Okay, this is what I am hearing from D players

Most had us losing to EWU handily
Huh? You're talking to a different group than I am; my group had it as a tossup; big question marks on both sides. If an edge, to UM at home. Baldwin, top 3 receivers gone, two blowout losses, etc. I heard no one that expected EWU to roll handily.

That was before Reese went down, heard a lot of talk about losing his leadership and how that would hurt more than his QB play. More starting leaning towards EWU beating the Griz by a wider margin than before Reese went down. Not YOU in particular, but a lot.

Oh I didn't say I like it how it is run currently...as much as if run properly it is an effective play for the exact reasons he likes to use it. And then people get on here, complain about it, and then say the exact things that caused the Griz defense to get winded. It's so irritating. I'd be for it being blocked better, getting 4-15 yards per, much like EWU did.
I wish I had a dollar for every post on here pissing and moaning about the bubble screen, but now that EWU had success with it, they're f***[*] geniuses. Like any other play, it's a matter of execution. EWU executed better and UM didn't adjust.
EWU had far more success with simple swing passes than bubble screens, exploiting our soft zone coverage. Their green HC is capable of taking what the defense gives.

As for UM and bubble screens, if you can't execute it successfully, find something you can.

The problem when UM runs those swing passes and bubble screens is that our WR's have a real hard time blocking down the field. EWU WR's did an excellent job blocking down field. That's the difference between the two teams running those two plays.
They also appear to be able to hold better without getting flagged.

Gubrud on the screens being open in the second half:

“I wasn’t surprised that was open,” Gubrud said. “Our receivers are exceptionally good blockers on the edge and they do a great job of making people miss. You get three against three over there, you theoretically only have to make one guy miss if everyone blocks it. It’s a numbers game for us. If they are going to overload the box, we are going to put it outside and make you run.”

Eagles ignore missed chances, pile up 2nd half points

Again...anyone else have that theory? Oh wait...if Stitt wants to do it, it's a garbage play...that's right
Compare Stitt's level of success on bubble screens to EWUs. Do his wide receivers get blocks? First series against EWU: 6 yards on first down. Bubble screen - incomplete. Bubble screen - incomplete. Punt. It's been well scouted by now and easy to defend because we don't get the blocks on the perimeter. Someone will gamble, overplay it, and turn it into a pick 6 risk. But you like it....

It amazes me people still do not get that just because a bubble screen is run does not mean that was the play called. Jensen has the option on every play to check into something else, run or pass. Do you ever consider how the outside receivers get open downfield regularly, and how bubble screens help make that happen? Would that happen if other DC's didn't walk up their CB's to try to pick 6? If our D was as good at tackling in the second half as the first the points would not have come so easy for EWU.

BTW, what I noticed is their defensive backs seemed faster than our receivers (ran them down before scoring) and our DB's didn't seem to run any of their receivers down.

It may be a good time for the coaching staff to work with their tight ends to improve blocking on the bubble screens and swing passes.

....another problem with Stitt being the OC...most of the time hes side track with next series of
play calling instead of steering the ship...if you look at most HC they have their hands on the wheel and are able to make adjustments with the coordinators...I guess he needs to decide if he wants to be HC or OC because there is a huge problem with adjustments..

Pfft - ya, you might want to check the EWU predictions thread. I'm thinking probably 90% of you picked the Griz over EWU.

Because our Special Teams coach is as bad as our D coordinator. Same frickin kick off return 9 straight times to the exact same spot on the field every time. At this point I would be happy to see the "Globe of Death" for a change.

Not blaming refs but seemed EWU got away with a few PI's during that game. The late 4th down PI against Griz on ball probably thrown where it would never be caught was huge. Watched that one closely....probably a foul but no worse than several that could have been called on EWU. Some of those excellent EWU WR blocks looked a little "grabby" too but was also frustrating Griz didn't shed them very well.

His play calling and offense is what got him the job, same goes for Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma. If your offensive innovation and play calling is the reason you have the job that you do, why would you pivot from doing it? Just a thought.

Am sure the kickoff returners would agree with you. Didn’t see many WEWU starters on ST’s. ST coach is the linebackers coach as well, what do you suppose gets the majority of his attention. Not putting this entirely on him, just seems odd we’re in year 3 & the only coach missing is another receivers coach.

Never mind, there are 20 plus guys on the team playing receiver, span of control has to be an issue.’

Glad to hear I am not the only one that noticed that... I thought maybe it was Groundhog Day......

The arguments from certain posters that an extra safety could have been brought in....playing in nickel more. This seems like a good argument as Simms, Shaw, and Davidson had the run stuffed.

But that was 10 days ago. Now EWU is really good.

We probably could have snuck an extra man onto the field for a play here or there, but ultimately not worth the penalty risk. It's a good thought, though...
