Eagles New field

Just got back from visiting a friend in Rathdrum over the weekend. We rode our motorcycles over by EWU to see the progress on the field and I left this 14" deep. I deemed it to be around the 5 yard line as you are looking at the stadium......it would be on the right.

This guy asked us what we were doing and my friend told him he looked like the guy from Walker, Texas Ranger. He didnt say anything except we cant go onto the field and have a nice day

As ugly as it is.... the color will be mutted when they add 3 inches of rubber pellets to it....

How soft will the field be? It looks like thin carpet over dirt. Will this be like our field or more like ISU’s?

It should be like the Sprinturf in WA Griz but in theory even better as far as playability. Artificial turf formulation continues to improve over time. However, it will probably turn out that the red dye is toxic and causes nasty rashes -- or maybe worse. Or it might be that it fades and becomes a nice shade of pink. That would really be something for EWU to be proud of!

Have you been on the field at WA/Griz? It will be very much the same.

ISU's is thin carpet (Astro Turf) over concrete. It is nothing similar. ISU's sucks really bad.

Other than the horrid color, EWU's would be great to play on.

Red do tend to do that. :thumb:
Now that would be funny!

I have. And my 6-year old wears it home after each game—the little rubber pieces stick like glue.

I’m glad to hear it will be a good surface. ISU’s field is scary. How many more broken bones will they allow before they do something about it.

Personally, I like the red turf--it’s unique. As long as it is safe for the players.

I plan to be there to see it in person. I’m looking forward to it.

Geezuz H Chryst... you guys need to get a life. Seriously. I mean, that's sort of funny and all... but come on. Grown men sneaking over to plant a grizzly emblem in a football field? Did you guys giggle like little schoolgirls while you were doing it? Classic.

3 things

First, I did "kind of giggle like a schoolgirl" but my friend didnt he thought I was a loser for even going to see the field.

Second, we get bored kicking your catasses every year and need something to pass the time.

Third, when the bobcat football offices were remodeled in 96 or 97 I put some Griz stickers in there in 5 different places. 3 of them are still there, I check every year. As long as they are there, the Griz will own your catasses.

Ive seen this stuff laid befor on a blue endzone. The Blue was really bright until the peletts were added. What you are looking at is dirt over pea gravel over 1 inch gravel and a full drain field. The carpet is about 6 inches long. After it is all laid and the hashes, endzone, numbers ect are cut and glued in they come along and add 3 inches of rubber pellets on the carpet and "sweep" it in. Its the same way UM got the new surface.

Im not saying it will be pretty, just saying it will lose about 2 shades of brightness.

Heck... if UM was struggling to get fans and someone threw in a huge donation... a maroon field would not hurt anything. IE... if EWU can turn this into a playoff run in the next 3 years, the fans will come, and when was the last time EWU was mentioned on ESPN..... I would put the over under on 3 times this fall just because of the new surface!!!

As I've said before, I think the red field is kind of cool and definitely unique. If it works for EWU and helps them with recruiting, etc., then I can only commend them for doing it.

Are you sure they are using rubber infill? A lot of the new synthetic surfaces also use sand as an infill.

Yes, we're going with a rubber pellet infill. The border around the field will be black turf, and there's talk of painting the track black, which would be awesome. Although I'd much rather have them take it out, but what can you do.

To all those that absolutely hate it; I'm glad. :thumb: I hope it pisses you off every time you see it or hear about it. I hope it ruins your day. Suck it b*tches!

And lastly, some photos of it so far:

Sweet, I'll head over tomorrow and have 'em dig it up. Thanks. :thumb:

You dont really think I would tell you how many I buried there do you?

You do?

AWWWW thats so cute!!!

:thumb:

No, but your dumbass is too fat and lazy to place more than one. Plus, even if you did, there'd be fairly noticeable marks in the sand since the field was laser leveled and rolled. I wouldn't be surprised if the workers already saw it and took them out.

You can put Grizz coins or even your 2nd PLACE Trophies under our new "State of the Art Red Turf, which is just like all the ones in the NFL(field turf fields) and thousands of College and Highschool facilities around the nation, but it won't help this year grissly boys, you will lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now stop your whinning about the field, it'll be the best and nicest in the "Big Sky". The Stadium still sucks, but let's "play some football". EWU is trying to improve its facilities and this is a great start.
