I have to hand it to you guys, THAT was a quality smackdown.

However, back to the topic at hand. I'll admin that I haven't read all 10 pages of this gripping saga but living in Oregon gives a sense of why they might reach down into FCS for a player who can play at most 1 year. Clearly the Ducks don't have a plug-in replacement for Mariota but the have some decent talent waiting in the wings. However QB is such an important position in their scheme (as it is in most -- but is even more in the hurry up) that they are a bit vulnerable this season and will be until they get a few games under their belts. They just happen to start out the season against a team that has beaten FBS teams and clearly VA is a big part of why. The expectation for the Ducks has built to the point that anything less than an NC run feels like failure. Losing your first game to an FCS team might alone mean but absolutely would mean one FBS loss and you are done. Yes the chances are slim but smart people minimize risk so go after the QB of your opponent and tilt the scales even more in your own direction -- and heck, you might even get a player that can help you. If you don't, it costs you one scholarship for one season. Worth it in my opinion. Of course you can also play the PR card claiming that you gave the a little guy a shot at the big time. Win-win (and hopefully) -win scenario.

I think the Griz and Griz faithful should abandon all academic respectability, recruit Prop 48s, tell themselves the program is something more than a last resort option for second chance players, install some colored turf, remove a shit ton of seats at WA-GRIZ, forget how to play defense, hire whiners for coaches, get some 1990s uniforms, put some rugs in some airports, disregard pre-2010 football, hit the meth pipe, and start posting on other teams' message boards. We could all be elected president.
