Are we prepared for no football this fall?

Valid concerns. I think to some degree some FCS schools may be better setup to weather this than we think, and perhaps even moreso than the lower-end FBS schools. WSU, for example, runs a razor-thin budget every year, and the loss of sports for any period of time may in fact impact them more severely, where the revenue lost is rapidly in the tens of millions and they have millions upon millions in salaries and building debt to contend with.

The UM budget is thinner than a razor.

Fair enough no doubt. Our enrollment issues have been worrying enough; this will certainly hit hard. All I was trying to say was that there could be a difference for those athletic depts where they are reliant on tens of millions in TV revenue, and who are financing many millions in debt and paying millions in salaries on the assumption they could count on those tens of millions from TV/ tickets/ etc to continue.

Dr. Fauci's comments about reopening sports lead me to think we won't see football this fall:

He talks about a level of testing that seems unlikely in a few months.

"Anthony Fauci: Sports might not happen this year

Major League Baseball may be plotting a return, but Dr. Anthony Fauci has some bad news for everyone hoping for team sports to return. Fauci, the infectious disease expert who’s a part of the White House’s coronavirus task force, says that without widespread testing and quick results, sports may be sidelined for the duration of 2020. “Safety, for the players and for the fans, trumps everything,” Fauci told the New York Times. “If you can’t guarantee safety, then unfortunately you’re going to have to bite the bullet and say, ‘We may have to go without this sport for this season.’”

Fauci, the 79-year-old head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said earlier this month “there’s a way” for sports to come back if they don’t have fans and quarantine teams in hotels between games.

The Post’s Joel Sherman reported Tuesday that MLB is growing more hopeful it can play games this season, with the current plan targeting games starting in early July.

“I would love to be able to have all sports back,” Fauci told the Times. “But as a health official and a physician and a scientist, I have to say, right now, when you look at the country, we’re not ready for that yet.”

Don't trust Fauci. He doesn't make the decisions. He just gives bad advice. He has been wrong on every front. If he had it his way, nothing would ever open.....ever.

I like Fauci. He has grown in the role, from medical/pandemic advisor to someone who better understands the big picture, in my view. Of the major players, I can't think of any who have been right more often than Fauci. Of course, no one has been right all the time. I like that he was captain of his high school basketball team. I bet he was feisty and smart.

How did we find ourselves in a world in which politicians (from either party) and blabbering idiot talking heads on television (on any channel) are believed more so than extremely well regarded subject experts and professionals who have spent their lives studying a particular issue?

You can throw social media in there too.

I said on the first page, we will have a football season. And it will be glorious.

Once you said "Fauci has been wrong on every front" your opinion on this subject instantly lost any modicum of credibility. Fortunately for the rest of us, people like Fauci rely on data instead of uninformed opinions.

okay, fine. Most then.

But he hasn't been, Yukon.

Facts, truth and accuracy still matter, even if they don't on whatever channel you may watch.

What has Fauci been correct on? Why doesn't South Dakota have thousands of people dead since they didn't go in to lockdown? Why aren't thousands of essential workers, such as myself, dying all over the place since it is so infectious and dangerous?

These are real questions I would like answers to if you have them. Fauci does not have those answers, because he was wrong in his assessment of how lethal this virus is.

Thank God Fauci doesn't run the country. His group said social distancing measures should be in place until 2022 and that handshakes and hugs should be eliminated permanently from our society.
