I'd be happy with either Mitchell or Phillips. I'm leaning toward Phillips just because he seems incredibly accurate in the short to mid range passing. This along with consistency is really important to running stitts offense and sustaining long drives and driving up the play count.

After watching more of nick Mitchell the decision is harder haha. Heck of a running threat. I'm sure whoever stitt brings in will be talented enough to compete for the starting job.

Sounds like a well-spoken intelligent kid. I like what he brings to the table, and think he would succeed in stitts system. I haven't given up on Gustafson, but he needs to improve and cut back on the number of big time errors if he wants to hold on to the starting job. This is very possible as he's still only started 6 or 7 college games and has room for improvement, but I definitely would like to see this guy come in to compete.

Wrong. Did Drew Miller need to be a threat running? No.

Gus can move but he stays in the pocket and allows his WR's to make plays at his expense. Much tougher to do than scramble for a few yards. Amazed at the obsession some of you still have for finding a soft QB who doesn't have the balls to sit in the pocket. Especially in this offense.

After redshirting during his first season at UK in 2013, Phillips appeared in three games as Towles’ backup quarterback in 2014. An Achilles’ tendon injury on the eve of spring practice in 2015 prevented him from competing for the starting job again, but he returned to the field in the fifth game of the season against Eastern Kentucky as the holder on field goals and extra points. Barker was listed as Towles' backup throughout the season before taking over the starting job in the final two games.

Since Phillips used his redshirt season in 2013, he would need to be granted a sixth-year waiver to complete his eligibility in order to gain back any time lost to injury. That waiver appears unlikely as a player generally needs to have missed two full seasons due to injury to qualify.

Edwards was never in Miller's league as a passer. It is still a sin that Glenn didn't use Brandon Neill more to bail out Edwards, particularly in the last four games of 2002. But then Neill's dad didn't donate the cash for the sprint turf on Wash/Griz.

Not to pick on the kid, but our O line sure made Gus not want to stand in the pocket. He wasn't much of the pocket threat you talk about.

THAT'S not when he needs to be a running threat. He needs to be a running threat when he calls a RUNNING play. If the defense NEVER has to worry about the QB but can tee off on the only RB in the backfield on a running play, that isn't going to work long term...we saw that in the NDSU game. With Gus playing on 1 1/2 legs he absolutely wasn't going to run. Because of that the NDSU D teed up Nguyen all day. Need a QB that CAN run so he can pull the ball back if the DE crashes down.

THAT'S not when he needs to be a running threat. He needs to be a running threat when he calls a RUNNING play. Correct! You can't execute a "zone read" running play if the QB never keeps. It just becomes a deep handoff and we've seen how that works against a good DL, i.e. DOA running game.

Edwards was never in Miller's league as a passer. It is still a sin that Glenn didn't use Brandon Neill more to bail out Edwards, particularly in the last four games of 2002. But then Neill's dad didn't donate the cash for the sprint turf on Wash/Griz.

Hope Edwards didn't need too much bailing out in 2001 as Griz won it all that year. And Edwards took over for Miller in 2000 NC game and but for a slight slip by Jimmy Farris on a long pass near the end of the game might have been the only Griz QB to win 2 NC's. The 2002 sprint turf argument is real old. Edwards was hurt and played hurt due to his competitive fire. Coach stood by him which might have been the mistake. Edwards wasn't the passer Drew Miller was but Drew Miller didn't ever take an important snap in the 2nd half of anNC game. Edwards did two years in a row (2000 and 2001).......and it's a "sin" that Glenn didn't use Brandon Neill more to bail out Edwards in 2002?

I'd be more excited about him if he said he were interested in a degree - and mentioned one.. Or that he wanted to be part of something bigger.. All this, "I wanna be on a winner" stuff kind of left me cold. But I'll leave it to Coach and assume he's recruiting for character (to some degree) as well as football talent. Otherwise, this potential transfer is a backup who never rose through the ranks and is looking for Dropdown U. Meh. I hope he proves me wrong and comes in and leads whatever team he plays for to the promised land.

What's funny about that is, I took it the exact opposite. He said "I want to finally be on a winning team". He didn't say anything about expecting to win the starting job or being handed the starting job, or anything else. He just said he wants to go to a winning program. And he was talking about the Griz, and not any of the other schools he plans to contact. I thought that was a huge compliment to UM's program, and, probably a bit of a dis to Kentucky too lol. I liked that one of the reasons he's looking at UM is because he knows the Griz win and want to win even more.
