I guarantee I am not an expert, but there is some truth to what Growler is saying. Letters do go out in bunches...I am sure most, if not all, Montana kids named All-State got letters from numerous schools. I guarantee every Montana High School wrestler who won a state championship got letters. It doesn't mean they are being "recruited." There is a big difference between being recruited and getting letters.
But, I am interested in what VIM has to say because I admit - I do not know how it works.
Really both of you are right. those two MT kids going to pac 12 schools is no different then when we all sit on this board and hope one of our "starred" players doesn't get an offer from a big school. I'm sure they were "receiving interest" from big schools throughout the process as well, eventually deciding where to go. "Back in the day", being an all state player, I got letters from a lot of schools, all over the west at every level. Some were feeler letters and others "recruiting" type letters. things are obviously different now, but there is still a ring of truth to the mass letters being sent. I don't know anything, so just my 2 cents.
By the way, to clear this up I never denied there weren't a mass amount of letters being sent to top prospects. But when a kid gets a relationship going with a college coach from an FBS school, that to me is "legitimate interest" and not just a letter saying "we are interested." If you don't understand that difference, I can't help you.
Whoa now little guy...I know the difference more than you know. Don't include me in your little spat. I never brag about who/how/why I know things on this board because of the B.S. that comes from it. Yes, I know some of the coaches, and have for a long time. We have mutual friends, we have hung out, even before coming to the Griz. Yes I've been recruited, played football in college, know and understand the game, coached a little, work in sports medicine currently so deal with high level athletes regularly, and love the Griz. So, yes I understand the differences, and there is no need to get help for that. I generally enjoy your posting on here as you are informed and give good information. I was just trying to smooth out the waters a bit to help this not turn into a disaster as has been the norm lately.
