Not trying to 1-UP anybody but here is a post I made back in 2008.....kind of fun looking back at all of our predictions on Tru and other players. As I recall Player Rep was one of the first as well who thought Tru fit the "Hybrid" model for DB's as a large press corner/safety who can cover the slot as well as play center-field....

TJ is the most legit NFL CB prospect the Big Sky has produced since Joey Thomas......

I'm not sure TJ will develop the GREAT speed of JT but has more size..... so a move to safety may come if he gets to the NFL....there is still lots of time for him to develop which is scary..... Sounds like he has a much better attitude than Thomas did and Scouts definatley take note of that..... if TJ can wind up running in the 4.4 - 4.47 range for the 40 and continue to refine his coverage ability.....watch out first two rounds of the NFL draft.....no joke....... The Griz and the BSC in general have not seen an athlete of this caliber at the CB postion for a long time...... he is on track to join KJ Gerrard as a first team BSC corner...... although Freshman usually get screwed here...... I personally think he's better than KJ..... Tru should probably have 7 picks right now....he has had some blatent drops that I don't think were a result of not having good hands....... I know thats a lot of pressure to put on a True Freshman but what a steal we got with this recruit.......... All of our CB recruits have played exceptionally.....kinda makes it easy to for get about Jamaine Olsen doesn't it........I have a feeling he might have been the 4th corner on the depth chart this year

Cool story bro.... :coffee:

...tell it again. ;)

Good call, Baller. You were completely on it very early. Wish he could get to your hoped-for 40 time range.

Oh shit 420 you called me out with a "cool story bro"/coffee drinker guy!?!? Where on earth did you dream up that zinger?? OMG I am sooooo regretting my previous post now!

I bet you feel foolish now, huh Baller?

The cool little coffee drinker guy has become the go-to zinger on good old e-griz. dickinthebox got me good with it earlier this week and shut me up big time.

Hard to come back from this kind of thing....

I'm on my phone so I can't post it but on my 49ers app they have an article called 2012 Combine All-Personality Team. Tru was 1 of 2 CBs profiled. Mentioned he was confident and that he held his own vs Tennessee. Said he will be facing many more SEC WRs in the NFL.

I think he stays at corner. The reason he is getting so much attention is because you just don't see corners his size that can run and cover. The size of the average NFL reciever gets bigger every year and you can't expect a 5'-10" corner to cover the 6' 4" or taller reciever that that is becoming more common in the NFL. If Tru was 5'-10" he wouldn't get a sniff.

This

Plus

This: Tru is not a hitter. In fact, he's only an average tackler, certainly not a hard-hitting NFL safety. [Now someone will link the sensai hit vs. CP but that's one big shot on a blindsided screen. I don't ever remember him puting a lick on rusher]

= i think he stays at CB.

Tru's certainly not a hitter if you're comparing him to Jimmy Wilson

he's not a hitter compared to anyone, esp JW (who apparently isn't suited for safety either). when compared to NFL safeties, Tru's not even close in this dept. his biggest (only?) weakness imo is hitting, so i think CB. but the league is changing and ball skills are more impt than head hunting these days so maybe i'm way off.

I was just in one of those moods.. Nothing against you man :thumb:

I watched what I could of the combine and listened to the comments made by the analysts. What I came away with was that Tru could indeed play either CB or Safety in the league. Some think he might be better suited at Safety but I didn't hear anyone categorically rule him out as a CB.

The one skill that was not tested, at least I didn't see it, is anticipation and quickness off the snap. Whether you actually call this a skill or not is debatable but Tru is extremely good at this and is probably a skill best suited for corner play.

Bottom line in my opinion is that he could play either position in the NFL. Exactly which he will end up playing will be determined by who drafts him and what needs they have in the secondary.

With his performance at the combine I wouldn't be surprised to see him be a late first or early second rounder, and definitely picked in the second round.

Seems that Tru is also on the Vikings radar as per an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune! Will be interesting where he ends up!

haha its all good...just had to throw somethin back at ya :D

Interesting:

I see that Tru has fallen off Mayock's list of top 5 corners or top 5 safeties. I wonder if the combine 40-time hurt him worse than we think?

I wouldn't doubt that. On the DL's he moved Dontari Pope from fifth to first based largely on his 40 time. Darn near 400 pound man scootin along under 5 seconds. Impressive.

Geez......thats a relief after reading some of these threads i thought he was gonna be number one overall. Can you imagine the state of the NFL if someone like johnson gets drafted in the top ten.I wonder if he will be able to pound his chest with the same amount of intimidation as he did in the Big Sky. What say the rest of you big timers :D :D
