No one knows where people are getting infected

If we step back from political rhetoric and look at it objectively, you would see that you can have an economy and public safety. We fell behind on testing and tracing and when we had the opportunity to catch up with the initial lock down, we didn't take advantage. Instead of a strong central response, our states were left to compete against each other. It is multi pronged approach. Masks, distancing and hygiene are what we all can do as individuals. It is not much of a sacrifice compared to what our parents and grandparents dealt with with the great depression and WWII. The other parts we need are rapid tests and aggressive contact tracing to isolate breakouts. Unfortunately, both sides politicized it early and we are in a bad place. The vaccine will not be of any benefit unless enough people take part. The scientific method works and has stood the test of time. It is what should lead our decisions. We should invest our money in implementing the testing and tracing instead of throwing money at people.

Holy SHIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!! A well-reasoned, intelligent post on eGriz regarding issue!!!

FIFY

The speech disorder card? That’s the best you can do? Good stuff man. Really well reasoned. Just keep saying that health care bill will be here in 2 weeks. Sounds good to me.

This post is a home run.
Agreed, ,home run. And.....we should prepare for the next virus so we don't repeat the same mistakes. Japan has 1874 deaths to date. They didn't shut down their economy, they shut down their airports, traced the disease, and they wear masks. A friend teaches at a university in Osaka & reports her students wear masks to cover zits. They wear them all the time in subways, etc. It's an accepted part of their culture because they understand through experience that they help prevent the spread of disease. Japan is the size of MT and has 1/3 of the US population. They have our constitution too. As a society they're healthier than we are & in the last 20 years they've fought in no particular order Mers, Sars, Avian Flu, and a few others - successfully. Until we're all on the same page, we're going to see a lot more death and damage. Hopefully we can learn and prepare for the next one. I wonder if we'll start seeing public information spots on this in an attempt to change perception? For the record, I know at least one person over the last 6 days contracting Covid. My family's had 3 cases since summer, all recovered, one with lingering eye issues.

I think we know right? It’s gotta be just bars and restaurants right? Not during the day of course. But after 10pm is where the virus REALLY spreads....

I mean being asshole to asshole tight in bars doesnt help. Go anywhere in North or South Dakota right now and thats what you see, and surprisingly theyre about the worst place in the country right now.

Highest mortality rate in the world.

Wife and I both tested positive today. I work in the medical field and my circle kept getting smaller until here we are. Symptoms change throughout the day. At times it feels like a mild sinus infection. At night, I can't talk without coughing. Oxygen levels still good, but I to shut down my practice for the time being. The headache is what is neverending right now.

Stay well, GAW. It's bad shit.

hope you and your wife get better quickly, grizatwork!

Thank you. We appreciate the well wishes. Everyone be careful. We did everything right a still caught it. Only did work and home. We didn't eat out or go to bars. Working in medical field, I knew I was at risk. But I have been in the field for 27 years and have known the whole time that I am exposed to more things than most people. I am also aware that thus is like not the last pandemic of my career or lifetime. We need to learn from this and stay prepared.

Well I don't think PR is following his own constant advice about doing research before posting. I have a suggestion. Where are people getting infected you ask? Why don't about four of you idiots get in a nice warm car, windows up with no airflow and take a little road trip. Passing through Lake County have lunch and a few drinks in Polson. Then head up to the Flathead Valley. A nice trip up the trapline to the bars in Coram and Hungry Horse should be a good start. Don't worry about masks - you might be shot if you wore one in. Glad hand, tell dirty jokes and buy the locals lots of drinks so they get slobbery and hug you. From there you can try the Remington in Whitefish and Scotties in Kalispell. Be sure and cuddle up at night in your motel room close together. Then head to Sanders County and hit a few bars. Then off to Hamilton, Stevensville and your favorite Bitterroot haunts. Then just come home and wait a few days. There is a good chance you will find an answer to your question of where people are getting infected. That's what I call research boys, get after it.

Sounds like a terrific road trip. I’m in! Who’s with me??

Seriously? Care to retract some of your earlier posts now? I've lost many former colleagues and friends.
Not at all. What would you like me to retract? I never said the virus isn’t real. I never claimed I wouldn’t get it. Lol.

Sorry you’ve lost so many friends. That’s seems to be very unlucky.

No shit. i know about 150 people who’ve had it. I’m batting 1,000 so far. He must hang with some very unhealthy folks.

They also don’t have nearly the obesity/diabetes/heart issues we have in this country...GIGANTIC risk factors for COVID...that might have a tad bit to do with the death rates...about 85% of the deaths have comorbidities associated with their deaths. Still listed as a COVID death though!!! Gotta pump those numbers up to keep the fear porn going....

You look at the world and US graphs for new cases and it's obvious that we have no f###[#] clue how to curb the growth/spread of this virus. All our hand wringing (and washing), masks, social distance and economic destruction barely put a f###[#] DENT in the growth rate of this virus. At the end of the day, "virus gonna virus" until it's all burned out.

And yet we continue to make the same, stupid mistakes that were being made in April, May & June, shutting down, locking up, etc., etc. It's like the definition of stupidity.

I agree! Let’s all just sit back and watch as it kills hundreds of thousands and just think to ourselves. “MEH, Nothing we could do, or even TRY to do anyways”. No longer confuses me how a man who had a health care plan “2 weeks away” for 4 years was elected president. Holy shit the levels of pure ignorance.

The only thing dumber than that is to do the SAME things that didn’t work the first time. But hey, TWO WEEKS to flatten the curve, amirite???? Take your “ignorance” and shove it up your ass. Maybe that’ll help cure whatever ails you.

Oh yeah. You are sooooooo right. I mean nobody disobeyed the first time around right? Like nobody would do such a shitty thing....I mean it’s not like the president openly told people he wasn’t going to wear a mask and constantly told the people it was no big deal.......Oh wait... 😒

Well hopefully people adhere to the precautions so it isn't the SAME thing that didn't work the first time.

Why argue about a virus that’s killed over 500 Montana people? We need to take every precaution and minimize additional deaths. This is a monster virus that has raised havoc worldwide. I pray God will bring it to an end.

Well put. Doing fine dodging the bug for months. However the virus has found our circle of fam and friends. One death, one on vent and some plain sick and exhausted.

Trying to be careful but this virus seems to have no bounds. Perhaps the worst of it is that Covid has exposed us all physically, culturally and sadly politically.

Good idea. Maybe the CDC should use it's budget on infectious diseases instead of a war on vaping and a Hollywood liason among other spending that has zero to do with their actual mission. https://reason.com/2020/05/13/mission-creep-and-wasteful-spending-left-the-cdc-unprepared-for-an-actual-public-health-crisis/

When the shutdowns first started, our governor initially ordered everyone over 65 to stay at home. That only lasted for a few hours until enough people cried ageism and he changed it to everyone. We've gone back and forth a few times, moved the restriction metric goalposts a few times, and I know there are issues with restrictions based on age, etc. But I wonder what would be different now if that initial order was upheld and still in place.
A few guesses for starters:
We would have a fully depressed economy.
We would have more businesses fail with skyrocketing unemployment.
We would have an increase in depression, divorces, civic unrest and suicides.
We would have further regression in our education effectiveness.

These things matter, too.

You think all that would happen if only those 65 and older were asked to stay home?

I would think that a lot would be retired or near retirement. Everyone else, take precautions and go about your business. Idk many 65+ year olds who are involved in the education field. In fact, I think I disagree with every one of your points. Are you sure you understood my post?
