MBBALL GCU Mirrors Gonzaga

It's time to punt this idea Thirdandlong. It's ain't happening otherwise Travis would he doing it.
Travis already exhausts boosters with perks other BSC conferencd schools don't get.
Haslam and even Bodnar are not forward thinking enough to move on this.
I don't know you would say that about Haslam and Bodnar. But, yes, they are practical and realistic. Yes, they first support the athletic department and the school. NIL takes the backset, as it should.

My view is that anyone who disagrees with Third is probably correct. He's in the Who's Who of Unrealistic Thinkers.

You can allocate where/who your NIL donation goes to. Get in contact with Marcus Welnel and he can talk you through it. I would love to see our bball NIL grow.
That's not how it is done. There is no way I am donating into a general NIL pool with no say on where the money is allocated. The way to do it is to create an escrow fund at a bank to hold all donations until the goal is reached. But we need an astute fund-raiser who is good enough to sell the vision to the right donors. Now, UM just begs for money, with no real explanations as to how or where it will be spent. That's weak and ineffective for astute donors.

Here is my reasoning for focusing our NIL efforts on men's BB, rather than football. Think about it. We play at the same level in BB as all other universities. If we can field a team good enough, we could theoretically win a national championship. I am not saying we could ever become that good, but you get my point. Gonzaga has come close, and remember that they spent over a decade as a mid-conference pretender in the Big Sky.

In football, even if we win another NC, no one outside of the state of Montana even cares. 99% of sports fans in America couldn't tell you who won the FCS NC last year. The game is played in an off-prime time on TV, in some sports mecca called Frisco, Texas. Whoop-T-Doo!

FCS football is dying. We have lost way too many competitive teams to move-up status. There is no future in investing lots of NIL money into winning at the FCS level. And, we will never be in the national picture if we ever move-up to FBS in football.

However, it is POSSIBLE to become nationally relevant in basketball. Put Montana on the map. Play against great college teams in Missoula after we become relevant. Obtain TV revenue from playing in nationally-televised games. Become able to actually advance past the first round in The Dance. Think about it.

And you're the biggest self-absorbed blow-hard on the board....... a non-alum who thinks his money can buy him friends and influence with UM athletics. Seth says hello. So does Brian.

Talk to Marcus. He has made himself available for these situations. If you want 100% of your donation to go to one program or even one player, it can be done.

Judging from his posts, third isn’t donating. He wants others to bye us a national championship team.

Always interesting to see how willing folks are to spend other peoples money. You would think someone who has started several successful medical supply companies would just write a check for a couple hundred thousand and take care of his perceived problem.

You lie, as usual. Prove it or STFU
I already provided good evidence. And u have talked to coaches at big sky schools. $850,000 for West Virginia. It didn’t even get them into the tourney.

You prove your $250,000 figure. You just made it up. Would be nice for Griz hoops, but wouldn’t come close to making UM into Gonzaga. Women would have to be included.

And doesn’t know much about the UM NIL or NIL in general.

“Gonzaga All-American Drew Timme is a prime example. Instead of entering the 2022 NBA Draft, Timme returned to Gonzaga for a fourth season in part because of the opportunity to make in excess of $600,000. Timme signed deals with Northern Quest Resort & Casino, Walker's Furniture, Dollar Shave Club, Beats by Dre, Continental Tire and Barstool Gonzaga.” SI, 2023.

How would $250,000 NIL for UM make UM the next Gonzaga?

Small minded people from a small minded school. Stay satiated watching Travis attempt to win a Big Sigh title, so that we can be humiliated in the dance as a 16-seed. I assure you there are other Mid-major schools who will utilize the portal to be able to actually compete on a national level. Hoops lies about the amount of NIL money it takes to sign good players. My info directly from a Big Ten athletic official transcends his typical B.S. about knowing everything and everyone in the nation. $250,000 invested in 2 key portal transfers who equate to an instant Big Sigh championship, and a 25+ win season. We could then schedule away games against top schools, and slowly build our program the way GCU has. But wasting my key-strokes on small-minded individuals is just that, a total waste of time.

Why don't you donate first. I'll quadruple any donation you make, out of my pocket change

Oh, by the way, Bobby Hurley frequents our cigar store in Scottsdale, and he was lamenting how the small-minded boosters at ASU won't fund the NIL fund for basketball, while his rival, Arizona, is raising huge amounts for their BB program. He also said that a couple of the biggest boosters at ASU, neither of which are ASU alums, dominate the narrative for directing the NIL money to football. "Non-Alum over-bearing booster".......... gee, that sounds very familiar!

My info comes directly from current basketball coaches and players, and the internet. And you said UM could be Gonzaga.

You keep using private schools as your comparison which is like apples to oranges.

Thirdandlong...your idea is great and it sounds awesome but UM can't even get the student section part right.

UM should fix that first and then they can start to be like GCU and the Zags. Both GCU and Gonzaga value the student and understand that environmental is created by students.

Travis already schedules $ games to supplement the crappy pay of the BSC. He uses those money games to pay his assistants more.

I also would assume Travis is already out working for money to help his BBALL program....most likely has more perks than any other BSC coach.

But unless UM dissolves FBALL your dream will be just that. I

On an actual basketball note ... Who watched the Grand Canyon - Alabama game? Talk about mayhem on the basketball court! The refs called 48 fouls (fairly even, 21-27) and surely could have called more. The teams has 27 turnovers between them and only 18 assists (5+13). None of the guys at CBS Sports Central could recall an actual "play" that either team ran ... it was all one-on-one, win or lose. In the end, neither team shot worth crap: GC 32% on FG, 10% (2 of 20, so they kept trying), while 'Bama did 37% and 26%. Overall, GC gave the Tide all they could handle, and even had the lead (briefly) late in the game. Could have been very entertaining to watch except for the sloppy play and all the fouls. Mildly surprised that somebody didn't get hurt.

GCU subsidized its students, to fly to Spokane. One I know paid $28.

The GCU athletic teams were asked if they want to volunteer for the Final Four. My soccer player friend will volunteer. Her mom played college hoops. She didn't travel to Spokane, tho.

Kelvin Sampson to Final Four again. Apparently a great guy. From his bio:

"
EARLY COACHING CAREER
Sampson began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1979-80 under Jud Heathcoate before moving to Montana Tech as an assistant coach in 1980.

One year later, he became Montana Tech’s head coach, leading the Orediggers to a 72-62 record in more than four years, including three straight 22-win seasons during each of his final three years there.

He led Montana Tech to three NAIA District 12 title games and was named the Frontier Conference Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1983. In the three years prior to his arrival, Montana Tech had won a combined 17 games."
