The Summit League will be calling

Maybe not, but it would be much improved over the Big Sky or Summit. As you stated, the conversations have been ongoing for years. Dennison was firm on staying in the Big Sky. I doubt if Engstrom cared.
Dennison was firm for the Big Sky over the WAC when the WAC would have had

NMSU
Montana
Montana St
Idaho
Sam Houston St
Lamar
McNeese St
Stephen F Austin
Denver and Seattle as non-fb

That WAC wasn’t acceptable to him at FBS.

This new league would be as it is much more regional, academic, research and competitive. Dennison knew that the Dakota schools had FBS promise even in D2.

How eGriz can’t get that through their skulls is simply amazing.

Hey, bud. Maybe just give it a rest now, mmmkay? Be a buddy and post again when this is being discussed at a high level at all. And get off the shed.

You do realize that the Big Sky did UND a favor by keeping the scheduled games.
You egriz bunch realize that your excuses are sooo lame. Just wanna play Dixie St and CWU for wins to keep Washington-Griz filling up.

Not true. We want shot at Augustana.

Engstrom wanted USD (where he had been the Provost, right), and with that UND. Also, even he was smart enough to know that the WAC wasn't right for UM and was going to fold, which it did.

Another enlightened theory huh? I'll add it to the other 500 that didn't come to fruition.

Dennison had been provost at W. Michigan before coming back to UM as president; Engstrom had been provost at USD before becoming provost at UM. The BSC provided a home for the remaining Great West Conf. members after NDSU bolted for the MVFC. After Fullerton botched the admission applications of NDSU and SDSU to the conference and instead took UNC, he thought he could cover his tracks with this major addition, but USD scuttled his plan by moving to the MVFC, leaving UND on the fringe of the conference, hardly the prize of the acquisitions, and a 13 member conference. The BSC was glad they finally found their appropriate home in the MVFC and welcomed Idaho back to the conference. No need for midwestern members in the BSC.

The only option is to go West and UND has a ongoing relationship with all the Big Sky schools. The southern BIg Sky hates UND for travel but loves the Montanas because those are nearly the only travel fans, so they can make their own bed with similar schools.
Yes, UND has an ongoing relationship with all the Big Sky schools. Not a positive relationship, however. There is not a BSC school interested in traveling to Grand Forks.

Unless it is for financial reasons, why would the University of Montana want to be in either the Big Sky or Summit?
We should plan to join the Mountain West Conference when finances allow. Otherwise, stay where we are.

I meant Engstrom.

None of the schools that have been mentioned are exciting for Montana to join in a conference affiliation. I would like to see UM in a conference with the likes of Wyoming, Colorado State, Utah State, Utah. Let’s get away from Eastern Washington, Northern Colorado, Idaho State and yes, Montana State if we can get it done.

Those schools have too high budgets that you cant afford. The southern Big Sky has too low so they can’t afford you.

The Summit is just right for budgets. That’s the deciding factor now days.

Yet two of the full "southern schools" offer more overall athletic scholarships than any of the northern schools, and the two affiliates do as well.

The Cali schools will be exiting too, but with the WAC and Southland callups. Dennison rejected that conference.

NAU just doesnt have any capitol budget.

Why would the Summit be calling if "It was agreed to years ago" ?

Because the Montana Prez's are waiting for a phone call. The eastern Summit needs to be gone so they can be voted in.

You are nothing if not persistent.

I laugh every time because UNDconspiracyfan actually believes that his vision of "The Summit" is actually a huge leap from the current BSC...

And where are the eastern summit schools going?

So you have 4/5 different conferences all working in secret to rearrange deck chairs. Fascinating.

Please give a deadline as to when this happens.

Fort WaYne openly wants in the Horizon League. W Illinois is a financial basket case so maybe the OVC takes them like EIU, which is in worse shape.

The Summit commish confirmed that both want out soon.

Link?

Yes, IPFW wants Horizon, but the Horizon has not given any indication that the Horizon wants them.

WIU - again, please link. WIU would be on the far edge of the OVC, and again, no indication that the OVC wants them or WIU wants the OVC.
