I understand what he said , I was curious ad to his thoughts on " why did the FBS start going to a playoff system ". Couldn't they have just stayed with the status quo ( bowl games for everyone and a selection committee ) since bowl games are so meaningful?
My interpretation is simply that he wasn't saying something intended to give that impression/ make that a meaningful argument. The bowl games being more meaningful (in his view) than a FCS playoff has nothing to do with the bowl games being more or less meaningful than a FBS playoff.

Obviously a lot of fans wanted the FBS playoff to make a "real" champion. For the record I'm not sure the FBS playoff was a total win from the fan perspective. I've gotten tired of the ESPN talking heads being all playoff all year, rather than talking about the conference races. Regionalism is what makes college football great, IMO.

My opinion is , The fcs playoff system although not perfect is better than what the fbs is doing now . You could still have conferance championship a fcs style playoff . Along with a few meaningless bowl games . Happy all the way around maybe !!!???

We tend to embellish the FCS playoff system, because that's all we have. It doesn't draw; it has spotty TV coverage and is a large money loser. It's not so hot.

I like the FCS system of course. I probably like it better than the current FBS, though both have their pros and cons. I think the FBS would be greatly enhanced by the conference champs getting auto-bids (at least the P5 champs), which would then shift more of the annual convo back to the conference races and put back more weight on conference championships.

So do we embellish the NFL, NBA, Hockey, now NASCAR ?
Do you think a true FBS playoff system with conference champs getting the auto bid would have tv troubles ?

I agree with everything you just posted Berkley.

Since you two are so joined at the hip on this issue, I'm curious how many FCS playoff games you have attended.

I would imagine (hope) you've been to more, seeing as I'm still new-ish to the FCS scene, having come here via employment, not degree. I'll be at most if not all Griz playoff games in the future. I obviously can't speak for TCC, but how many playoff games he's been able to attend has no bearing on whether he (and I) view the setup as good or not, so I'm not sure what connection your post/ question was trying to make.

Maybe you clowns can compare an apple to an orange next. Dumb Comparison. I will wait for the delicious banter and salient points you have to offer next OR will fall asleep. Please God let there be football this fall. I don’t think I can read too many more of these type of posts.

I hope you can make it through this, I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

So actually experiencing FCS playoff games is irrelevant. Thought so.

Eh? I've loved all the ones I've been to. Have you not?

Not all, and I've been to many and not all at Missoula. Playing teams you've never heard of on a week's notice, poor crowds, many mismatches are all weak points for the playoffs. They make no money for the University. There are, of course, some great ones, but as I started the conversation, we tend to embellish the FCS playoffs because that's all we have.

and you complain about others being repetitive... all you post is "whine whine whine, i'm better than you, whine whine whine". there, i wrote it down for you, so now you can just copy and paste, saving energy to whine about things in other settings.

Yeah, that's rich. This discussion actually relates to Griz Football and the FCS. You're out of your element; you need to get back to the covid thread where the real whining is and help finish page 122. A little more whining about China will fill out the day.

That's a completely fair point, and I don't mean to glorify the FCS; both FCS and FBS have their pros and cons. I may be a bit biased in some ways, as I grew up in a small but football-loving town, and to be honest I really enjoy the "smaller" atmosphere at times, where's it's just a bunch of people who really love their team (even ones I've hardly heard of) and not much of the extra show and BS that comes with being a primetime game where it takes hours to find parking, hours to leave after, and media timeouts constantly interrupt the flow of the game.

Some of it for me is also admittedly FBS fatigue. My degrees came from three P5 schools, and I've gotten annoyed with seeing the P5 increasingly become a NFL-Lite that add geographically or competitively nonsense members for the sake of media money while saying "too fucking bad" to the loss of long-standing regional rivalries that made the sport so great.

Again, obviously the FBS has some great aspects. Those big-time games can be a lot of fun, the atmosphere at some stadiums incredible. Not denying that. I just enjoy both the FCS and FBS for their own strengths, and like that they're so different.
