Portal ruining FCS

Hauck fixed it on 2d season.

I wouldn’t call .500 ball in conference “fixed”. In season 5. He INHERITED a team that had just gone 5-3.

He inherited a team that had missed the playoffs and been ranked 33 or 34. In the past 3 seasons, UM has gone to playoffs and won a game each season. And been ranked an average of no. 10 for those 3 seasons. Definitely fixed. Not dominant yet. A top 5 team last season with a fully healthy qb. Who cares about conf rank compared to that. All losses to playoff teams including 3 seeds and another almost seed. Good job Bobby.

Griz will get there with Bobby, it’s a new frontier with NIL and especially the portal. Going forward will be really tough to produce a dominating team year in year out. Recruiting just got a hell of a lot more difficult. We, no team will know what they got till come August. Just got to be able to keep the key pieces together

Nice to see how much some of the kids are getting!

How many of you are planning to reduce your exposure to college football because of this? I mean beyond UM. This question is more to take temperature than make a point, and a similar debate on the Boise State 24/7 board has been robust, to say the least.

Factor that BSU fans think they lose more than they gain from the portal into your calculation. No doubt there’s a top-down effect to this.

I resist the characterization that the NCAA “let” this happen. There have been lawsuits practically everywhere, and to me, the NCAA sobbing in a fetal position in a corner of an Indianapolis warehouse with a slight rock back and forth was inevitable. Of course they were feckless, because the only room they read were the bastions of amateurism and supporters like some of you here… and not the rest of America.

One thing I should note: we’re talking about a valuation list within the portal, windows for the transfer portal, discussions about moving up and down, etc. Sounds like international soccer- in reality, that means the way most team sports are treated everywhere but in North America. There was always a basis for comparison between these, but it sounds more harmonious now. So when you suggest more business/marketing involvement, sure, Nike folk can teach a few tricks, but in these days of the American non-compete clause and sports cartels and other local oligarchies, methinks your business contacts should know something about actually competing.

Oh, something worth an edit. Scholarships have been year-to-year for a long time. Want people to stick around longer? Make sure a multi-year contract is involved… 2 or 3 will work, you don’t usually get longer than that in Europe. To say you want players to have more loyalty means the school needs to also express that, and that hasn’t always been the case.

New. York. Yankees. The best MLB team money can buy.

While I don't like what's going on, why limit transfers at all at this point. Let them transfer every year. Heck, maybe mid- year too. Heck, let's let every non-team player kid, who thinks he's better than he is or is getting screwed, transfer any day he wants to. Football is all about the player. Who cares about the team?

If there's a great player we need, and he wants NIL money, send him to me. I'll figure out how to get him nice NIL money. He may have to deal with the cheer squad, when I have to reduce their stipend.

Rich get richer as it's always been. If memory serves correctly, it was not the NCAA that demanded NIL (and the portal) but the Supreme Court. These non-profits paying suits millions but the kids who could not even sell their autographs? Screw the lawyers, not the kids.

I'll go watch ball games in Georgia where I can still get a $2.00 hot dog and a $3.00 beer at a game instead of paying $10.00 for a ice filled cup of pepsi in one of the Walton heirs stadiums...

I agree with many point made here. Make the school give the kid a 4 or 5 years contract (scholarship) and then hold them to it.

Hold the school or student to the contract.

FBS scholarships are already 4-5 years.

I just had a player tell me that technically scholarships are semester to semester but it is rare to have a scholarship pulled and if it is they usually let you know when advance and it's usually because you're in trouble or some other probably justified reason

In the dark days before the empire, my scholarships were year to year.

My folks measured the distance between their house and whatever place I was living in terms of Parsecs. Not quite as far as the Kessel Run, but felt just as long.

Am I misreading Twitter or did two MORE NDSU defensive backs enter the portal today?
You're correct.

Dom Jones, a reserve Sophomore safety, and Courtney Eubanks, a starter/backup Junior cornerback.

Also, I guess I was under the impression that NDSU already had an NIL collective, but from reading things from NDSU fans/boosters on twitter, it seems like they actually don't, and that seems to be what people are hinting at being what might be causing the turnover.
