Vernon Adams picks Oregon

Maybe someone on this board can give me the definition of "fail" as it applies to Adams at the U of O ?? A nat'l title? Doubtful. A conference title? Unlikely. I keep hearing how SC has had another banner recruiting year, but they are still losing "big" games. (as it relates to where the program is right now). If he starts and wins 80% of his games I would call it successful. Personally, I'm glad VA and his lob passes are gone. I never felt we had a "snowball" chance in hell the last 3 games vs VA. I'm wondering how many times we had the lead last year vs VA ? If at all? Personally I wouldn't piss on the Ducks if they were on fire. I do hope the kid does well for the sake of the BSC... :egriz:

IMO, Fail = going to UO, either not winning the starting job, winning it and struggling (for any reason), or winning the starting job, and getting hurt and not playing in >50% of the games.
I won't fight you on any of those points. He'll need to adopt the "Russell Wilson" slide feet first technique before contact. Assuming, he's planning on lasting the season... :egriz:

Ahh he'll be fine if he plays how he did against the Griz...you know, any time a defender is within 3-5 yards he just drops to the turf like a sack of potatoes.

Adams did lay down a lot it shows all I need to see about his game, I always thought the "V" in his name was no accident.

The purpose of this post is twofold:

1- to kill the longest thread that I have ever personally started, and . . .

2- for those of you who might still have a mild curiosity about - and an interest in - the Vernon Adams saga, follow this link for a "discussion" that is for the birds.

Lots of deflated balls...

I'm reminded of when McGhee didn't transfer to TCU

That fear goes beyond Eastern Washington's blood-red field. During the early months of the 2013 offseason, when his all-conference quarterback Denarious McGhee was returning for a fifth season, Montana State head coach Rob Ash -- a Big Sky Conference rival of Eastern Washington -- said he was concerned for that very reason.

"It was in the back of my mind," Ash said. "Thankfully he didn't think of it. We want to play the NFL card in a good way. Finish here and guys will find you at the next level. You don't have to prove it at the FBS level."

Ewu had zero fu*king defense last year and lost their "best" CB and LB

They lose Adams, Hill, Forte and Brown.....not to mention the only decent OL they got from UDUB.

Yeah they are a lock for winning the BSC

Losing Adams and Forte is obviously huge, but I'm not really that worried about the offense. Plenty of playmakers out there and either West or Hennessey will do fine.

The defense is where improvement is needed. As we've seen the past 3 years, it doesn't matter if you have a QB who can throw 7 TD's in a game if your D can't stop anyone. We had anywhere from 8-9 Freshman playing on the D last season, so that unit will improve. We don't lose any CB's - I think you're probably thinking of McDonald, the UCLA transfer FS. Agreed on the LB's.

Eastern will be good next year, maybe even compete for a conference title again, but right now I'd put MSU as the early favorite. I don't know how much rebuilding they have to do overall, but Prukop is a baller.

I also think CP is a strong contender.

MSU, then in no particular order CP, EWU, and Montana. I'd expect there to be some suprise upsets as usual, but right now I'm not seeing anything outside the usual suspects that would make me think that someone other than what I listed will challenge. NAU could be decent, guess we'll see.

See, now ya did it. You're proving that there is intelligent life in Cheney.

Wait till you see UND this year. They're building something over there. They're not there yet, but their lines are pretty good.

Maybe, guess we'll see. After the 54-3 beat down in Cheney this year (with West at QB for EWU), I'd say they have a looooooong way to go to compete with the Big Sky elite.

That game was brutal, 2 very average teams slugging it out in a high school stadium, and I will give you a little credit your defense is light years ahead of the cats..........................

You bite your tongue. The EWU Eagles have a banner hanging from a parking garage. IF anything says you've "made it," it's a banner hanging from a parking garage.

I will only bite my tongue because I know you were typing that like Ron Ash would and throwing me under the bus......once again like Ron Ash would.

Sounds like some serious butt hurt is going on. Baldwin wont let VA use their facilities.

"For the next four months, he can't prep down there with them and he certainly can't be in our weight room or throwing with our guys ... and I talked to him about that," Baldwin said. "I go, 'What's your plan for the next four months? How are you going to prepare for your senior year? I love you to death, but one, you're moving on, and two, you're moving on to who we're playing in Week 1.'"

Watched Around the Horn today and they talked about Adams transferring. They went off on Baldwin and the school. Praised Adams for giving 4 years to the school and then doing what was best for him. Ridiculed Baldwin for not letting him practice with the team and acting like a spoiled brat who didn't get his way. I have to agree with them. Adams isn't getting paid. He fulfilled his obligation to the school and is now moving on to help his future.

Great article.

Another thought: will Baldwin's public teeth gnashing and whining over VA's defection hurt his chances of also being "raided" by an FBS program to better his and his family's future? (which is WAY different than what Vernon is doing).

Frankly, I'm surprised at Baldwin. And really happy he is not our new coach.

Exactly. I am so happy he didn't get the nod to coach the Griz. He's not the type of personality UM needs (or had ever wanted). Butthurt isn't a good look.

Coaches leave all the time for other schools. Kind of hypocritical .

And if Oregon had been offering Baldwin the head coaching job you can bet your bottom dollar he would have been gone in a heartbeat.

All kinds of people say dumb stuff all the time, but coaches should know better than to air their frustrations to a reporter for cripes sake.
