This is like :dead: . The Griz are in the playoffs no matter what now. Conference record doesn't matter. It's the overall record, and there are not enough teams in the top 25 that will have a better record than the Griz to keep them out.
But it still doesn't.stubbins said:It's not so much about the scats, as it is about suu result. Then a win or loss against the scats wouldn't have mattered.

All SUU did was make it easier for them to make it in over the Cats.
Win or lose, UM is in the playoffs.
Period.
This. Conference standings do nothing but determine the AQ's. After that, it's overall records. Anyway, that's how it's been in the past. Even if the Griz were to lose (which I don't think is going to happen), I can't image the NCAA bypassing the 9-3 record and the good crowd(s) they would get for playoff game(s) at Montana.Eriul said:They won't look at our standings in conference when deciding which teams get in.
Potomac Griz said:True the conference record really doesn't matter. I also agree that the Griz always drawing well probably does help...even if the committee doesn't want to admit it. However if we end up with 5 teams from the Big Sky that have good arguments for being included in the tournament (if SUU and the Cats win) who gets left out?
I agree with Havgrizfan earlier that they won't take 5 teams from the Big Sky.
Now don't get me wrong... I think it's unlikely the Griz will be left out. I'm bolding that part because people will jump my shit for even hinting about it making it sound like I think the Griz will be left out. I don't think they'll be left out! I'm just saying that it is a slight possibility and the best way to make sure that doesn't happen is to beat the Cats![]()
How is it a possibility?
EWU is in of course.
SUU would be 9-3 with 1 FBS loss, an FBS win and a win over the Cats.
NAU would be 8-3 with an FBS loss and a win over the Griz and a win over SUU.
MSU would be 8-4 with an FBS loss, a win over the Griz, and a win over NAU.
The Griz would be 9-3 with no FBS win or loss, no wins over "top" teams, and the best win being over Cal Poly.
Who gets left out? I don't think there's a chance in hell they take all 5 Big Sky teams. So lets say they take 4 (it's possible the only take 3!). SUU and EWU get in. That leaves 2 slots left for NAU/MSU/Griz Which one of those 3 gets the snub?
If I had to guess, I'd guess MSU. Their bad loss to SFA might be a killer for them. Combine that with their blowout loss to EWU and losing at home to SUU and you have a team that finished the season on a down note.
We do have to remember the committee sometimes makes decisions that make people wonder WTF though.... Like NAU's snub last year when they were 8-3 with an FBS win and an FBS loss. Or like Richmond who got snubbed last year in the CAA at 8-3 (with an FBS loss). They had a win over Villanova (8-3) who got into the playoffs with the auto-bid and finished the season winning 4 in a row.
Best way to make sure there's not even a slight chance of being snubbed like that is to take care of business on Saturday! Then we can sit back and relax...or at least relax somewhat as we wait to see if we have a first round bye or not. Much rather be wondering about that than wondering about even a 5% chance of a snub.
I don't see a 9-3 Griz not making it either, and the other fcs schedule how out I think, but I don't know if it's a lock.'68griz said:This. Conference standings do nothing but determine the AQ's. No way the Griz are picked before EWU (auto), NAU, or MSU in that scenario (lost to all) and not sure when compared to SUU. SUU has a win @ MSU and at a FBS. If SUU beats NAU, Griz could be the 5th team from BSC. Best thing is for the Griz to win.

The Conference records don't mean SHIT except for the autobid...which EWU gets..when are you guys gonna drop this...as soon as your not the Auto bid...it becomes YOU vs every other non conference winner....it doesn't matter if the griz lost to NAU or if they do to MSU..we are in....The committee doesn't get to a point and go ohh shit..well we think the Griz should be here..but oh we already have 4 BSC teams...well I guess we have to put in a 3rd team from the Southland...wake up people.

The possible flaw in your argument is assuming the committee wouldn't take 5 teams. I'm pretty sure the committee took 5 teams from the CAA in the past (even tho the CAA didn't have 13 teams). In your above scenario, there would be a good case for taking 5 teams, depending, of course, what happened in other conferences. Without the Cat loss to SU, UM probably would have had zero to be concerned about.
