I've been told by those who would know and those I would absolutely believe, that a specific bobcat booster -- and regular bcn poster -- called the Brekke family and asked them how firm Gunnar's commitment to UM is. Then, he posted regarding his conversation on bcn. Evidently, though, that thread has now been removed.

If this occurred, it would constitute a significant NCAA violation. Perhaps the NCAA ended up in Missoula because they didnt have a good state of Montana map??

So instead of contacting this guy that you know and asking him about the facts, you decide to take it upon yourself to report him to MSU.

You're sure a classy dude.

By the way, this guy and Gunnar's dad have been friends nearly their entire life. That would be considered an exclusion from a recruiting violation.

Had you contacted him first, you might have known this before you went and did what you did. Instead, you show your true colors and try to tear everyone else down to your level.

Forget about burying the hatchet, you can wallow in your own filth.

For the majority of Griz fans, I do sincerely hope things get better, but then there's a select few like this guy and PR that really ruin the image of Griz nation and makes it hard to maintain that position. I'll just choose to consider my in-laws, their friends, and my friends and try to ignore guys like DHinWa and PR.

Dude, first learn to read.

Then come back and apologize, and perhaps you and I -- assuming you're capable-- can have an adult conversation about what ACTUALLY took place, not what you imagine a big, bad Griz fan would do.

Is this your attempt at covering your tracks? You've already proven that you lie your way out of things. You and I both know what you did and why you did it, but if you want to make up some more stuff, go right ahead. I'm sure enquiring minds would love to read your "version" of how it went down.

By the way, Cami Bechtold, NCAA MSU compliance, cleared the guy of any wrong doing.

Whether Brekke does decide to go to MSU or stay with his commitment with UM won't be known until signing day. Sounds like he is a really good player and either school would be lucky to have him.

If he did go back on his verbal, there are a lot of reasons why this is a possibility. You lost your coach, AD hired an interim coach, lost your OC, will be hiring a new coach in a year or two, are being investigated by a lot of organizations and finished middle of the pack in the Big Sky.

It won't take you long to get back on top(maybe even next year) but you can't be surprised that verbals offered last fall might be re-examined. Right now MSU has a lot going for it including a lot of open spots up for grabs at the running back position with the graduation of several running backs.

This thread has become an instant classic....

So how bout that Brekke kid? Good kid. Stud athlete. Best of luck to him with the Cats.

...didn't want him anyway...... :yikes: :coffee:

Just another part of that Texas pipeline, except for you have to replace Texas with Helena and then you would be more accurate. Right, BlgsGriz, Everett, and Kem?

Surfing BN, I found this:

Capital High All-State running back/cornerback and Montana Gatorade football player of the year Gunnar Brekke confirmed Thursday that he is officially switching sides of the Cat-Griz rivalry.

“People are always going to talk about what’s going to happen with the (possible NCAA) sanctions at UM, or they had a bad year so they won’t be good, or they changed coaches. It had nothing to do with any of that, honestly,” Brekke said.

“I just think, when I first committed, I never gave MSU a real chance. I went on a visit about a month-and-a-half ago, and I really liked it. The more I thought about it, I thought in my heart that (MSU) was a better fit for me.”

Sounds like a well-spoken kid and he handled it the best way he could IMO..

I guess though some Cat Posters are going to have to accuse him of lying to the media, since he basically refuted every reason said Cat posters gave for him choosing MSU...

MSU has snagged a lot of recruits because of Ash and the job that Coach Mac (o-line coach). It doesn't hurt that they have snagged awards for Liberty Coach of the Year and FCS assistant coach of the year.

Honestly, I respect the kid even more after reading the article. He stepped up and said he wanted to re-evaluate the whole process and then made a different decision. Good for him. He manned up and said his peace. This is the problem with a system that pressures the kids to give an early verbal. They feel as if they don't give an early verbal, their slot might be given to the next kid in line which does happen. I wish the young man the best. I just hope we beat their butts on the field.

Benedict Arnold. I have no problem with him "de-committing", but to do it so he can head to a school's arch rival? Lame. I hope he fumbles every time he touches the ball. Man these sour grapes are tasty!

Good luck to Gunnar. He made a personal decision and I respect him for it. I would think that a student wanting a PT degree would be light years ahead going to a school with a graduate program in place.
The NCAA shold investigate this matter to determine if MSEuliss violated any rules regarding the change of committment.

This is why a kid should NEVER give a verbal commitment before they even play their senior year. A lot can change in that time, and it just doesn't make any sense.

Gunnar will play RB at MSU and be very good at it, that's also the position he would have played at UM. He is a great kid with a tremendous work ethic. I hope he does well and appreciate how he handled what was a tough situation for the kid. No question this is UM's loss and the Cat's gain.
