Could the Griz get left out of the playoffs?

Some of you keep making a big deal about how UM, or whatever team, hasn't beaten a top team--so I did some looking.

I looked at the top 15 teams--and excluding UM and MSU (who are nos. 5 and 13) because we know who they played--and then determined which of the top 15 (effectively top 13 due to the exclusions) had been beaten by a top 25 team.

The answer is that a top 15 (actually 13) team has been beaten by a top 25 team only 6 times.
No. 6 McNeese has been beaten by no. 8 SE La. No. 8 SELa has been beaten by no. 16 SDS. No. 9 SHS has been beaten by no. 6 McNeese and no. 8 SELa. No. 11 Coastal has been beaten by no. 18 Cha So. No. 15 YSU has been beaten by no. 1 NDS.

The reasons are as follows. The top "13" haven't lost many games. Some losses were to FBS teams. Some losses were to teams not in the top 25. Alot of top "13" teams haven't played many, if any, top 25 teams.

I realize that my methodology could be better or different, but I did it this way, and now have to do some other stuff. Feel free to fix or supplement it.

Disagree all you want, but then ask 10-1 Lehigh or CAA co-champions Towson how their playoffs went last year. Or for that matter Richmond, Eastern Kentucky or Northern Arizona. Some of us do follow these things.

Lol there you go being derogatory for no reason because you're upset I disagree with you. Maybe I agreed on your last statement. Maybe I honestly just don't want to argue with you anymore. Maybe you should get educated. Just maybe...

So I post logical information that you do not agree with and I am uneducated? You make a dumb post and I call you out on it, but I am being derogatory? Whatever makes you sleep at night.

:coffee:

I called you uneducated because you can't take someone disagreeing with you without being an ass about it. You call me an idiot yet I have a masters degree...like seriously kid join a debate team or something because you don't handle conflict well. I openly and nicely said I disagree with you yet you keep wanting to beat your point silly and fact is that I disagree and I'm an "idiot with dumb posts"

I disagree with you. Deal with it.

I am dealing with it just fine. I did not call you an idiot because of your education, I called you an idiot because of your stupid post. A smart guy like you should have been able to differentiate that.

Eriul, but no one lost to Fort Lewis, that is like saying what if the Griz lost to OPSU.

Point is, if SUU beats NAU and the Griz lose to MSU, I believe that on the resume, SUU would be considered before UM. The difference between 9-3 and 8-4 is not huge, and in this scenario, I would feel that SUU had demonstrated being a better team based on the results of their games. You are all hung up on the Davis game, but in this scenario, doubt that would be a huge deal. More about who you beat.

So we disagree on the significance of the uc Davis game. I pointed out the scenario so you would openly admit that there are losses that matter. Funny you still won't do that. I have openly stated all thread that I think suu would barely get the nod but it's not as clear as you make it out to be. A strong case could be made that the griz deserve more including the fact that the griz would never have been truly upset according to final standings. All 3 losses would be to top 10 teams whereas suu lost to uc Davis. It's closer than indicayed

SUU's record of 2-1 compared to UofM record of 0-3 against the same teams in this scenario would be of greater significance than SUU's loss to Davis, by a lot. A couple of quality wins (MSU, NAU, and even South Alabama) and one bad loss (Davis) would trump 3 quality losses (MSU, EWU, NAU)and one decent win (Cal Poly). If we both have the same record, they will look at games played against same opponents first and SUU would have the upper hand, period.

Fwiw I'm an idiot because of a dumb post. Doesn't that seem like an idiotic conclusion?

Apples and oranges

Has a team ranked in the top 5 ever lost on the final week and NOT made the playoffs in 16 team playoff let alone a 24 team??? Just asking

I disagree for many reasons but honestly this horse has been beaten enough.

That's it right there. In the scenario above the Griz are being compared to a team in another conference for one of the last couple playoff spots. Griz might get the spot, or not. And that's the point, nothing is 'guaranteed'.

I am not even sure there is an argument for the Griz not making it.

Yes.

In fact they were blown out by an unranked Montana team (well actully they were 6th -between the two rankings for Montana now) and it was the second to last week for Montana but the last week for Idaho. I can still hear the "who's number 6" chant.
lats year Lehigh went 10-1 lost their second to last game ranked 8th. They were ranked 5th the same week by the coaches poll though. NOTHING is a lock.....

I agree and i was just wondering if people think this would happen for first time ever(dunno if it ever happened0

Lol what? I've been passive all thread. At no point were you affecting my emotions. I honestly dunno how you could come to the conclusion that you yanked my chain. But I guess being overly aggressive and attempting to troll is the new egriz norm so... Cheers.

I just think that we want to be careful believing that the committee would never leave the mighty Griz out of the playoffs at 9-3 because we can outbid someone and have more gate revenue than anyone else. While this may be true to some point, it may also be a little ignorant on our part. I believe that there are a lot of members of the committe who actually would like to see the Griz snubbed given the chance to do so.

My point is that I think the Griz stand a very good chance of making the playoffs no matter what happens Saturday, but I think we need to also see the whole picture and not just assume that a committee made up of different people from different places around the country, is going to automatically include the Griz because of our history and ticket sales.

With that being said, all of this will be moot once the Griz roll out of Bozotown with a win.

Also very well put. To the NCAA the gate money from a single FCS football game is not relevant.
