It's Official: Roper coming to Montana

A few concerns: I don't think it’s a good thing to declare yourself an NFL prospect before you put up NFL caliber numbers at the collegiate level

Remember his audience. I first read that quote in the Eugene Register Guard. It probably came after an insinuated question of "Why the hell would you ever consider going to Podunk, Montana to play football?"

Most F-BS fans have no clue that anybody from Montana ever made it to the NFL. Besides, the boy wanted to get closer to Georgia, right?

How does one justify going to MONTANA to play football. Is that really closer to Georgia? Do they even have football up there? Is Montana even in the U.S.? I thought that it was part of Canada. Who do they play? Western State? Why would you go there?

Give the kid a break. Taking a quote out of context in the age of the Internet...

My opinion is that of the top three QB's we have now (Roper, Selle, and Larson), Kemp has the least to worry about concerning Roper. Roper or Selle or Larson. Whoever starts they are all Juniors. When Kemp is a Junior they are all gone. Kemp just needs to keep perfecting his QB skills, learn the offense, be a team player, hone his leadership skills, and contribute in any way he can (returns, special teams, running back, etc.).

Who Kemp needs to really be concerned with is D.J. Zapata. They will be going head to head for the next two years to establish the 2011 starter.

HIs audience was a phone interview with Bill Speltz for the Missoulian.Bill knows where Missoula is!

Closer to Georgia? We all know that can't be the case. Any kid who has NFL aspirations would go anywhere to play out those dreams. He was moving because Oregon wasn't a good fit for him which happens in the FBS more frequently than some people think.I think Roper has been pretty clear in interviews he is moving to get a chance to start and play pro. Good for him.

Like I said I am not coming down on the kid. The quote was from a newspaper article from a local reporter. I don't think it was reported out of context and the kid seems to be "well managed" by his dad so the response surprised me. I was looking at the CHEMISTRY of this kid coming in. That being said my point was I just questioned why any kid coming in would be talking to a local reporter about hoping Griz would be a springboard to the NFL. Every Griz player hopes that but I think most of our guys are in the moment of being a Griz which is what is best for the entire team. He is going to be around for a couple of years so I just hope his head and heart is in Montana.Believe me like all of us I hope this kid is great. Some good comments as a whole on this thread. Besides BH will straigtenout any "I" in players REAL FAST!

If it was a Joe Douglass coming in as a WR saying the same things I'd agree with you on that one, "hoopmaster111;" if it was a Kamakana Kaimuloa coming in as an OL saying the same, I'd agree with you as well, full heartily; if it was a Kelley Bryant coming in as a defensive lineman, same as well. A QB coming in saying so, get real "hoopmaster111." Maybe you should stick to basketball since "hoop" is part of your nomenclature. Some of you Griz fans get too big headed over what your announcers say when they cite Griz fans as being 'very knowledgeable football fans.'

Hell, where I work I got Crimson Tide fans coming out of the woodwork. And a War Eagle fan just showed up; you think those Alabama - Auburn fans aren't as knowledgeable about football as you Griz Fans?...you think they don't take their football somewhat seriously?..how about them 'Ramblin' Wreak,' Kentucky, Tar Heels, Longhorns, Aggies & Buckeyes fans? If you don't you got an awefully lot to learn!!!

If a prospective QB comes in saying such things all well and good. It don't matter to me and I'd say it doesn't matter straight across the board for one and all. "Go get 'em Dude!!! The sky's the limit!!!" Other position players doing so is an effrontery, quite naturally the "Get Real" sign being posted ouside the lockerrooms. If a QB's got the mind set of an F-18 fighter pilot, go for it; whatever it takes.

Besides which; ever hear of a Matt Cassel?

Did WyGrizfan have a stroke recently?

I was thinking the same thing. 4 am? must have been drunk, because that ramble made no sense.

Before everyone gets too excited about Roper I have 2 words of caution: JIMMY BARNES. Remember he was the Alabama drop down was was supposed to elevate Weber's program 2 years ago. He was a record setting HS QB from Southern Cal who was a highly ranked recruit with scholarship offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, NC State, Miami(Fl) and Colorado State. He made it to #2 on the Alabama depth chart before he transferred to Weber State. Weber hailed him as Saint Jimmy the savior until he started the first 3 games in 2007 and was horrible in Weber's offensive scheme. As we all know, Cameron Higgins got the nod and developed into one of the best FCS QB's. Saint Jimmy moved to 3rd string, never played again and left Weber after spring break the next semester.

Don't get too excited about Roper yet. There alot of things that have to fall into place for him to come right in and be successful. Look at this transfer as adding depth to the QB position, nothing else yet.

Good Point PMP, but it could have been the competition of Barnes that made Higgins better. Roper could be the type of competition that will spring board one of our other QB's to the next level.

And your statements have some kind of persausive value somewhere? It's as if you can't get out of kindergarden school on your way to Law School. Such weakness while truth is defined as strength. The negative being on the other side of nothing contra to the positive, hence, your negative insinuations are less than nothing.

As if you turkeys know what the hell you're talking about. Yeah, right. As soon as you convince me instead of the 'snobbery of the underling' mentality of just being born yesterday and actually dealing what is in place of your neurotisms. Non-truth seekers strung out on their own little fancies as Thomas Hobbes would say. Your typical resentment of being born taking it out on everybody else doesn't impress me either. One can always tell, they complain without saying anything except by innuendo. No knowledge content whatsoever in place of their petty social darwinisms. If you keep that up Fortune 500 will march you off to your slaughter in no time.

You sound like a guy three hours into an acid trip. Or maybe I just resent being born?

This is shaping up to be the best day on EgRaZ evar.

What's with all the pity for Selle and Larson? Starting at QB for the Griz isn't a right. Just because you're on the roster and the guy ahead of you graduates doesn't mean you're handed the job. He had every opportunity to impress the coaches in practice, scrimmage, and substitute playing time and didn't do it. If you spend 3 years on a team showing the coaches what you can do and they still don't feel comfortable putting the game on your shoulders then you should expect to be benched.

Also, having 5 years of college tuition and living expenses paid for isn't such a bad consolation prize.

the most sensible post to date.

As K'ung fu tzu once said..."I give you one point, if you can't come up with three?"...oh, to hell with ya!!! Even before you're all dead!!! No matter what opinions I cite there's always some low life condemnation coming from you, egriz. No recognition of human values nor even American ones. You can't even keep to the subject matter of the thread for instance. This is a football thread and all you do is condemn, condemn and more condemnation no matter what!!!! I despise you all as you all deserve to be despised!!!
There's no sense in asking what your problems are, is there? For all you're doing is striving to provide your solutions: just condemnation regardless of right or wrong.

And by the way, the State of Wyoming is but where I've worked for a payckeck the last twenty or so years; actually born in a suburb of Seattle known as Tacoma as an USAF brat. So to let you know from whence I'm coming from, bozos!!!

This is awesome!!! you need your own blog..... Human or American.... this is good stuff hahahaha I think someone finally had a nervous breakdown from taking egriz too seriously..... WyoGrizFan.... take it easy...... as for the rest of you..... I'll see you all in Hell before your dead lol

That being said.... Roper can only add more talent to our roster... and talent is good....Bobby will play whoever earns the starts from week to week.....players spot is set in stone ..... now I will go back to deserving to be despised and wait paitently for another WyoGriz explosion..... GO GRIZ!!

Face it folks. This place is a meat grinder. It has hastened the demise of countless posters, Greenie and Pickle boy to name just a couple. WhyAGrizFan is just the most recent victim of the merciless mind killing reparté endemic to this forum. The real question is who's next?
