Vim where is your list?

I'm working on it. :thumb:

Vim, how would you describe the 2018 class of MT players compared to this last year? The 2017 class seemed super deep with close to 20 guys going D-1. Would you expect similar depth this coming year or is it more top-heavy?

Will be deep with interior offensive and defensive lineman (where it has been pretty bare the last couple of years). Not as many QB/ATH's who can play multiple positions like there was in 2017's class. Last year's Safety class was the best it has been in years but that will be the opposite in 2018. Should be a good WR class in 2018. A good crop of running backs but only a few have FCS talent in my opinion. Not as many linebackers in this class with FCS talent as there were in 2017 though there are a two-three kids that stand out at the top. Seriously, 2017 was loaded with linebackers. QB list is once again low but Kevin Boes from Great Falls High may surprise some people.

Besides Sulser who everyone will want. There is definitely more local lineman next year. UM should have no excuse not to get a couple of them. Capital has three of them. Loyola and Deer Lodge have lineman prospects worthy of a look.

I am interested to see if UM coaches can get a recruit out of Glacier this year with Morris and Turner being the top gets. MSU has owned that pipeline last couple years.

And Hatfield is really good too. Great frame to add weight. He's Class B and his tape is short so not a ton to go off with him. Class is deep on interior OL/DL and WR's. And Mark Estes is a great talent as well.

So now that this is out, I will finish the Shrine Game Breakdowns that I have promised all of you. But one quick thing, I don't see Braydon Deming listed at WR, DE, or LB. Might just be a mistake but if not, it is a huge oversight by Chris Murdock. I see Bryson listed as an alternate which I expected but no Braydon on this roster is just nonsense.

Could he have chosen not to play? Would be strange though with his twin being an alternate. Some kids do bypass these games if they are already squared away with a college team.

Likely its because he chose not to play. Kids do indeed do that every year.

In 2016, Andrew Grinde, Chase Benson, Balue Chapman, and Jed Nagler all declined to play in the Badlands Bowl and Shrine Game. Grinde, Benson, and Chapman were already working out with their college teams and Nagler was healing up from offseason surgery. My top 4 prospects that year. Still crazy that Grinde will likely never play football again because he lost love for the game. I still compare running back recruits to his junior year tape as a standard because he did so many things will other than just bulling people over.

Speaking of Grinde, any info on what he has planned for next year?

I've heard the following (ranked from most believable to least believable):

- back to Yale for football/school
- continue to work in Bozeman as a Legal Assistant at Beck, Amsden & Stalpes, PLLC while taking online real estate courses
- he is going back to Yale just for school
- possibly enroll at Montana State as a student
- return to Great Falls

This article, that has already been posted in this thread, gives a pretty good look into what went into Andrew Grinde walking away from football:

I noticed this today and I was wondering why Rocky never announced Casey signing with the football team. He accepted a Division 1 scholarship from the Griz to throw javelin.

However, heading into the 2016 season last fall, I had Casey as my #8 rated football player in the state. He broke his ankle against Sidney early in the year and missed the remainder of his senior season. However, he came back and was a centerpiece on Laurel's basketball team. Casey is a fantastic athlete who won't beat you with speed but he is will beat you more times than not one-on-one. As a football player, he was always one of the best players on the field every game he played in high school. Played QB, WR, RB, LB, CB, and S during his career so he fit that mold of athlete that was prevalent in the 2017 Montana class. Troy Andersen, Tadan Gilman, Peyton Hanser, Michael McGinnis, Tanner Wilson, and Casey Cole were all in a similar group in 2017 in terms of player comparison. I don't know how well Casey has recovered in terms of gaining some speed back but it wouldn't surprise me if he walked on to the Griz football team and made some noise in a few years if he sticks with it.

Interesting ride indeed. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like he's been in touch with the football coaches
