Griz QB Club membership

Why is Bobby "entirely different" within the QB Club versus other public interactions? He's so antagonistic with media that he ends up pissing off lots of fans who want a little more info about their team.

Don Read's come all "Griz Den" lunches in the day were awesome. The whole town got inside glimpses at upcoming opponents and lots of other info. Read's personality really added to the events. This was "program building" at its best.

Now we get a little pre and post game mumbling on a local news clip as Bobby stares down at his "notes".
Let’s call it like it is Missoula media hasn’t always been too friendly to Hauck or the Griz program. I can see why he’s a little bit jaded or hesitant with them. He also gets super annoyed with really dumb questions, which the media tends to ask in spades and repeatedly. They need to up their game if they

Quick question ….I thought I remember reading that if you support our good ol grizzlies collective to the tune of $1000 or more that would also qualify for quarterback club status. Is that correct?

No they had to back off that cause the NCAA doesn't allow for people to receive benefits from the university for contributing NIL dollars.

Are you sure of this? I don't know, but recall at one point that UM (football?) had to stop directly encouraging NIL donations because there was a rule preventing universities from assisting or being involved with NIL's. I have not see a rule saying what you said, or heard that from UM. But I don't know. And I'm not in the loop. Just asking.

Well remember about a year ago when they said we could split our donation between QB Club and the collective and then like a week later they told us the NCAA doesn't allow that? Schools couldn't get involved and we weren't allowed to receive anything from the school in return. I may have some of the details wrong but they did walk it back because it wasn't permitted.

No, I don't remember that. That's why I'm asking. I also don't remember anything being said about not being allowed to receiving anything in return either.

This may be a relatively unpopular take. But as a member who lives 900 miles from Missoula, the biggest benefit for me is knowing I'm helping the program. Yes, the jacket is nice.

But I don't get a ton out of the meetings. They can be interesting, but starting at 5:00 pacific I miss about half of them. And of course I'm sitting in my den watching them myself, so it doesn't have the social aspect. The Q&As are often largely inaudible much of the time.

I don't say this to dissuade anyone from joining because it's a great program. But for those of us way outside Missoula, you need to temper your hopes of great benefits beyond knowing you're advancing the program

Totally fair point.

Ev - or other out of town QB Club members, is there something else - value added - that you'd appreciate? Or does it matter?

For starters, how about home delivery some of “Up With” commensurate to the quantity of beer a member is provided when attending the live meetings and a dozen of these cookies I hear you GFP guys rave about each week. A guy can dream, right🤣

Not to rekindle this argument, but this seems like all the more reason why we need to opt in

The cookies are Walt's at Still Room! Sadly the Hilton Garden Inn's cookies aren't up to par

Agreed - it seems opting in is the best move
I have yet to hear a compelling argument for not opting in. Even those arguments about how it affects rosters for other sports does not do it for me because over time UM will recover, grow, and progress as a whole even farther.
Rip the bandaid off!

Thanks for asking Brint. I sincerely appreciate it.

But it's a difficult question because many of the things I'd suggest are either logistically impossible/costly (e.g. delivering beer and cookies for each meeting as fnz so wisely suggested), or something that may make life easier for me, but more difficult for others (e.g. moving the time back from 5:00 pacific, which then makes it 7:00 mountain and 9:00 eastern: not ideal).

Perhaps it's as simple as holding some of the "extra" benefits (such as the tumblers) for us to pick up when we're in Missoula. Maybe it's giving us $50 a year to spend at the GSA tailgate. Whatever.

Again, for me, knowing I'm helping the program is the most important feature. But anyone far away from Missoula needs to understand some of the other assumed benefits are definitely muted.

Not having roster limit, not wasting $200,000 a year, and not having athletic dept minions running NIL.

Maybe Bobby wants to be able to fundraise for NIL. With schools being able to revenue share, I can’t imagine the rule against helping an NIL will last long. Maybe they don’t want the players to have to do anything to get paid.

Paying NIL is one thing. But paying money to play or stay is objectionable to me.

Is it clear that “revenue sharing” can be funded by funds raised by the university? Can the funds come from the foundation? Is or should it be tax deductible for donors to funnel cash to players?

DEI is going away for now. But Title IX isn’t. The football team isn’t going to be able to keep most of the money. Is it better for university administrators to decide who gets the money rather Welnel et al?

Seems like this will be good for lesser sports and women.
