Good article, with very honest quotes by pflugrad. Thanks for posting.

Somewhat off topic question....is there a President's sky box at Wa/Griz? If yes, is Engstrom generally at the games hosting potential donors and distinguished alumni?

President Engstrom attends every home game and hosts a variety of guests in the President's box on the west side above the 50 yard line. Guests include members of the Board of Regents, University administrators and deans, distinguished alumni and that week's recipient of the Community Service Award that he, the Athletic Director and Alumni President, present in the north endzone between the first and second quarters. Fine food and drinks, including beer and wine, are served.

Funny story, my son, his gf, and I sat in 106 for the Poly game and you have to walk right by Engstrom's box to hit the stairs, when we were walking by the gal saw us coming and held the door open like she was expecting us to come in. I guess we looked official or something.

While I expect Pflu will be in the box and not on the field; it would be great to give him a standing "O." Even greater to have a camera on RE when it happened.

When the Griz are up comfortably in the 4th, let's get a Robin Pflugrad chant going in the ol' Montana Grizzlies style 8-)
Like the "Derek Jeter" chant. Priceless.

Yes, there's a presidential box. On the west side near midfield. Assume Engstrom attends most games and entertains, but haven't been there since the Dennison days, so don't know who is invited. Dennison still attends games. Is very knowledgeable about football.
While PR would love it, the crowd in there sucks. No cheering; just idle chit chat by a bunch of suck up snobs. Will decline next invite.

I actually thought the Saudi student thing was going to backfire on him more than it did.

It backFIRED badly on a few others though............

Such as Mehrdad Kia, former Provost of the International Studies Program. The guy is leading an anti Engstrom charge right now. He organized an "outrage meeting" last week for students and faculty over the budget cuts. About 50 people showed up. I wasn't there but was told the press was the majority. not much was reported.

I read this info and post and it just boils the blood. I not a litigious person but I really do hope Robin goes after UM hard for wrongful termination. Robin should sue for his job back and the dismissal of Royce.

I do not see how the courts could not side in Robins favor should he press this.

I can see Royce telling Robin to kick JJ off the team and Robin saying No.
Royce then goes to Jim and says kick JJ off team and remove Robin. Jim tells Royce no to both. Royce in turn removes Robin and Jim.

Royce surely could avoid at least some legal issues if he brought Robin back. Mick retires and Robin brought back. Jim O'Day is a different story. I am certain Kent H wants to keep his AD job.

What's best even is for Royce to go! He has not been a good leader and if anything has harmed UM more than he has done good.

Agreed. He was not without flaw, I think he even admitted that in other articles but Pflu was a good guy who was in the middle of trying to do the right thing and got kicked in the ass for it. Raw deal.

I would love to see him as our coach again someday, although I doubt that'll ever happen.

Especially sad to see that he wanted the UM to be his final career stop. Our fanbase worries so much about this program being a stepping stone and we look at especially our women's hoops team and love the stability there. It would've been nice to have that with a successful football program too.

Yeah the crowd in there is not the "loud and proud" type. But I knew that going in. I was there with a friend and we were definitely the odd men out when it came to making noise. We had the window open so we could hear the roar of the crowd and feel the tempo of the game. We sat in the front row with our beers on the window sill with a kickass 50-yard line view. I thought the food was great and having cold beer served up by cute coeds was pretty awesome. I had a great time visiting with Dean Forbes from the Pharmacy School who is a knowledgeable football fan and President Engstrom was clearly more interested in watching the game than chatting with donors. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Engstrom needs to be fired because not one thing he has attempted has turned out well. Enrollment is down a thousand students and isn't improving. did you read the Missoulian enrollment story this fall? Somehow the reporter misses the fact that in all UM's categorizing of in staters and out of staters new freshman and returnees, UM enrollment only increased by 4 students! And the UM is short $1 million in tuition. And private donations are down a million. And UM now has a vice president of communications who makes more than any UM coach ever did , not to mention most professors pay. UM students now have to watch a video about how to copulate or avoid copulation when appropriate.
This is progress? There's a lot wrong with Engstrom, but as long as people think it's just about football, he's not going anywhere.

The sad reality is that there are a lot of injustices that persist. The guilty work really hard to put them in the rearview mirror and get down the road as far as possible. The only way more information comes out that makes any difference is if it is in a court of law. Otherwise the turds will remain buried -- but reek nonetheless.

Damn, ...did I miss something? I don't remember the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor!!

Great article!

Griz fans who aren’t idiots have known that Coach Pflugrad received a terribly unjust deal from an arrogant megalomaniac University President (Royce Engstrom). Pflugrad was/is a great football coach and recruiter. It is a tragedy that his career at UM was cut short by a pitiful and incompetent University bureaucrat, unconcerned with truth or justice. We can only speculate about Griz accomplishments that were lost by Pflugrad’s unjust firing.

Pflugrad’s support of a fine wrongly accused young man, Jordan Johnson, speaks volumes to his character; and O’Day’s support of Pflugrad, despite Engstrom’s arrogant and inappropriate order to fire Pflugrad, speaks volumes to O’Day’s character.

Pflugrad and O’Day are widely respected at UM, and I wish there was a way to return these highly respected professionals to UM.

On the other hand Engstrom is widely despised and recognized as an arrogant, incompetent bureaucrat who in reality should have been fired. The same goes for Regent Pat Williams, who in my view threw away a respected career, by supporting the incompetent megalomaniac Engstrom.

It may be immature to suggest that Griz fans chant “Fire Engstrom” during Saturday’s game vs. Weber State, but that is what I intend to yell.

FIRE ENGSTROM, FIRE ENGSTROM, FIRE ENGSTROM, FIRE ENGSTROM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pflu loves the Montana program and planned to retire here as head coach. Imagine where our program would be at right now if he were still here. IMO, we owe it to Pflugrad to at least give him a second chance.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. What happens if we make a little noise, pull some strings, talk, gather people, light shit on fire, do whatever we have to do to get Pflugrad back?

The article today spoke volumes about how Pflu feels about where he should be. There has got to be a chance that something can come of this.

You get the right people in the right places and anything can happen. Everybody knows damn well what this football program means to this town and it's well-being, why not do something about ensuring the right person is at the helm?

You have to hand it to Engstrom, in one swell foop he showed who's the boss -- and why he is not qualified to the boss. Quite efficient really.
