PR is right again. I have no doubt EWU went into sleep mode MENTALLY. I have no doubt they were one hundred percent sure the game was over at 42-17 and who the hell can blame them. But with the exception of the two running plays at 42-17 series and two running plays at 42-24 series, they didn't exactly go into super conservative mode. No, from after it was 42-24 they came out and starting throwing again, and you could tell they were interested in scoring again.
God, some Griz fans' agenda is so transparent it's funny. They can't even credit what was another great comeback attempt. Yes, it was bad the Griz got trounced for a good portion of the game and needed to come back, but it was a GREAT attempt at a comeback, and not to mention, IF Kjelby doesn't get flagged on Cam's touchdown it's 28-24 and THAT'S A DIFFERENT GAME and every Griz fan and EWU fan knows it.
Never-the-less, the Eags won, they are the better team, five points better, but still better. They deserved the win. I have no problem saying that. But if you think the way the Eags played the fourth quarter is the same as how Cal Poly played the last drive against the Griz, you weren't watching the game that closely. It wasn't even close to the same mentality.
Good post. Note that there was only 1 run by a rb in the 42-24 series. I don't recall the play, so don't know if the qb was doing a running play or a scramble.
The Griz definitely had a great comeback but if you don't think the Eags shut it down in the 4th you are kidding yourself. EWU thought they would coast to a win, started running the ball, the Griz made a game of it and EWU tried to pick it back up and couldn't.
You want stats, until the 4th quarter, Eastern never started a series with back to back running plays. In the 4th quarter, Eastern's first two series both started with running plays on first and second down, both led to 3 and outs. Hell, it was 2nd and 23 and Eastern ran a running play, do you think they do that in the first 3 quarters? No. Eastern stopped being aggressive and it hurt them. No doubt I think this is a runaway if Eastern keeps the pressure on to start the 4th rather than go into clock management mode but credit the Griz for staying in the game and making a comeback.
Also Eastern's starting safety and backup safety both left the game before the 4th qtr, leaving a true freshman to try to cover when the Griz went spread, and credit to the Griz, you lit the secondary up in the 4th.
Good luck from here on out...
