QB Development

The more I think about it, I think the best comp for Brown is Brady Gustafson.

That’s exactly who I see when Brown’s in the game. Exactly. Just a slightly better runner.

And it’s not a flattering comparison.

Graves was an elite qb in high school...he should be reconsidered

Really. You want a guy that has already changed position to move back because he was "elite" in high school to compete with others again that also had success in high school, that didn't change position? Seems logical.

Seriously. If we’re going to consider players who were “elite” in HS, why not Rostad? I mean at least he JUST switched positions…..not 3 YEARS ago… (and no, I’m not advocating for Rostad to be given a shot at QB).

Like you said in an earlier post, HHB, the QB who takes the majority of the snaps next year didn’t take a single snap this year for the Griz.

At least Rostad has only changed position once.

Insofar as giving Graves the QB try, his previous experiences as receiver and defense should better equip him with insights to be qb now...hes well acquainted with the system more than an import and hes a "gamer." Just saying...

We just had a great season, with loads of injuries to key players, and were required to start a young QB who should not have had that responsibility placed on his back. What is your obsession with slamming Brown, which you do every opportunity you get? He is a freshman for Christ's sake. Did Johnson and Berquist look as good as the starting senior QB on the team when they were freshman? We know you have a love-child for Humphrey, who has enough shortcomings of his own, and he is a senior. But your constant ragging on Brown gets old. Give the kid a break. He may or may not be the answer, but I don't think you, or anyone else knows that at this point. And do you think that you are helping the kid's confidence by your constant ragging on him? Many of these players read your comments.

JFC people. We legitimately could have had Cam, Knight, Ostmo, Sulser, Akem, and Toure playing for us on Friday had it not been for injuries or a transfer. That is 5 KEY starters at all the skill positions and we wonder why our offense struggled. We didn't lose a single game this year where Cam was our QB on the last snap. We were very good despite all the obstacles.

We beat Washington, Eastern, and the Cats. We had a shitty bracket draw, but still were moving the ball very well against JMU when we had Cam and Akem. Take a step back from the ledge.

Right, but this thread is about the quarterbacks behind him. I agree with you on everything, but even if that's true, it's not much comfort having watched Brown play 5 games this season.

I'm not ready to give up on him, but he needs a LOT of work.

OK, Brown’s Dad.

Yeah, I’m the ONLY one here who doesn’t think Brown was/is ready for prime time.

And stop saying he’s a fucking freshman. He’s a college JUNIOR. He’s 21 fucking years old. He’s been in the system for THREE YEARS. This ain’t his first rodeo, sorry. If after three full years in the SAME offensive system he wasn’t ready to step in and have us barely miss a beat then he just AIN’T. THE. GUY. Period. End of story. Nothing against the kid personally, but it happens literally at every position on the field. People get recruited, some pan out, some don’t. It’s not the end of the world, nor is it the end of the world for Kris Brown. He’ll survive, I’m certain of it, regardless of what my opinion is of his football abilities. And the ONLY thing that all has to do with Cam Humphrey is that he gave us a better chance to win. Doesn’t mean I’m in love with his football abilities, but based on the choices we had, he gave us the best chance. That’s all. It’s really not that complicated when you take (your) emotion out of it, Dad.

Vigen develops qb’s. Rosenbach doesn’t.

I was thinking the same thing and how Mellot is still a diamond in the rough, but 5 combined tds in his second start as a freshman against the #1 team in the country on the road and crushes it, maybe he’s already a diamond. Anyone have any comparable where a freshman takes over in the playoffs and takes his team to the semi finals? Unbelievable story and to watch it play out was just incredible. That game and his performance is going to be huge to that program. Remember Johnny football? We better get used to Touchdown Tommy being constantly over used in the media for the next 3 years. He’s the next Troy, how do they keep finding these guys? But with Vigen coaching him he will become elite very fast if he isn’t already. If he takes them to the chipper and wins it, yeah I’m think he’s probably ready. Butte and family roots his grandfather taught me in school. Hard not to root for the kid wow. I’m also betting Troy wins the buchanan because of his resume. If Ford led the nation ints on a team as good as the Griz his contribution was huge flipping possession that many times changed the outcome of games. He’s my pick, Patrick and then Troy. That whole cat defense is really good. I think Patrick was more important to the Griz defense then troy was to the cats. Did you see troy played the second half with one arm and was still running guys down and making tackles. Looked like he probably separated it again same one he had surgery on after getting beat like a rented mule for 3 years. Hope he is able to play. I think they got lucky with vigen also. Look at the guys bio on their rooster the guy knows how to develop guys and teams using the ndsu model. Which is seems to keep working.

I think cats and Griz will both be elite level for the foreseeable future. Good for the state and the bsc.

You are full of shit again. Brown is a red shirt freshman, and this is his second year in the system. Yes there are many Grizzly fans who do not think Kris is the answer as the starter next year. That is their opinion. But you take it to another level, never missing an opportunity to slam him. You make more posts on here than anyone, and your lack of football knowledge is exhibited routinely. You might think you are a positive influence on these kids who bust their ass every day on this team, but I assure you they don't appreciate the type of support you think you give.

Fair. The staff will most assuredly be bringing in a transfer QB. It's going to be a WIDE open competition in the spring.
