Griz QB Club membership

Well-known member
Hey Griz Nation! Was hoping to get a roll call on egriz members that are part of the QB club. What’s the biggest benefit of the club in y’all’s opinion?

Ive been a member for three years. The weekly presentation from Bobby is always interesting.

QB club offers members a completely different and transparent perspective into the program and team than anything you see publicly through traditional media. I enjoy access to practices, Bobby's breakdown of film of the prior game and look ahead to the upcoming opponent is a lot of fun, and his demeanor and fan engagement is completely 180 opposite from what everyone sees via media. There are several events that are a lot of fun, including the QB club golf tournament that offers fun engagement with the coaches etc.

Plus... you are offering financial support that is truly critical to the success of the program! I highly recommend everyone on this platform to join QB Club. Well worth it.

I joined last year and also purchased a membership for our son who’s currently pursuing an MdPhd on the east coast. We watch the meeting via Zoom and usually FaceTime afterwards to discuss. It gives us great opportunity to share our passion for Griz Football while residing 2,500 miles from each other, helps generate needed funds for the team and a provides a much different perspective of Bobby, compared to what you see in press conferences and news clips. Oh….there’s also some pretty cool swag and I was able to watch a fall camp practice when we were in town for the Pearl Jam concert.

Why is Bobby "entirely different" within the QB Club versus other public interactions? He's so antagonistic with media that he ends up pissing off lots of fans who want a little more info about their team.

Don Read's come all "Griz Den" lunches in the day were awesome. The whole town got inside glimpses at upcoming opponents and lots of other info. Read's personality really added to the events. This was "program building" at its best.

Now we get a little pre and post game mumbling on a local news clip as Bobby stares down at his "notes".

I think he does it to annoy you, specifically.

Don Read never told anyone, including QB anything that could end up on a bulletin board. Vanilla was his favorite word. He was totally paranoid. But he made QB Club very fun and entertaining. No video at meetings to discuss past or future games. He didn’t need it. Always the upcoming opponent was the biggest, fastest, strongest team he had ever seen (even if we were playing sisters of the poor) and it would take playing our best game to win. We spent more time roasting him than talking football it seemed. He was the best straight man around. Great coach. Totally understood his audience. Understood he not only needed to represent Grizzly Football but also needed to be an ambassador for UM as a whole in the recruitment of future enrollment. He was the face of the university in a very positive and classy way.

Let’s call it like it is Missoula media hasn’t always been too friendly to Hauck or the Griz program. I can see why he’s a little bit jaded or hesitant with them. He also gets super annoyed with really dumb questions, which the media tends to ask in spades and repeatedly. They need to up their game if they want him to up his.

Have you considered listening to stuff like Inside the Den to get that perspective?

Been a member for a couple of years along with my father. It’s great getting the in detail breakdown of games and also upcoming opponents.

There have been plenty of times when watching a game I am completely beside myself with what I saw. Then Monday during QB club Bobby May say something like “this guy is supposed to signal this change to this guy. And this guy didn’t get it, that’s why that big play happened”.

And then you completely understand why maybe we gave up a big play other than “this defensive coordinator sucks!!!”

Just one example of what I love about QB club. Also getting to see Bobby in a different mode than media answers is a breath of fresh air.

My father and I often discuss what we hear during QB club. And when we’re in town we go down to the practices which are a fun experience.

I've been a steady QB Club member since the Delaney days and I can say without a doubt that the current QB club format is the very best, and seemingly others agree because of it's all time enrollment numbers. A lot have talked about what they hear from Bobby, which I'd agree.

I've learned more about terminology, audibles, and coverages in the last 2-3 years. Paying attention to what he describes in QB club has made me a "smarter" fan. He gets in the weeds a bit but for being a football dork like I am, I love it. It isn't just "this guy made a great play" but a deeper explanation of what was called, how it unfolded, and if it did (or didn't) work. It's also given me some better insight into broken plays that didn't go well for the Griz, where the error came from and so on. The complexity of what even kick / punt coverage teams have is impressive and it's given me a totally different respect for the game these kids play.

The swag is pretty cool. We get exclusive gear / jackets / hats / etc. They're rotating things around right now so it isn't just another QB club 1/4 zip too. I'm a big fan of nike gear and I'm now pretty loaded up with stuff. For the 2024 season I got a Nike Elite backpack, QB club beanie, steel tumbler, luggage tags, and my wife got her first QB jacket - a windbreaker. Then through dinner sponsors we got branded Yeti tumblers.

The QB Club golf tournament is a lot of fun, I've had a team in it for a while and it kind of harkens back to more fun/casual ones. You don't have to be a QB Club member to play in it but I think we need to be one to set a team up.

There's benefits of access too, just look at the order of ticket preference in 2023 for national title tickets. QB Club was in an earlier grouping. I think there's one fall scrimmage QB Club only can attend (loosely enforced though). Also there's regular updates that come our way from staff. We had a signing day lunch where we heard from each position coach. You occasionally can get a chance at a box for concerts too. I got one for Guns n' Roses when a few opened up, I recall an email that went out that there was possibly going to be a chance for one for PJ last summer too.

If you really do the math on it too, being local you get 11+ dinners for your membership fee. It's buffet style, and your first drink previously has been sponsored too - so it also covers a handful of meals where you watch film and hear from Bobby.

They stream every episode with secure link that a staff member monitors. It allows me to still catch a meeting if I have something else going on, if I'm out of town, or whatever. I know for those that don't live in Missoula there are watch parties in many towns around the region too. They've done a lot to make it as accessible as possible and have upped the technology with it as well so he can highlight and point things out on screen.

Additionally I know it's vital to the Grizzlies success, and I'm a superfan, so I'm happy to support.

I chuckled all the way through your post. That was good.

This may be a relatively unpopular take. But as a member who lives 900 miles from Missoula, the biggest benefit for me is knowing I'm helping the program. Yes, the jacket is nice.

But I don't get a ton out of the meetings. They can be interesting, but starting at 5:00 pacific I miss about half of them. And of course I'm sitting in my den watching them myself, so it doesn't have the social aspect. The Q&As are often largely inaudible much of the time.

I don't say this to dissuade anyone from joining because it's a great program. But for those of us way outside Missoula, you need to temper your hopes of great benefits beyond knowing you're advancing the program

That's interesting. I often times have to miss the live event as my kids seem to often times have their own sporting conflicts that I'm coaching, so I have Colson email me the link the next day of the replay. They have made a point of passing the microphone to anyone with a question so those are clear. I enjoy listening to the replay. Live in person is no doubt better. But they've improved rhe video quality tremendously.

It's better, but the passing of the mic is hit and miss at best. Often the person starts speaking and Bobby hears and begins answering the question well before a mic gets to them. It's fine, but there's vast room for improvement

Agree on all points. I've been a member for several years now in spite of recognizing most benefits are for the Missoula crowd.
