Montana receives commit from San Clamente (CA) LB

here is what i think,,,,in order to get this kind of talent, i would bet that he was promised an opportunity to play right away,,,with our talent at line backer, i think he would play safety as a true freshman,,,,with his talent he could play just about anywhere including the skill positions....imo...what a get....

This makes sense. Would love him as a hard hitting SS with Hermy next to him at Free!

I think that's a possibility. And with that speed, he'd be a beast at SS. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Imagine a defensive backfield of:

LB: Tripp/Coyle/Kanongata'a/Kose
CB Rotation: Frank, Murray/Harris
SS Rotation: Lebsock/Gamboa
FS: Hermanson

And that doesn't even include rotation guys like Timmer, Stuberg, Richards, Owen, Tuliaupupu, Pateman, Miles, Whited, Rominger, Gratton or Tully.

Suddenly an area of concern is now an area of depth...

We need ONE drop down or JC lock down corner and we're SET.

I agree, AZ. I'm not huge on JC guys, but I'd love to see a lock-down corner come in and mix with that group. :thumb:

I did make ONE mistatement in that post of mine:

WE DON'T HAVE TO IMAGINE THAT DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

he isn't getting recruited by any schools "better" than UM so I doubt the play early card was the deciding factor between UM, EWU, and SAC. He would play much earlier at the schools mentioned. Now, if he had offers from Nevada and Fresno State I would agree that he probably chose Montana to play early and a position change may be in the works.

This kid is barely being recruited by Division I schools (God knows why not). Remember that Montana was the first school to offer Gamboa. We are competing with EWU and SAC. I don't think we have to promise this kid playing time to get him to choose us over them.

Have to throw in my two cents...watched the video last night...got up for work in the early A.M., watched it one more time, brought it up at work and then read it in the paper...this kid is a flat out missle...Its hard for highschool film to capture innate skill, not the case with Gamboa. The talent is obvious, been a long time since a thread has blown up on an individual recruit. This kid is Colt Anderson in his senior year. He's gotta transition to safety...watch out Big Sky offenses!!!!

My understanding is Timmer is a very longshot to make it back from his injury.

Who told you that about Timmer?

A few weeks ago someone mentioned that Tuliaupupu gained some weight and was converted to a lineman.

This kids going to put on some more weight once he's in the program. No way he plays safety!

What's wrong with having a 220 - 230 Lbs LB who's very fast? Nothing that I can think of......

PR, Not going to say who, but it is someone that would be in the know. Sounds like he is still having trouble with his knees.

Yes, his knee still isn't good enough to play at full speed. However, he had been practicing and participating in some drills late in the season. He was with the team at SHS. While it's true that he may not ever get back, he's planning to return and I think he'll probably get there. I know him well, talk to him fairly often, and am friends with his family. To my knowledge, describing his return as a "very longshot" is not accurate. His chances are better than that.

Good to hear.

PR, I do know that Ty is doing everything he can to get healthy and get back. But I also know that he is still having difficulties with the knee to the point that he is nowhere close. I understand that he could be back down the road, but as of right now, I would consider it a longshot.

What you just said is not the same as saying he has a "very longshot" of getting back.

He was practicing at the end of the season and doing many drills. I don't believe that is consistent with "nowhere close".

My information comes directly from him. I talked to him about this in person several weeks ago. I have known Timmer his entire life. I have also talked to his family about this subject. Think what you want, but your initial post on the subject was not accurate. Like I said, he may not get back, but he has made progress and has more than a longshot chance.
