No one knows where people are getting infected

Well, my absolute Hero is California Governor Newsom. Not only is he the Governor, but he is also a SUPER Virologist that has identified the virus is a "High School or College" type partying virus that sleeps all day and only comes out at night. Whew, thank God I am past the partying phase.

Between avoiding the active times for the virus, avoiding having more than 10 people around me, because 11 is the kicker, and of course making sure to wear a mask between bites, I think I'm going to be A-okay.

I do wish someday to be real rich so I can eat in fancy restaurants right next to people and not wear a mask. The virus isn't attracted to rich people. When I'm rich, I'll make sure to build a giant house on the Coast and change my voter registration to Liberal so the "Global Warming" doesn't flood my house. Whew! Without all these Leftist Dictators, I don't know if I could breathe on my own!

Thanks, Gubner!

Now, if it all goes wrong, I can always go smoke some legal Meth and Crack in Oregon!

POTY Nominee/Winner.

My intention is not to be rude, so forgive me if it appears that way.

But there is a ridiculous amount of fail in this post.

Please outline it then. The only thing I can see is that he missed “Fifth”.

Well that, and not EVERY person has been over 70. Only 97.6% of the deaths (ok, I made that number up).

And which age demographic is the most vocally anti-mask, etc. because "muh liberdies"? I wish more at-risk people would stop being selfish and stay at home where they don't have to wear masks. Two birds.

Your example of people being at work - wearing a mask - and then socializing with friends without a mask further proves the point, because the infected person within the social group inevitable caught the virus while at a public location where masks were required. After all, that is the basic definition of community spread.

...

Actually, no That doesn't prove your point at all. It only proves that the infected person may have caught it somewhere else without a mask or maybe wearing a mask but NOT socially distancing himself by 6 feet or more.

A mask AND socially distancing at least 6 feet is very effective at reducing the spread. And has been shown to be very effective. Problem is, people are not following that guideline.

You do realize the mask is not to protect you, but protect other people from you, right? I have seen very many studies about this and those studies were duplicated with same result. The mask reduces the distance that your breath goes. A double layered cloth reduces the distance less than 6 feet. Therefore, a double layered cloth mask and stay at least 6 feet, it is very effective.

The moral of the story, stay away from all in door places with poor ventilation, Grocery stores, restaurants, bars, and casinos where you can't social distance. Those places are bad places to be, especially for employees that have to work in those places.

If you have data showing that the mask mandates have reduced the spread, please share it.

You are right about the "moral of the story," staying at home has shown to reduce the spread.

Masks are BS. Having contracted covid at a restaurant/bar having tacos, along with 3 others in the group, here's what I learned. The waitress was asymptomatic but came down with symptoms the next day. 3 of us came down with symptoms two days later. 3 of us who got sick were drinking canned beer. The other was served a mixed drink in a red solo cup. The other 10 with us who did not get sick all drank mixed drinks or water from glassware that had been dipped in the disinfectant rinse. My conclusion is the rinse provided protection or killed the virus long after it had dried. Given that the waitress was the only one wearing a mask, I conclude her touching an infected mask regularly is what put the virus on our beer cans and red solo cup. If she hadn't been wearing a mask her hands may have stayed covid free. Masks on an infected person are just super concentrators of the virus. Therefore, covid doesn't kill people, masked people kill people. Thus ends the anecdotal report.

Here is one case showing that masks work. There are likely other cases. At least, in this case, the 2 infected salon workers and all their clients were following mask wearing guidelines unlike any study you have provided. How the salon workers were infected doesn't matter in this case. The fact that not one of their clients were infected by the 2 infected salon workers do, showing wearing masks helps with preventing an infected wearer spread it other people.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6928e2.htm

Now, you really need to show data that proves masks do not work. The link you provided shows absolutely nothing except how well people will follow the guidelines. Don't bother with the one by Duke university, there are issues with that.

Thanks! But if I win, I would like to donate all the cash to the Liberal Governors' Brain Function Fund, to benefit the less fortunate Governors in WA, OR, CA, IL, NY and NJ. I'm certainly not a Neurosurgeon, but whatever they have makes Covid look like a sniffle.

Might I add PA to your list? They just banned alcohol sales through thanksgiving.

Yep, and if I was a bar owner, I would be advertising as being open during the ban.

I wonder how many would have gotten sick from any droplets, mist, or errant spit that may have come from the waitress had she not been wearing a mask? So maybe, just maybe, it saved the other 10...but the moral of the story, drink from sanitized glassware, it is the savior.

If the waitress didn't wear a mask, the entire restaurant would have been infected and the 10 that didn't get sick would have come down with the virus. Therefore, the mask reduced the spread by at least 10.

It appears that the waitress did part of what she was supposed to do, but one thing she must not have done was WASH HER HANDS. You have wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet away, and wash your hands. Take one of those 3 thrings away, and you increase the odds of spreading it. And it is a big reason it spreading so fast and out of control.

Obesity has zero to do with South Korea's success. https://undark.org/2020/10/05/south-korea-covid-19-success/

For South Korea along with Japan, this isn't their first viral rodeo. They know how to deal with Covid from experience & are winning the battle so far. They took a different route from Japan & placed their focus on contact tracing. Overall, South Korea, a country of roughly 52 million — about six times smaller than the U.S. population — has had more than 300 times fewer cases than the U.S. You can argue that this level of contract tracing is invasion of privacy and some in South Korea do as well, but you can't argue with their results compared to ours. South Korea isn't screwing around with politics or Covid. They have a plan, leadership and results.

Agree with the helpful cultural norms. They are also a far more healthy society than we are.

Life expectancy in S Korea is close to 83 years.

Life expectancy in US is close to 79 years.

Health overall in their general population does indeed make a big difference.

Perhaps, but health doesn't make up for 300% more cases than South Korea has. It will be interesting to see next time, when given the choice of beating a virus that excludes a shut down in trade of ''big brother' privacy issues, what the conservative side of the isle will choose. I'm truly amazed that 257k deaths (and climbing) is acceptable, and that leading the world in deaths somehow ok.

All I know is all of you Fu@ker$ living in the Last Best Place better make damn sure Griz Granny doesn't get the COVID.

Seriously - keep her locked with plenty of alcohol of her choosing.

First, no country knows how many citizens have had covid, only how many tests are positive. Second, test failure rates are off the chart so even those numbers are suspect. Given the asymptomatic rate for positives average close to 30%, and even higher in the young and healthy, we are way farther along to herd immunity than can be measured. Third, if you believe infection data from authoritarian regimes i have bridges and beachfront at special prices for you. Fourt, evdry person in our county that has died was over 70 and in extremely poor health. Our 104 year old still active on the ranch came through his infection with mild symptoms. Sixth, I've been in the orient and they don't have obesity or diabetes like the good old US. Read the stats on comorbidites and death. Then try thinking about what is true, not agenda opinions. This virus is only doing what viruses do.

First, what the actual fuck? Second, no, you don't get to question failure rates and then claim herd immunity is in reach. Third, when exactly did South Korea and Japan, our allies, become authoritarian regimes? Fourth, what? Remind me to send easy reader books to your county. Fifth, you forgot fifth altogether, so I'll give you fifth as it was the only coherent point you made. Sixth, "this virus is only doing what viruses do" is what you say when you don't have a plan. The point is....wait for it.....South Korea and Japan, our allies, had plans that are working. 300 times (not percent) better than our lockdowns and handouts.

I say; order your own bottle and drink away. To go a step farther, buy a bottle from the liquor store and drink it on your front porch, while watching your favorite replay on Pluto.
