The people that don't fund raise or contribute big money to the program don't understand this. They watch games on TV from the Seattle area and dream of snapping their fingers and being Boise State.

Some of us that live out here have actually looked around and just happened to notice 30x the population in the metro Seattle area than what Missoula has to offer.

Some of us that live here in Seattle actually understand that the beauty of Missoula is that it is not Seattle. That Missoula has nothing to be ashamed of for not being Seattle with a metro area population of 3.4 million. Not 3.4 million white tail deer. Or 3.4 million rainbow trout. Or 3.4 million square miles of of beautiful wilderness area. Or whatever the fuck it is. But 3.4 million people. As opposed to Missoula's 110,000. The Bay Area's 7.15 million people. Or Los Angeles's metro population of 18 million+. Or Phoenix's metro area population of 4.1 million. Or Salt Lake City's metro population of 2.3 million. Or Denver's metro area population of 2.6 million.

Fortunately, after listening to reason from MoveUp.org I am not one of those fools. Missoula should be damned ashamed that it isn't playing with the big boys by gawd. Get a Mercedes dealership for Christ's sake. And a Lexus dealership or four you fools.

Get rid of those trashy dives like Stock's and Red's, and put in a few more Red Robins and Buffalo Wild Wings, because anyone with a clue knows that the chain stores beat the local dives hands down. Why anyone would want to go to the Press Box after three playoff games a year when the can have this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvdA38HQm4g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

is beyond me. I'm sure Gordie Fix hated the extra people he had to hire for all those playoff games. If only they were all in New Mexico for the Run For the Border Bowl.

Ask any kid from Loyola Sacred Heart who isn't too embarrassed to admit it, whether they would have rather won the lowly 2012 Class B state championship with Loyola or if they would have rather been on the 1 & 9 Missoula Hellgate squad. To me, now that I have been enlightened by MoveUp.org, why does class B football even exist in the state of Montana? I personally would be embarrassed to admit I had a kid that was on that Loyola team when any one of them could have gone to Hellgate and played with the big boys. I mean seriously, what is the point of class B? Class C? C-6? What a joke. Go play for a AA school or go home you jokers.

Having played football for Libby during one of the last years in AA, let me tell you what an absolute honor it was getting our asses kicked every fucking week by Kalispell, Hellgate, Sentinel, and Helena. Hell, we thought it was such an honor to not be playing against Whitefish that we let Big Sky win their first game in school history. We lost by a combined score of 587-4 that year, but at least we were AA. Suck on that Polson you pussies!

Now, about that thing of the Buffalo Bills relocating to St. Ignatius...

Oh good lord... do you even know what "Irony" means??... Irony is when a group of wannabe's boasts, brags and remains ARROGANT about a particular team WHO HAS FAILED TO DOMINATE THE FCS IN A DOZEN YEARS by continually whining that they should move up to get better competition!!

IRONY is saying "Oh my God this from an EWU fan" in an obvious attempt to belittle the EWU program THAT DOMINATED THE FCS JUST 2 YEARS AGO....

However, expecting a UM fan (esp one from Anaconda), to know how to apply big words like "IRONY" is just expecting too much!!

Yet the worst Griz team in 25 years nearly beat you in your house last year. It doesn't surprise me that an EWU fan thinks irony is a "big word". I am impressed that your mom lets you play with the computer to post your thoughts. Don't forget to shut the lights off in the basement before you go back upstairs.

Don't be too impressed. His Mom actually proof reads all his posts before he can send them. She does this after he is fed his bottle and she changes his depends. Screaming Eagle's Mom fills in sometimes when SM's Mom is out with her boyfriend 2506. They met on the website grizenvy.com. Arguing with this clown is useless. Similar to a degree from Eastern Washington University. I can't wait for the inspiring posts after EWU gets pounded in Missoula this year.

You know, I always read these "move up" threads on here for entertainment. I've said my opinion on the matter several times and expressed that Griz fans should appreciate what they've accomplished and what they've created in Missoula. But the more I think about it, the more I hope they move up. It would suck because I personally like EWU playing UM every year and continuously creeping closer and closer to the success Griz fans said EWU would never see, but it would almost be better to see them move up and get their asses kicked year after year and realize just how good they used to have it and what they left behind. How many schools have to move up and fail before UM fans see that it's a bad idea? Seriously, leave Missoula, MT and go see other places. Put yourself in a recruits mind for just one second. WHY IN THE HELL would any recruit choose Missoula over countless other FBS schools? You wanna go to the MWC? Sunbelt? Seriously, go. Please go. Take your 4-5 wins a year and occasional Shit Bowl trophy and go. But you're no better than the high and mighty money grabbers that let computers and EAST COAST writers determine a National Champion.

As far as poking fun at EWU, well I can't let it bother me. Who's history would I rather have the last 5 years? Answer is pretty simple. Keep telling yourself EWU is some commuter school that only wishes they could be the daunted University of Montana Grizzlies and go on your little way over in Montana with clearly people can't see outside the box, and EWU will continue to grow in enrollment, continue to win Big Sky Championships, and continue to improve year after year. And also try doing all this with a Pac 12 school 75 miles down the road, (2 in the state) and be 1 of 5 universities in a 100 mile area.

You wanna go to the MWC

Yes. Dear God, YES!!!

And recruits already choose UM over FBS programs. What makes you think that wouldn't happen when UM is an FBS program.

And finally, there's more to life than football. While I personally think UM football would compete just fine at the next level, a move to the MWC would be fantastic for the other programs on campus, particularly both BB programs.

Well, too bad. They obviously don't want you.

