In the unlikely event the Griz continue their uncharacteristic trend of only one semifinal appearance every three years until the end of time thats still one more semi final appearance every three years the cats will ever see.

Can't be true. I just read that MSU is set to overtake UM in nearly every measurable metric (not sure what an immeasurable metric would be) within the next several years. Maybe it didn't include those metrics. I think it had more to do with ticket prices and a terrifying donation to a business school that should be good for a few Cat playoff wins.

I'm glad you are so happy that UM's ticket revenues dwarfs MSU, because our overall budget numbers beg to differ. Our '12 athletics budget was $22.5M while UM was at $19.2M. Considering how much your ticket sales did over ours, you should be absolutely embarrassed by those numbers. Again, we are closing fast on ticket sales revenue and that will only put us ever further ahead of you on overall budget. Basically, our President is really kicking your President's ass on fundraising. Plain and simple.

This isn't entirely accurate, the MSU budget for the last couple years comes in much higher than normal due to costs associated with the stadium expansion, they have had to add much more direct, indirect and administrative state-funded support. Those amounts went from $8.7 million in 2010 to $13 million in 2011, and went back to $9.5 million in 2012 when they also used approximately $4 million in contributions earmarked for the project.

The ticket sales obviously gained in 2012 with the stadium expansion, but the rest of the numbers will be hard to gauge until the 2012-2013 numbers come out in at the Regents meeting in January. That should be a more accurate comparison than the last couple years.

Bottom line the MSU athletic budget will be healthier with the extra football revenue, but I wouldn't start throwing stones quite yet.

I didn't realize that it was illegal to stats taken from the conference website. Or at least illegal for me (given the group of posters who want to disagree with anything I post).
