Future Schedule

While partly accurate Mr. Spanky, we don't really know . . .
the full extent of the University's future or ongoing financial challenges and what Haslam's boss has ordered him to do in response.

A clerk in Haslam’s office could have made that schedule. If that’s the best we can do, make a parking lot out of the football stadium and concentrate on basketball.

Folks are missing the bigger picture here. By the time Dixie State plays Montana, they will be a full fledged Big Sky Conference member and will replace Montana when Montana bolts the big sky to play in the revamped MVFC along with UND and NDSU.

Montana will play Dixie State, but not as a big sky member. Fools.

Dixie State is now on the UM football schedule and is rumored to become a member of the Big Sky Conference.
What school will Haslam schedule next? Will Rocky Mountain College soon appear on the UM future schedule? Years ago, UM played Wyoming in Billings. Now, Rocky would fit the mold of a Haslam opponent.

Stay home already.

There is no REAL rumor of Dixie State becoming a Big Sky member other than in poster's minds.

A Football affiliate at some point? Possible, if they show some success, but having a western OOC foe for all BSC teams is more beneficial.

How about we jettison the old GWFC teams and then be able to schedule THEM for OOC games and get rid of the stupid unbalanced schedule?

Sorry - I didn't use the sarcasm font.

Have you noticed? UNDfan is gone. Guys in the white coats put a net over him and dragged him off to the boobie hatch? Can't have smart phones or computers in the lockup.

Nope. Just tired of seeing paper champions crowned and then getting blasted in the playoffs because they avoided any real competition in the regular season. You know, like losing to the University of Fucking San Diego? :? :?

Is Haslam moving UM in the direction of Division2? Why did he hire a quality coach like Bobby Hauck? How can an alum be pleased with Haslam scheduling Dixie State, Monmouth, etc? Then tell us about the tradition of Dixie State! Oh yes, Monmouth, the film location for the movie, Little Orphan Annie is on the schedule....wonderful.
When I attended UM, them President Newburn, placed less emphasis on the athletic program and moved to Division2. Is that Haslam’s plan once again? By all appearances, he is moving UM football in the direction of soon to be oblivion.

Haslam wouldn't do that on his own. That would be a huge stain on his resume. If Bodnar is hamstringing Haslam to a significant degree, then Haslam would be in the job market actively looking for a happy landing BEFORE such a stupid move. Alumni and donors would NOT be happy, with a DII move, donations would dry up, alum would NOT come to games, and Bodnar would not last six months. Remember all the pitchforks and torches when Pat Williams was nominated for the Board of Regents? If one really wants to know why all the cupcake games, ask Kent Haslam. Simple as that. There are posters on this board who claim to be friends with Haslam and others. Pick up the phone or go see Haslam in person. End any needless speculation at the same times as 'adding something worthwhile to the discussion on this board.' Problem solved.

I sent him an email, see what happens.

Every couple of years this type of thread comes up.

And there are three main complains no matter how the schedule is.

If the schedule has an FBS Oregon on it people complain because of the butt kicking and injury posiblities.

If its all FCS then people complain about the choice of teams

If there is a NIAI or Div 2 team then all hell breaks loose.

I for one want the Grizzlies in the playoffs every year and a FBS ass kicking or Div 2 win hurts way too much

This schedule though maybe not the most glitzy schedule it makes for a great chance for the Griz to be in the playoffs. So I say Keep playing a FCS only schedule EVERY FRICKIN YEAR

Maybe he can talk further about the great football tradition of Dixie State.

You do realize we play a cupcake like every single year right? Every team in college football plays a cupcake every single year to boost their record. Why all of a sudden is it an issue?

UM is not moving to D-II. Bodnar is very supportive of athletics. UM needs to schedule home games for the big revenue they bring in. My guess is that some people complain about D-II games so much that Haslam looks hard for lesser FCS teams to bring in. Also, there aren't as many D-II possibilities left. When was the last time UM played NAIA? Lesser FCS wins are better than FBS losses and D-II wins for the playoffs. As has been said, UM plays a weak game or two almost every year.

I think some fans just want to complain about anything they can complain about. If Everett was a NDS fan, he would complain about winning at such a low level in a soccer stadium.

My email and his response. Forgot Dixie State will be D1 when we play them. I liked his response:

Me:

"Hi Kent - Got some people in a huff of why some D2 games in coming years. Got a short answer as to why? Don’t want to take up too much of your time. Thank you and GO GRIZ!"

Kent:

"Some?

We have one. Central Washington and couldn’t find anyone else which occasionally will happen because of our need to always have six home games. Scheduling philosophy and priority remains the same in this order.

1 - Six home games
2- All Division 1 opponents
3- Home and home"
