repeat offender charged with misdemeanor assault = dismissed form team

tru = repeat offender charged with misdemeanor assault = 1 quarter suspension and had his hand held while Foley took him to a lawyer

So you're equating equally the actions of a guy who curb stomps another guy into unconsciousness with the actions of a guy who "placed his hand on a police officer".

Got it.

What if Wilson got in a car wreck killed himself or someone else, using minters drivers license to get drunk . Could be some serious issues giving someone your DL for drinking !

Pushing police was initially alleged, but there were accounts that they disagreed with the allegation. The eventual minor charge pled to had no element of pushing the police. You are the one who needs to stick to the facts? It appeared to me that what the police said occurred initially turned out not to be true. Thus, all of the initial charges were dropped. UM figured this out fairly quickly, and acted appropriately, in my view. Why do you think all of the initial 3 charges were dropped? Police/prosecutors don't just drop all charges, because an attorney asks them to do that.

If people were saying that Trammel was only defending himself, or others were involved, or he didn't do it, then MSU wouldn't have acted yet--and certainly wouldn't have booted him.

Did that actually happen? Wow!

Oh I see, we are playing what-if scenarios because the current arguments aren't stretched far enough out there as it is. Time to punch out for a bit with this sort of stuff happening...

These sorts of decisions are best left to the people who: (a) know the facts, and (b) have the responsibility for making the call. There are lots of options for dealing with this stuff, and many of those options are correct. It’s not a “right or wrong” thing. I respect the people who have to make the decision. I have no respect for the dumbasses who anonymously second-guess them on message boards, LOL.

If Minter's only involvement is (as reported) use of his license, then whether he was a Griz, Cat, or LSU Tiger I would agree with internal discipline only. Why would anyone want to punish him anymore than that. We are not talking about someone that was involved in a fight and he didn't disobey an officer of the law. And for the record, if you go back and read my posts, you may learn that I was not critcal of the fact that a couple of Griz players got into trouble for having a loud party. That is what many college kids do. The issue I had then, still have now, is the Chicken Sh*t way in which Plu handled it hiding behind "the legal system" when we all knew (as evidenced by my post the very first day it was reported) that they were going to plead out to disorderly conduct after the season. To say the legal system was needed to determine whether these two players did something wrong is total BS. The facts were well known that they did not act in an appropropriate manner and should be disciplined. Not knowing what the two players history was (assuming this was the first problem) then a one game suspension handed down immediately would have been appropriate and sent a good message.

One of the things many of the Griz fans fail to understand is the benefit this would have had for the players. The Griz currently have a player facing very serious criminal charges. He was allowed to skate on several incidences prior to the one that has put him into serious legal jeopardy. Did it every occur to the Griz fans that if the HC had stood up and taken disciplinary action on these prior occassions, this kid may not be where he is today. A HC hiding behind the legal system and putting wins ahead of discipine is not doing these kids any favors and in the end may be enabling them to make more serious mistakes that will have a permanent impact on their lives.

Nope, you are wrong. UM took immediate action in the taser incident, suspending the players for a quarter in the next game (an important one against Weber, I believe). The university also indicated that it would look at the situation after the matter was resolved and the facts were better known. The facts were not known in the taser case, as there were multiple witnesses who said the police account was not accurate and that the police had been at fault. Note that all 3 initial charges were dropped. It appears that the charges were dropped because the prosecutor eventually came to understand the the charges could not be proven and the police had in fact been in large part at fault for the incident. If Trammel's charge or charges were dropped, would you favor booting him?

It is not hiding behind the legal process to wait for the basic facts to become known. That's just basic common sense and due process.

What incidents was Donaldson allowed to skate on? Did they occur before Sept. 2010, when the alleged sexual assault occurred? I'm going to enjoy your inability or unwilliness to answer those two questions.

Are you serious...............what if he got drunk using his license...... Who didn't try to drink underage when they were in college. Not only is it common, I personally believe it should be expected when you are in college. Now, if you chose to drink when you are underage (or anytime) and then decide to drive while drunk, then you deserve the consequences. But to hold someone else responsible because you used their ID is BS. I personally had to physically extract my friends license from a bouncer at the Cat's Paw one night when I was too drunk to remember "my birthday." If I had been arrested I would have only blamed myself for being stupid, I sure wouldn't have wanted him charged for letting me be a dumba$$.......

Plus he is not someone to make up a story like this, I can vouch for him. Kid was still concious until Andrew Swink punted him in the face and repeatedly was kicking this kid in the face until others made him stop, breaking the kids jaw in two different places.

Makes me angry when Cat fans say that Tru curbed stomped someone when in reality it was Swink. Tru still got in this fight but there is no way is name should be drug through the mud as much as it has been.

And thinking this kid's Dad payed off Bobby is laughable. That is straight outta 2506's ass

No kidding. Your post and last para are right on. They are total idiots. They just can't stick to the facts, and are too biased to say anything that even makes sense.

I have the ability to answer your questions, but won't. The post speaks for itself, I don't believe the Griz HC using the standard BS line of letting the legal system run its course is doing any of the kids on the Griz team any favors. Suspending a player does not rely on a finding of guilt, it should be based on the HC conducting their own investigation and handing down appropriate punishment. The facts involving the Griz players were well known whether they were criminal or not (how else did I know they both would be pleading out to misdemeanor disorderly conduct immediately after the season). Yet instead of handing down an appropriate punishment of publically calling these players out for their conduct and imposing a one game suspension (assuming this was either players first offense, if they had others... which I don't know about then some other punishment may have been appropriate), Plu took the standard UM BS line which reflects poorly on the University and certainly did no favors for the kids involved.

The Kaimin's reporting was terrible on the incident. Numerous incorrect statements and insinuations.

WTF are you talking about? Pflugrad suspended Trumaine and Gerald before "The legal system ran it's course" . What are you talking about? Plus, I don't think Pflugrad was ever even quoted on this issue other than saying we are handling it internally. He did do his own investigation and dealt out the appropriate punishment. Quit making things up.

I think Blount will get his ass kicked off the team too. He went lookin for Trammel. First mistake the brother made. Second, thinking he could take Trammel. Third, ever thinking Trammel would stop beating his ass, until he had kicked the living dog shit out of him. When your girlfriend cheats on you, fire the bitch. Don't go lookin for a 220 pound LB who's been drinkin and loves to fight. "I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one." Now Blount has 101. A fucked up face and most likey, no more scolli. Plus, because of his lack of being able to control his girlfriend, we loss our starting outside linebacker. Blount can leave town too. Sorry punk ass bitch.....