But FCS playoff games are "money-makers for small schools"? Far from it; they are are money-losers across the board.

I wonder how Gordie Fix, Mike Helean, Mike Larson, and dozens of other small and not so small business owners in Missoula feel about the playoffs being money losers.

I'm going to just throw out a hypothetical, but I'm guessing Montana gets kids that would most likely fit one of the following:

1. Ride the pine for most major BCS conference schools.
2. Start for a body-bag BCS school.
3. Start for a winning program at the FCS level with a history of sending players to the next level.

I know which I would pick if I was in that category.

At one point I would have agreed with you, and point to the fact that Griz football receives orders of magnitude more attention than the basketball program that already plays at that level, but the MoveUp.org crowd convinced me of my nefarious ways. Plus, if we have the fan base to support a losing BCS program then we surely have the fan base to support an NFL team. And with more billionaires per capita in Montana than any state in the union, the brilliance of relocating the Buffalo Bills to St. Ignatius as a joint venture with our move to the ACC is well, blinding in its brilliance.

I don't know how the rest of this fan board feels but I kinda wish you'd go back to posting your once in a great while "epic blasts" type of posts. I mean, I am still laughing about your "Pleistocene Epoch", "Pole Dancers from Fred's Lounge "and "warming up in the middle of a herd if buffalo" comments from your post last month. Please do us all a favor and fight the "urge" to become a common poster. You're too good for that role. It's summer time in Montana. Maybe you can go out into the woods and live on "locusts and wild honey" for awhile and return just before the ASU game lean and mean and with your "creative batteries" re-charged. I want another "brilliant" post please! You seem to me to be more like a "quality" over "quantity" type guy anyway.

Point well taken Mr. CV (Does that stand for Carrier Vessel since we're on the acronym tangent?). Anyway, I live in the Seattle area but again, point taken on the summer time thing.

Still debating on whether to attend the opening game of Husky Stadium where I've been a season ticket holder for 15 years (tickets have been in the wife's family for close to 70), or heading back to Missoula for the ASU game. If it would have been a morning game like most I was considering flying back here after the game and trying to catch both in one day. No such luck.

Anywho, off to one of the local aviation museums. I'll check in after a few weeks for the next batch of MoveUp.org threads.

Cheers

After reading the Denver Post article linked at the beginning of this thread, apparently the plan for D1 colleges/universities around the country is to recruit increasing numbers of students from other states so those students have to pay much higher tuition than in-state students, thus increasing revenues for all universities around the country and allowing them to thrive in the face of legislative budget cuts in their own states. That concept in and of itself is ludicrous so therefore I’ll play it out to its equally ludicrous conclusion.

In order to accomplish this plan, the athletic departments of these universities will have to continually raise much more money so they can upgrade athletic facilities in order to attract better coaches who will recruit better players who will win more games and thereby make their universities more attractive to out-of-state students than the universities in other states and in the students’ home state.

Here’s the paradox (it would seem obvious but evidently it isn’t) – in each game, there is a winning team and a losing team so everyone cannot win. Yet, the universities act as though everyone can win if only they raise and spend enough money to do so. That money supposedly translates to more positive exposure for the university in the form of athletic success and therefore attracts more out-of-state students and therefore more revenue for the university as a whole, allowing it to continue to grow.

That plan works right up to the point where the university loses too many football/basketball games and doesn’t get enough out-of-state students anymore and loses money and is forced to close down because they are broke. Ultimately, then, the only colleges/universities that will survive are those who win the most football/basketball games (basketball gets mentioned in this discussion but football is king and that’s what this is really all about).

The problem with that is then the closed universities and their bad football teams will no longer be around for the universities with the good football teams to beat up on. That means the good teams will all have to play each other and once again, there will be winners and losers and once again the losers will be forced to close their universities because their football team failed to win enough games to attract those highly valued out-of-state students.

Playing this whole scenario out to the end, there will only be one university left in this country that is worth paying out-of-state tuition to attend and that will be the university that wins the ‘Ultimate National Championship Game’. It will be a very large university with a very large football stadium and very large amounts of students, fans and money. Right now that Ultimate National Champion would be the University of Alabama, given their back-to-back national championships (and winners of 3 out of the last 4 titles) and their number one ranking as this season begins.

Is that what everyone wants, to become a student/alum/fan of a university that doesn’t even have a real mascot (Crimson Tide is not a mascot and they have somebody running around in an elephant costume for some reason) and whose students/alums/fans walk around holding up sticks that have an empty box of Tide laundry detergent on the end of them with a roll of toilet paper attached to the top of the Tide box while babbling the words “Roll Tide”? Is that the ultimate goal here, because that is where this is all headed …

This whole financial arms race approach to running colleges and universities across this country is ludicrous yet it’s what’s being done by the so-called ‘intellectually elite’ on college campuses across the country. With 37 million people already owing a total of $1 trillion in student loan debt, one would think they would be looking for ways to make college more affordable for students but instead, they have decided the answer is to get students to pay more by going out-of-state because a university has a winning football team. Genius!

As far as the whole ‘move up’ issue here in Montana, if there was ever a sliver of a chance that UM and MSU would move up, it is now gone. Both universities’ athletic departments have proven conclusively over the past several years that they cannot handle the administrative responsibilities of FCS football programs so why would the decision makers in this state agree to allow them to run larger FBS programs? If a program with 63 scholarships is too much for them to handle, how could they possibly deal with a bigger program with 85 scholarships? If anything, UM and MSU should be worried about being forced to move down to DII where both of the athletic departments would have a better chance of being able to handle things without the NCAA being on their backs. :coffee:
