He's a great guy and a very caring person. Pflugrad also seemed to be a guy who really cared about his players. Good people get fired everyday and a lot of times its from things that they can't control but that they are ultimatly responsible for. When you are in a leadership position that is just part of the job. I haven't seen anything that Engstrom has done wrong yet and I'm curiously awaiting on more information of why termination was deemed the appropriate decision for Jim and Robin. Bottom line though is that Jim is the point of leadership of the AD and Robin is the point of leadership of the football program and there are issues that are damaging enough to warrant drastic measures. Anyways, despite all of this I hope that all decisions that are being made are being done in the best interest of the University and the football program. I believe that they probably are.
I don't think anyone is doubting they're "good guys", but I think you answered your own question.
That's not what really what I was stabbing at. I think people need to calm down on their opinions on Engstrom until all the facts come out. Regardless though, I have full confidence that the decisions made are being made in the best interest of the University and not out of some conspiracy passing the blame onto somebody else. People need to calm down and realize that if we continued down the same path we were going down that we might get to a place where the damage would take years to recover from.
EverettGriz said:Suggesting that President Engstrom is somehow culpable or responsible for the actions taken by these student-athletes is as ridiculous and irresponsible as saying he's responsible when Katie Jones fails a chem exam. President Engstrom took decisive action -- I'll leave it to others to argue about the merits of such action -- by terminating those who ARE responsible -- at least theoretically -- for oversight of student-athlete activity.

I can't believe how tiny and meaningless your little town is. They can only find news by going reporting on Missoula, MT? How provincial. haha
National Sports news...also on Sports Network, and ESPN...sorry, the sad fact is, that events of this magnitude, coming from a very small and small minded community, reflect more on that community than you know. The fact that UM, a powerhouse on the small college scene, academically respected worldwide because of the successes of its alumni and its programs, might not be your particular interest, but speaks volumes about the state of college athletics, especially in a must win, yes, small town, atmosphere. World Cities, like LA, are made up of former residents of places like Montana. Just because you hate LA or Calif or anywhere else, is not going to change that..in fact, it says more about you.crackgina said:GrizLA said:Wow...UM made the top news of the hour in Los Angeles! I think we are already at a place where it will take at least a couple of years to recover from. People tend to be loyal to their friends, co-workers, bosses, teammates, coaches, etc... There is going to be a lot more blood letting than just Pflu and O'Day. There will be an exodus of coaches and players, and it is way too late to play catch up for the coming season, which will snowball into the next.HighLineGRIZ said:AZGrizFan said:HighLineGRIZ said:Think people need to calm down and let all the facts come out before they call for more firings. I am pretty sure Hauck started assigning a lawyer to each new recruit and it carried over to Pflus regime....so JJ probably had his for a few years........................
Nice.

This criminal culture has been created by Bobby Hauck in his efforts to win-at-all-costs, so that he could realize his dream to coach the big boys. It has continued under O'Day and Phlu, and perhaps has even escalated. O'Day should have fired Hauck after several of the criminal acts were committed, then swept under the rug by Hauck."
I can say in my five years playing under Hauck there was not a "criminal culture," far from it actually. He was a hard lined coach who liked to handle things in house. People may not like that approach, but that's the way it was. Players did get in trouble and in some cases arrested, but to think that Hauck fostered this kind of behavior is a misrepresentation of his tenure. I can tell you from experience that if you got in any kind of trouble Hauck would deal with it swiftly, but preferably in house. A lot can be said about Bobby, but soft on troublemakers is something I would never say.
I know Growlers type. Every sports program has your type. You've never played but think you can. You've never coached but think you should. And because of your poor pathetic life, you believe this gives you a the right to spout off about what you don't know. I feel sorry for you and your type. It's really pathetic.Growler1 said:Fortpeckgriz said:I don't get this quote by Growler1 "The axe fell, my friends, and it was over-due! So, Hauck didn't take take any player kicked off his IA team? Come on, dude! He recruited kids with very questionable character. And, your "handle it in house" mantra is just another way of saying "swept it under the rug". We all remember the Tru Johnson bitch-beating, which Hauck tried to say never happended.
