Well if I thought we could hire somebody that would have the balls and administrative support to stand up to both BH and TDC I would hope the short list only has his name on it. Sadly those two would probably head up a new recruitment committee. Somedays it can just seem hopeless. Certainly a package deal to Utah State would cheer me up but I'm not getting my hopes up as we know the credibility and/or sadistic cruelty of the person who brought that up..
What's wrong with Decuire? He's a great guy and a good coach. Not sure why you're unhappy with him.
As far as Bobby, we're lucky to have him. I know people are always quick to blame the coach when things aren't going well (some warranted, some not) however let's put this into perspective for a minute. We were a blown call away from beating the #2 team in the country on the road in a game where our starting QB was knocked out of the game. Then one week later, you stay out on the road taking on the #5 team in the country who was coming off a really humiliating loss themselves with a backup QB who can't punch his way out of a paper bag, and only lose by 3. You have your starting QB in both of those games, you run away with both of them easily IMO. Now granted, I disagree with Bobby's decision to stick with KB at backup QB, but I don't think the O-line has been anywhere near as bad as several posters on this board have proclaimed it to be. We will literally have 4 starters returning to the team next year on the line (assuming they all stay). Now as for assistant coaches screaming at the players, I personally don't have a problem with that depending on the scope and severity of it. I had a Basketball coach who used to scream all the time, and nobody ever quit because of it. Now if they scream more in the sense that it's verbal abuse, then that's a completely different story and should be addressed.
Now for Kent. If this is his dream job, then he should take it. Logan is home for him, his family is there, and I would not blame him if he wanted this job. That said, this does not feel like a step up. Feels much more like a lateral move. USU does not have anywhere near as good of facilities, fan base, tradition, and even programs as good as UM, but in Haslam's eyes there are lots of other reasons to take this job.
As for UM, I know Greg Sundberg just got promoted to Deputy AD in the Spring. Whether or not he would want the job I don't know, but I will say that he's got a great personality, he's extremely well like by the staff and boosters, and that man can flat out fundraise. If he were to want the job, I think he'd be a great choice, but I would also be open to bringing in a new voice with new perspective and new leadership. I think that could do us a lot of good, and I think Bodnar could do a pretty good job of hiring someone potentially young and energetic that could really take the department to new heights.
We'll have to see how it all shakes out.
