It's Official: Roper coming to Montana

I watched the interview on KPAX's website. It seemed that he was not really excited about having to run. He considered himself a pocket passer but could run a little of asked. It will be interesting to see what kind of athlete he is.

It may be better to have a QB who is willing to stand in the pocket and wait for the routes to develop. Cole, IMO, tucked the ball and ran way too early, ALOT.

It is a bit disturbing that you would post somebody trying to piss their pants. An accident might be funny, but somebody actually trying to do it for the camera. Somebody filming it. Somebody putting it on the Internet for all to see.

Then somebody like you looking for it. Somebody like you wanting to post it to point out to others.

Disturbing.

You are not the only one with that opinion.

Actually, on KPAX the other night, in a phone interview, Roper said himself, that he was not promised the job...he was promised a chance for the job. He's excited to come here and fight for the opportunity to be starting QB...that was the jist anyway
Go GRIZ!! 8-)

Oh, come on. You are not that easily duped, are ya? What did you expect Roper to say, "Yeah, Bobby promised me the starting QB job if I signed with Montana"! Great way to start out on a positive note with your teammates, right? You will never hear the real story on anything in a TV interview.

no matter what was said, i have a question for you. do you honestly believe that regardless of who the better qb is, hauck is going to play roper no matter what? seems to me hauck probably cares more about winning than keeping a 20 year old happy. so, it would also seem to me, that the qb who plays and practices the best before the season will probably het the nod. and if that qb plays well to start the season he'll probably keep his job. and if he starts playing poorly, for several games, hauck may make a change. but to say he's going to go with roper no matter what is stupid. it may happen because it's fairly likely that roper is the better qb. but if it is roper, it's becuase hauck thinks he gives the griz the best chance of winning every saturday, and not because he promised him playing time. i think hauck cares more about his job, and his winning percentage than appeasing players.

Wow. It pains me to say this, but ILTC seems far brighter than some Griz fans who post on here.

ha. it shouldn't pain you. unlike some over here i don't feel the need to be an ass just for the sake of being an ass! i love the bobcats, but more than that i love football, and try to look at the game objectively. i just don't see why many people have a problem with hauck bringing in a guy who at the VERY least will create competition for the starting spot. if he's not as good as selle he won't start. and until someone on this board can claim that they have been to the practices that the coaches have, and have seen this competition unfold, it's safe to say the coaches know more than the fans. not to mention, you guys have a pretty decent track record so your staff and program might have a small idea what they're doing. let's hope my cats can continue improving and we can get our rivalry back to where it should be, and that's being one of the biggest and oldest in the nation. GO CATS!

I suspect "ilovethecats" is an imposter. He doesn't seem to possess the regular cat fan traits like bitterness, griz envy, lack of grammar skills, et al. I bet you he doesn't even own a pair of Carharts. :D

i'm guilty on not owning carharts. and in the defense of the cat fans that come over here and might talk smack, no matter how stupid they act they will still only be the 2nd dumbest poster to ever be in this board. i think we all know who the first is. perhaps i should post a picture of a kitten to help you all out...

My bet has been right over 83% of the time on the Griz Cat games in the last few decades!
What has your percentage been, smart guy?

Wow! I try not to count my chickens before they hatch so did not get reved up about this until I knew he was coming. This is a HUGE piece to our puzzle-we are going to be a very very tough team to beat next season.

Well said-good for you man.

Wow, reading around a few message boards all of a sudden Justin Roper is a washed up, no talent has-been because he came to Montana.

why would you assume i was talking about you? but for what it's worth, my record predicting cat-griz games is not very good. luckily, i have a very fulfilling life, and incorrectly predicting college football games is just a drop in the bucket my friend. and please, include a picture of a kitten in your posts so i can understand them better. ;)

He has a lot to prove, no one is going to tolerate a 50% completion rate as long as we have four other QBs on the bench. His receiving corps isn't going to be anywhere as good as Oregon's either.

All I know is that he's probably better than Selle.

Even if UMs WRs turn out not to be as good as he had at Oregon, on the same token (to even things out) he won't be throwing against as good of secondaries as the Pac 10 either.

In a lot of ways, your statement above that I've bolded is probably true. Duck receivers are undoubtedly slightly faster and quicker overall. Living out here in Oregon, though, and watching the Ducks play a bit, I saw an awful lot of dropped passes from Duck receivers last year. I didn't see any Duck receiver who had Mariani's hands, for instance.

That being said, I'm not sure what percentage of Roper's passes were flat dropped and should have been caught.

Sounds like if you are not from Billings you are from nowhere as far as a shot at QB is concerned. You guys who tout Selle need to take another look at the articles from around the state regarding the performance of Jeff Larson at QB. He can run the ball, pass, receive, hand off, and works his butt off in practice. For those of you who recall the first touchdown that Richmond scored in the championship game in Chatty, it was a pass to the quarterback after he had handed off. The Griz have an ideal situation where they could have 2 quarterbacks in the backfield and have a number of plays around that kind of set up. Jeff Larson would really fit that situation well. No offense to Selle as he is a good passer but when have you ever seen him run the ball except when he has to scramble. A defense that doesn't have to defend against the QB run has one less offensive tool to worry about. As has been stated in other opinions that Roper has been guranateed the starting position at quarterback in order to entice him to transfer to UM, BH has stated that the QB position is wide open. Wouldn't that be a lousy thing to do to Selle and Larson? Let's hope that the Montana kids are treated fairly!
