Offensive Coaching Changes

I always stay with Governor Dutton at the Chief Joseph. I do try to steer clear of Beth's husband though. He threated a stop at the train station if I didn't straighten up.

I think steering clear of Beth is the most critical "must do."

Good for you. It’s just changed a shitload since I grew up there…and not in any good way.

I think Missoula is great. My wife and I love it. Missoula is on top of its game these days. Lots of fun and good people. Yup, housing is expensive. The football team is returning to dominance. The men's and women's basketball teams are showing signs of life.

100% believable. I know plenty of people that live in Missoula, and Montana for reasons other than money. They could make far more in other states but choose Missoula. I;m amazed you think otherwise. Missoula is the last best place. Why wouldn't he want to live here? Money doesn't motivate everybody, although it sounds like it does you. I freely admit, it does me too. lol

And I have no love for Pease. I've interacted with him directly while he was a student, and we almost came to blows because I told him what he was doing what not cool, and that he could hurt someone. He offered to go at me, but bouncers grabbed him, escorted him out, and told him to chill or his coaches would know.

Sounds like a typical Friday night.

Seriously though...I don't know if it is good or bad to have so very few coaches seeking to climb. While this may provide exceptional experience, might it also provide a lack of fire. That may be the essence of 75s post above.

I guess I'd prefer to have to worry about losing coaches every year because they are seen as "hot" commodities by bigger schools.

I can see your point to some extent, but I don't see any UM coaches who lack fire. There's also an argument that having coaches who have already achieved and learned a lot are very beneficial to the program.

What do you think an assistant coach who wants to move up does differently in coaching the team (other than taking the time to look for other jobs)?

Do you really think that a coach like Justin Green, who could have gone to many places at virtually any time, including now, is somehow not doing his job or lacks fire. I sure don't. UM is lucky to have him.

That's a perfect illustration of the transparent smug attitude by the condescending Missoula elites that is so special to visiting Griz fans and alumni as we're leaving our money for overpriced accommodations. After all, it is the University of Missoula, correct?

It’s not the price of housing that’s the issue…it’s the turning of every business and building that’s not nailed down into a Lucky Lil’s casino/cannibus dispensary. And the traffic, driven by moronic decisions being made by the moronic local government. The Griz are about the only mitigating factor to Missoula being completely off my visitation rotation. Even if I DO fly into there, I immediately get in my rental car and vacate the valley/county.

We go to every home game and the best part of the weekend, other than the game, is getting out of town Sunday morning.

So what areas near Missoula do you still consider worthy of consideration as "the last best place"?
Near Missoula is the killer. Beartooth mountains, Yellowstone. God's country.

I didn't coin the term, but if you're asking where I personally would live, I'd choose Rock Creek/Bearmouth area, or Blackfoot up by Ovando. Nothing wrong with up Evaro Hill, out by Alberton, Lolo Creek, Blue Mountain or even parts of the Bitterroot. Having lived and traveled in over 30 countries, and all 50 states - there is nothing to compare to Western Montana, especially here in Wyoming.

Strange because off top of my head, I cant think of one casino I've been to or seen in Missoula in years. Is the Pressbox still open? I drive by there at times, but never look.

I'd take Missoula over anyplace in Texas. The only thing Texas has going for it is no State Income Tax. Humidty in the east, desert heat and wind in the west, sagebrush in the south, and tornados in the north. No real mountains. Rain in the east floods you out. Oh I forgot, Poteet is great. Best strawberries anywhere.

I also like Western NC, Oregon Coast and Alaska Inside Passage.

Bwahahahaha….. is this true because Bobbee tells you so? Must be a 10 year plan.

Huh?

Man, I like Missoula. Fun town. I was glad to see so many new (to me) establishments downtown last time I was there. I guess I didn't notice any increases in casinos from when I lived there. I wasn't searching for dispensaries. I suppose they've been legal for so long where I live that I don't really notice them? Who knows?

I honestly don't know. But, you have to admit during the Griz glory days they had coaches who were coveted by bigger programs - including BH. That's my only point.

I really don't remember how many coaches were coveted during the glory years. Yes, that is different. There are advantages to having young up and comers. I believe there are advantages to having very experience and accomplished coaches too.

Roughly 1995 to 2006 - Denney, Glenn, Hauck...all coveted and moved up.

I believe Pflu would have also been coveted...won't rehash that shit show.

Okay, but I was thinking of assistant coaches, which is what I thought you meant and what we were discussing. And, Hauck was asked by San Diego St to come back as head coach after he had returned to MT. So, he was still coveted.

Yes...both..HC and assistants matter in this regard.

Two of the things I miss most about Missoula. You trying to make me homesick?

I have lived and worked in Missoula since 1983, and was here previously while in college. Can't imagine living anywhere else. I recognize all the complaints some of you make -- high housing prices, traffic on Reserve, etc. -- and don't really disagree with most of you, but no place is perfect. My kids, who both have advanced degrees and great jobs, gave up "better" jobs in Washington to move back to Missoula. I do have a vacation place in central Montana, where I grew up, but that's simply a place of respite. Missoula is where I live and thrive, since I first arrived here in 1964.
