QB Development

Yeah, so were Rostad and Bergen. QB at this level is a different ballgame.

Don’t agree, Rogstad was Gatorade player of the year over Brown for a reason. And this staff moved Rogstad to lb. my opinion is Rogstad is more physical of the two and that’s the kind qb the offense needs a bigger version of Snead. But we will never know. Did Rogstad see the field on defense this year? If it’s so different at this level why is Mellot a freshman doing so well? Vigan tailoring the play calling for him? Still amazing what he has done for them.

Really. You want a guy that has already changed position to move back because he was "elite" in high school to compete with others again that also had success in high school, that didn't change position? Seems logical.

Seems to be working for the cats Mellot was playing special teams all season and started to take snaps half way through the season. Graves is a physical runner what have they got to lose at this point. He should start next year on defense anyway.

The last I checked Mellot plays for the Bobcats, so why are you comparing him to qb’s on our roster? For the record, he is a pure athlete with talent far superior to any qb on our roster.

Don't count out Britt competing for the QB spot as well. Should be fun seeing who rises to the top come fall! Go Griz

Because it’s a football board and the topic is qb development and the kid is from butte and he just won on Saturday and I was disagreeing with his premise that a guy just can’t be thrown into playing qb after not playing for 2 years. Mellot seems to be doing well as a freshman after not starting during the regular season. My point was Graves was an elite high school qb, he has size, he’s physical, he’s been retuning kicks and I wasn’t comparing him to any qbs on our roster.

OK, Brown’s Dad.

Yeah, I’m the ONLY one here who doesn’t think Brown was/is ready for prime time.

And stop saying he’s a f###[#] freshman. He’s a college JUNIOR. He’s 21 f###[#] years old. He’s been in the system for THREE YEARS. This ain’t his first rodeo, sorry. If after three full years in the SAME offensive system he wasn’t ready to step in and have us barely miss a beat then he just AIN’T. THE. GUY. Period. End of story. Nothing against the kid personally, but it happens literally at every position on the field. People get recruited, some pan out, some don’t. It’s not the end of the world, nor is it the end of the world for Kris Brown. He’ll survive, I’m certain of it, regardless of what my opinion is of his football abilities. And the ONLY thing that all has to do with Cam Humphrey is that he gave us a better chance to win. Doesn’t mean I’m in love with his football abilities, but based on the choices we had, he gave us the best chance. That’s all. It’s really not that complicated when you take (your) emotion out of it, Dad.

You are full of shit again. Brown is a red shirt freshman, and this is his second year in the system. Yes there are many Grizzly fans who do not think Kris is the answer as the starter next year. That is their opinion. But you take it to another level, never missing an opportunity to slam him. You make more posts on here than anyone, and your lack of football knowledge is exhibited routinely. You might think you are a positive influence on these kids who bust their ass every day on this team, but I assure you they don't appreciate the type of support you think you give.

Brown graduated from high school in 2019. He’s in his third year of college. He is a college junior. He may be a redshirt freshman ELIGIBILITY wise but he is a college junior. And this is his third year in the program. Anything else you want to be wrong about, dad?

Oh, and I believe I have ZERO influence on these “kids”. Zero. And if I DO have any influence, then I question that kid’s maturity for placing any value on a fan’s perspective.

It’s Rostad. There’s no G in his name.

I’m typing with fucking auto correct. I would like to see him switched back to qb. He has a fierce streak in him watching him dominate both sides of the ball in hs. He has sneads competive attitude but hes way bigger and just as fast. Hauck said they put Patterson in because they thought he gave them the best chance to win in that situation. I think he was right, he moves around better and is more elusive then Brown and he certainly got chased out of the pocket but made something out of nothing. I think Brown will start next year though and I believe they will coach him up to the standards that they need to have in a qb to be a good offense. Knight, osmo, and sulser back will certainly help and take some of the load of. The guy has been in the program for 3 years he has to be way ahead of everyone else by now. I hope anyway.

Incorrect, even though Mellott was playing special teams, he was always a QB. He was not moved from QB to RB to S.

I never said he wasn’t a qb. He played h back, receiver and special teams and also started taking snaps in “games” half way through the season. He was listed behind McKay, rovig and Bauman at the start of the season so not a lot of reps. as 4 string and he is a freshman. Rogstad was in the qb room for I think at least two years before he got moved. He can still shake off the rust don’t you think?

Turn your autocorrect off.

But he was in the QB room the entire time. Graves and Rostad were passed by guys and are no longer in the QB room. You want to move guys back because you think they are now better than the guys that stayed in the QB room? I would think that the successful path would be to see what the others that remained in the QB can do, or bring in a transfer QB. So many like to think success at QB on the HS level translates, and it usually does, but not necessarily to the QB position, as most HS QB's are the most athletic at their HS. The athleticism translates.

I agree about the athleticism from hs and qbs not playing that position in college. Do you know anything about Huot? I have heard he is big and physical like Rostad. I wonder if he will be moved also. McKay certainly didn’t work out for the cats as a drop down. Snead obviously did. I would like to see a kid get developed over 5 years and see how that works out.

I agree; he could win the starting job at Tech or Western. This is the third year he's been coached up at Montana and we see how far we got.

I think everyone would, but that doesn't seem to happen very often at all in FCS college football.
It happens in FCS football more than it does in FBS. Traditionally, project type players are what FCS has compared to the four and five star polished athletes that go FBS. The transfer portal will change this a bit. The diamonds in the rough will still start off FCS as they always have and then jump to FBS.

It is not the norm at either level, but if you look at just the BSC, it seems that only EB and Davis Alexander fit the bill. Some of the under classman could, but odds are they don't. A kid is just as likely to get beat out by a newer recruit as they are by a transfer.

Rosie can't develop qb's period. He has yet to develop a single qb. These Montana boys coming in have the talent, but they need a real coach. Let's start with the problem, get rid of Rosie and get a real OC/QB coach. We could have had some very good home grown qb's, (Graves, Rostead)

Cam graduated high school in 2015 and still sucked... wtf is your point?? You realize a lot of people get redshirted and covid gave everyone an extra year right? Just because he was with the program for 3 years doesn't mean anything.. they didn't play last year... did you forget that? This was his first year of game time. First year throwing in a live game in 3 years... no college experience. And he did damn well for that. Not to mention he had a higher completion percentage than Cam and only passed for 700 less yards with only having significant time in 4 games compared to Humphrey's 9.... fuck you're dumb dude.
