Haslam: BK deserves a longer contract

Read the article about the BK contract extension. There’s a section where Haslam talks about his own contract situation and made it sound uncertain about his future. Shinn might pull the trigger.

As for budgets, it’s a good thing we have Marcus Welnel and Grizzlies Sports Properties. Between the new partnership with Destination Missoula and now Montana Knife Company on the turf, that stuff will certainly help. Plus QB Club growth this offseason has been substantial!

I saw they saved some for sale. Parts of the Grizzly bear and some green area and maroon. Not sure when they’ll sell it though.
That’s the whole point of that Twitter post. Someone on Twitter had to tag Kent as no one in the AD Dept thought it would be a good idea to have social media campaign before the turf was removed (check out Boise States) Twitter on selling there turf. They got called out and Seems like after though

So your supposition is that recruits don’t care that much about who their coach will be?
No, I didn’t say that. But some recruits want to go to a school or a program. Not to a head or position coach. A top FBS qb would care. Not many who come to UM need to know. If a recruit cares, then just ask the head coach and the assistants who recruited you. Will you be here when I arrive? Listen to what they say and read how they say it. I don’t think a coach is going to blatantly lie to that question.

If you get the impression that they may not be there when you arrive, then do what you want. Do you want to go to EWU or MSU, or to the program? Do you think Cat recruits feel Vigen is going to be around? He’s tried to leave the past 2 years. I think it will be clearer as the year goes on that BK is more likely to be around than Vigen.

And you can de-commit and leave if the coach leaves.

Your apparent view is simplistic. You must not have ever been recruited by top schools or have had kids recruited for college sports in recent history.

Did Gillman, Ah Yat or Davis care whether Bobby or their old position coach was still around?

How are you gonna feel if we give BK a 3 year extension and then we go 8-4 this year? You still gonna think he deserves another couple years when he lost 4 games with an offense that features Ah Yat, Gillman, and Davis? How would he do in 27 without those guys?

We can’t afford to fuck this up. Ride it out with a 1 year deal and then re-evaluate.
Yes, I would feel good about that.

I say give BK at least two if not three years to help with player retention, assistant coach's retention, and recruiting. Given his pedigree and off-field success this far, are we taking a risk ? Sure we would be--just look at The LG and Coach Harris thus far : ( . And having not been a head coach before, Coach K will probably make a few--very few--bonehead mistakes given that he will a long-time, assistant and veteran OC in BP and a former HC in Phen in his ear on game day and before at practices. I just think the pluses out way the minuses in giving him at least a 2 year deal and adds some badly needed stability--we don't need an extreme case of musical chairs @ UM among coaches and players and stability for our program starts with our HC. !!! ( And Coach Delaney did a tremendous job given the s__t show he inherited from Engstrom !!! About 3-4 years ago I met Mick's great-niece managing the Downtown Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Billings and told her, her great uncle was/is a good man and coach and really pulled our program out of a mess and restored stability during his three-year tenure 👍 !!! )
I agree.

If they don’t care if the coach leaves, then by that logic, they don’t care much about who the coach is.

Look, there’s a reason essentially no big, or good, programs operate with their coaches on an expiring contract. It’s an easy thing to recruit against. Not everyone will care, but some certainly do.

You know little about football or recruiting. Recruits at Montana care about the program more than the coach. Why didn’t any players leave when Hauck and most assistants left? Bobby often didn’t sign an extensions until into his last year. How many coaches leave after or when their contract expires? Why are players still transferring and committing to UM now? BK is in his last year. Do you think UM has lost any recruits because BK is in the last year of his contract? It looks like BK has recruited very well in the last year of his contract.

Bobby also didn't often sign the top players in Montana.

I wouldn't like going 8-4 but I would live with it. I would think he deserves another year or two when he lost 4 games because I had Coach BH going 8-4 this year.

I would expect improvement in 27.

Not that anybody cares what my opinion is, but KH screwed up by initially only giving BK a one year contract. The guy hasn’t been a HC before, give him at least two years with a low buyout if it doesn’t work. It’s not like you were in a bidding war to get him as a coach.

Now you have it where players, recruits, etc, will be rightfully worried about his status as HC, and you’ll have to extend him before he’s done anything. Just really poor work from KH.
Among the dumbest posts of the year.

Expect better from you.

Why do you say stupid things like this?
Why does Haslam say stupid things like reviewing the coaching contract before there has been 1 game? Does he think BK or assistants are going to leave before the season starts? Is it because Haslam wants to stack the offseason national champion trophy case?

My question was to you. Can’t you stick to the topic? Or answer the question directed at you? My question was to and about you and had nothing to with Haslam.

If you want to have a different question about Haslam, go for it. But your response does not answer my question.
