keys to beating weber

DeShields is a mouth breather, like Weber fan said, he'd be lucky to make Walk On at WSU.

"like weber fans said"??!? You ARE a weebles wobble fan, DB.

As for your comment....

BRAHAAAAHHAAAHHAAAAAHHAAAAAAAA!!!!

Omg. Dumbest thing I've read on here since, well, since your last post.

Why are all the good, reasonable weber posters on their board, and all the complete DBs are over here??

i dont factor in history because i know this is no automatic win for weber! griz have won 25 in a row yikes.

it is interesting though that griz haven't won in a reg season game in ogden since i think 2004. in rahe's 7 years at weber i think he has only lost 4 home reg season games.

idaho state '07,
nau '08,
montana state '09,
eastern '11 (last home reg season loss, mar 2, 2011)

rahe absolutely owns the big sky EXCEPT Montana, there fore it should be a great game! :thumb:

rahe vs big sky:

even after reasing all this im still throwing it all out the window....too big of a game, both teams will be super hyped, same with the fans. come on fans! show up! be loud!!!!! :thumb:

I like our odds. We're bound to win at least once in Ogden, right? :thumb: However, I would rather the Griz lose this week and win the tourney if they had to lose one, but I want them to win out all the way to the NCAA.

Anyway, I am surprised that Rahe hasn't been snatched up by another program with that success. And, no, that isn't intended to be smack.

Finally getting back on here after being gone shortly after posting on this thread early yesterday.

First, I never said or meant to imply that Hutchison was the key to this game. But if he plays the way he has the last two games, particularly the UND game, he will offset to a degree Weber's strength down low. What it does is give the Grizzlies an additional inside presence with Ward that they have not enjoyed all season. Therefore it is "A" key.

Secondly, I think this could be a defensive struggle and if that happens, despite Weber's improved defense recently I like Montana's chances. The perceived weakness on the Grizzlies, (inside), are the strength of the Wildcats and the perceived strength of the Grizzlies, (perimeter), is considered the weaker part of the Wildcats. If these cancel each other out offensively the game will be decided by the defense. It could be a very close contest.

I cannot fault any fan base for being confident, and can handle a fan saying Weber State will win. However, please explain how Deshields is a key rotational player for the GRIZ, with the most talented depth in the conference, yet he would not contribute to some other BSC programs? Come on, that is a slam on the kid that is beyond ridiculous. By the way, yes he is a trash talker and does know how to get under many opposing player's skin.

I am sure he is one of those players you hate to play against, yet love to be on your team. Wait until this team is his team to lead, you will see the same, if not more intensity than what Cherry brings. Deshields is a very talented player, and great person. Give the kid the credit he has earned.

As for depth, I will give Weber credit as being equal to us in overall depth. They have the front court depth advantage. The GRIZ have the back court depth advantage. Yes, if Hutchison continues to contribute with good play like he has the last few games, that certainly will help the cause for the GRIZ. As for Martin, the kid has serious upside. Like many bigs, will take awhile to adjust physically to div 1 ball. When he gets stronger, to give him more of a physical edge, he will be a very good BCS big. He needs to find that mean streak, and bite. That is not such an easy to find as a freshman. The talent and attitude is there to build on. I am sure Tinkle will get a lot out of him, as he gets older.

Maybe some logical Weber State fan can answer this for me. Who are the leaders of this team this year? Are they lacking some strong leadership from the players?

As for Tinkle and Rahe, both are great coaches, and people. I got to meet Rahe a few years ago at the BSC tournament in Greeley. I was very impressed with him. I have no doubt, both can be great coaches at larger conference teams too. I expect both to be coaching in a better conference within 3 years.

Can you imagine the happiness of all the other BSC fans and teams then?

Good luck to Weber State this Thursday. I pray and hope for no injuries and good officiating. I have a feeling this will be a very whistle happy game. I just pray the ticky tack stuff is not called.

Each yr that passes I wonder if rahe or tinx leave. Each yr im glad we have them and we are lucky.

Agreed....as for game outcome, I think it will be won in the paint and on the line. Weber has the edge underneath....so expect a close cat win 74-69

Tough to go on the road for five games and wsu is our biggest challenge...should be a heck of a game

I don't know if I could be considered logical, but I will give it a shot. ;)

Weber's team leaders are our Seniors: Scotty Bamforth and Mook Otis. You all know how good Scotty B is, but Frank has really started to come into his own. He is a talented big who can really handle the ball well. He doesn't have much of an outside shot, but knows how to drive and has some pretty sweet moves to get to the basket. Also, he is a hell of a defender. I believe he has the top field goal % in the conference or near it.

After those two, I feel that Berry, Tres, and Richardson do a good job of keeping the team together and focused. Weber's issues aren't leadership. On the bench, we have a kid name Deuce who is red shirting this season, he will be a JR next year (JC transfer from Barstow Community College), who is a natural leader and has already made an impact on the Cats.

One thing that Griz and Wildcat fans can appreciate is that the recruiting pipeline is wide open for both teams, but that isn't all, both teams have excellent coaches who know how to recruit and then develop their recruits. If you would have told me three years ago that Mathias Ward was going to be as good as he is, I would have laughed in your face. To me, he is an example of how good of a coach Wayne Tinks is. Having great assistants like Rupp and Evans doesn't hurt either.

By the way, even though I don't always agree. It is nice coming over here to talk basketball. I really don't have much to say about football, and I'm sure that will continue next season (I'm praying for a .500 year), but it is really nice having a discussion with educated fans who know the difference between backcourt and frontcourt.

 :puppy:

That's funny! And also more than a little sad....

Looking -- nervously -- forward to Thursday!

...interested in my humble opinion...
...the biggest key to beating weber state...
...pick thiz game up where the lazt one left off...
...don't blink and start banging like a heavy weight fight...

... 8-) ...

I am insterseted to see how Bamforth plays. Waldo and other weber fans are very high on him but i dont see it. I of course have no room to talk since i dont watch weber play other than against the griz. I am a huge basketball fan and watch every second of it that i can. I watch every griz game live or on the internet. I have seen bamforth get absolutly dominated by the griz( WILL CHERRY'S defence). I notice he hates to be physical and tends to be hesitant on his shots against the griz. I think in order for weber to win he has to play well, that being said i dont see it happening against one of the best defenders in the nation in will. I am not saying bamforth isnt good, i just have not seen what weber fans rave about with him. I hope the griz stay physical and play hard. I know weber thinks they are the much more physical team but that was not the case in Missoula and although it ended up being a two point game it was not that close, due to terrible exicution at the end by the griz.

Yeah, but in this week's match, it is going to be the Side Court that is key and UM has a lot depth and ability there.

Bamforth is a very capable shooter, but I tend to agree he hasnt performed at the same level of his great soph season the last couple of years, and does seem to struggle some against the Griz but i think hes a much different playrr in Ogden and if he gets on a roll, look out.

He also got more open looks last year. When you had one of the best guards in the nation on your team that opponents have to worry about you tend to get open more and better shots. IMO he misses Lillard

Its almost upon us! I see the key at Weber as we need to do well on the boards, at least stay even. We need to hit the 3s now and then to open up the drive and dish. Above all, get out and run, Griz, that's when you are at your best. Intense defense by the Griz will be a given. The environment will be hostile, so make those key shots to keep em quiet and get a good lead going. The referees, well they are Big Sky officials so both teams can count on getting blown calls, particularly with minor contact. Gotta respect the Weebs program. Clearly they are the only other BSC team worthy of it.
