Snow

Havre, like many towns in Central Montana have blasted every winter record on the books for snow fall, and cold. It sucks. My back yard is protected by a 10-foot privacy fence, and a ton of tree shade. I have easily four feet on the ground, and some drifts much higher than that. My back yard won't fully melt out until late April, and that's IF the weather gets better than what's predicted for this spring. Lived here all my life, seen some bad winters. This one has been right up there. Though, not what like they've gone through in Browning.

It's no better to the south; I would not be getting out my lane but for my D3 Cat. Plow it out and within a few hours it's drifted shut again. La Nina at its best. Mud by May....

Spring ball keeps getting earlier and earlier. Why? It's a full month earlier than when I was playing. It's MT in the first week of March, duh! Crazy.

I do not know why they keep making it earlier.

Daylight Savings Time is the reason they keep making it earlier.

You know, "Spring Forward" means spring ball moves forward into winter.

FWIW, after this weekend's snow I believe Billings has had just over 90" in snowfall this winter. We are running out of places to pitch the damn snow.

We've had at least a foot on the ground in Helena since probably mid-December. Usually have at least a couple Chinooks that blow in and melt most of it, but that hasn't really happened this winter.

Also, if you look closely you can see the Mission and Swan ranges are both in the 50+ foot range. :o

The Beartooths were at 175% snowpack before the last blast that laid another foot in the valley. We can only hope it comes out gradually. Fortunately it is not all late snow.

Those that live in Missoula. How much snow is actually on the ground over there now?

I was in Missoula yesterday and there is none on the ground. Decent March weather in the mid to high 30s. Quite the difference when I came back up to Havre.

I live in Great Falls so you know what we got...

I grew up over there. One of the main reasons I live in Missoula. It sure as hell isn't for the economy......

This is also the reason I get so annoyed at the weather theatrics during games. People don't realize how much milder Missoula usually is compared to the rest of the state. People who have lived in Missoula their whole lives are usually the worst.

On the hills around town, 2-5" still on the ground. Down in town, snow is mostly gone except for piles/drifts.

I used to live on Woodbine Place, I don't miss climbing or going down Hillview Way in the winter.

It's been a snowier winter in Butte this year, getting back to the way it was like in the 70's and 80's around here.

Northern MT has gotten more snow than Southern MT.

However Butte is still one of the coldest places in the state.

I would say the early start for practice is to get them ready for November and December football games, but again, what do I know? I've heard that it gets chilly in Montana some years in November and December.

Billings has gotten 78.4” of snow so far. That does not count what we got last night. My driveway pike is about 4’ high x 8’ wise.

Havre, has it got above freezing yet.

Kalispell has about 1-1/2' still on the ground with deeper drifts. Golfing will be frustratingly late this year.

E Glacier/Browning has 243" reported so far. W Glacier 143". GTFOOH!!

Gotta go further south. :D San Antonio got a skiff right before Christmas....that’s about it. Sunshine is a lot easier to shovel.

It can get tough to shovel in July down there.

running out of places to put it here in Brozeman. its amazing how many transplant yuppies won't shovel their sidewalks. almost like the realtor told them that someone would take care of it for them.

Gee, which cross section of America believes the government will take care of everything for them? :D :D

some particular folks down the street (with an unshoveled walk) have quite the lifted pickup with snowmobiles in the back and "don't tread on me" plates. laziness doesn't follow party lines.
