No National Search?

I know what I would be thinking if this were happening at MSU, so I thought I'd pose the question here.

Is there any concern from you guys about recruiting with Haslam saying that this is a one year deal and then they'll re-evaluate? Seems to me like it's somewhat of a lameduck situation, but perhaps I'm mistaken. I also realize that Vigen could be leaving any year, but usually when a coach moves up there's an internal replacement, if Kennedy isn't retained, it would probably be an outside hire and I do think that's a different message recruiting wise. In short, if it were me, I'd be concerned about recruiting...players might not want to come if it's being viewed as the HC having little job security.
How is this not “interim”? One year contract and reevaluating after the season is the very definition of a lame duck, interim coach.

Why can’t we call it like it very obviously is? Kennedy is a temporary solution that is auditioning for the permanent gig.

The amount of cope on this board sometimes is honestly ridiculous.

Hardly semantics. An interim has no commitment and can be launched at any time. The HC contract commits to the position for the year and locks in a year's pay.
Full cope. Tell me more about all the head coaches coaches out there working on single year contracts…

A one season commitment to be reevaluated at the end of season is functionally
interim status.

You’re totally full of shit… sorry not sorry.

So it doesn't really matter if they use the "interim" tag or not? The negative to having interim tag is what it says to possible recruits or transfers. There is no positive. Kennedy I am sure knows he has to perform to secure job. He has been around and knows how it all works.

I hope he doesn’t think he knows how it all works and wants to be constantly learning. We will see based on how the season goes.

i'm pretty sure that until 2012, the university only issued one-year contracts for head coaches, not multi-year deals.

I love Justin, but there is also another man who might be out of a job this year that would have been worth a call and brings the same tenacity and might have been enough to get this defense over the top with the current offense this year. That man being Ronnie Bradford.

I generally agree, it's pretty late in the process to do a big search and be confident in hiring someone for the next several years. It's also asking a lot of the new coach coming in to recruit the players already on the team and potentially have to go find castoffs to fill holes if people bounce.

I also think we're looking at a national search next offseason, unless we have an insane season, and although that probably means a mass exodus, hopefully the next coach will have time to do things right.
One year and "interim" seem interchangable to me.

I don't agree. With interim, that would be mentioned alot. With one-year, that will rarely be mentioned. Most people won't know the year(s) remaining the contract.
Yeah, "one" is a pretty tough number to grasp for most people. No chance they'd know that it's "one".

How do you explain a person? Haslam. Then it hit me. The Budweiser Theme Song. Only change from Budweiser to Haslam.

Lighten up Griz Nation. Nothing to blow your brains out about. Hopefully some of you will get a laugh out of my 'epiphany.'

Haslam's decision making in a clip....
