No National Search?

No offense to Kennedy, but no national search with proper vetting is a bush league approach by Haslam.

At the very least, keep the interim tag on Kennedy so we know he has to earn the job next season.

I just do not understand this lack of strategy by Haslam. So stupid.

If the talk of a one-year deal are accurate, then Kennedy will need to earn the job. It also sounds like they didn't think a national search this late would be beneficial.

I really think due to how crazy the coaching world was due to how many were fired and hired this past season caused to this. If things go completely south it will give us a whole year (depending if it's decided in the middle of next year) to get a head start and find the best HC option available.

Doing a national search right now would have been the absolute worst idea. The staff and a ton of players would have bounced. This is literally the only way they have a chance of keeping staff and players here. Kennedy is basically on a 1 year contract anyways to be reevaluated. I think this was a smart move and the only move.

Then why not call him “interim” since that is what he is?

At this stage of the season, and if Bobby truly did make the announcement to Haslam yesterday that he is going to retire, there's no possible way of doing a national search at this time of the year. Most of the good coaches have either been hired by other schools or probably wouldn't want to leave their current school at this point. If anything, it's probably a smart move to have BK as the coach for next year for stability in what essentially would have been Hauck's final season anyway, and still go and do your national search as if you were going to replace Hauck for the 2027 season.

They way Haslam handled the Delaney intirim situation does not leave me with the warm and fuzzies with how all of this will go.
Same. I absolutely don't want this to turn into another Delaney situation. I felt Delaney should have been a one-year coach and we should have done a true national search that year while he kept the ship afloat. I also want there to be a true national search occur this year, and Bobby Kennedy can feel free to apply if he wants it.

He did say that they are evaluated yearly. So what’s the point? If he does good this year he’ll get extended. If not. They can search

Understandable. I really hope there is going to be a thorough national search regardless of what BK does (short of unreal results)

I generally agree, it's pretty late in the process to do a big search and be confident in hiring someone for the next several years. It's also asking a lot of the new coach coming in to recruit the players already on the team and potentially have to go find castoffs to fill holes if people bounce.

I also think we're looking at a national search next offseason, unless we have an insane season, and although that probably means a mass exodus, hopefully the next coach will have time to do things right.
