Big Sky Commish Responds to UM/Sac Game Controversy

oldrunner said:
Having now seen the calls that you all are melting down over, I would say that the officiating crew got it as right as they possibly could. There is no way that officials see everything that goes on in a game with 22 players on the field. That is one of the reasons for having the replay booth for some calls. Even with the replay booth it is sometimes not 100%. That is why, by rule, the call on the field stands when there is not clear proof that the call on the field was incorrect. UM did not lose by some officials call. they lost by not stopping Sac when they needed to and by not scoring when they needed to.

Seems like UM fans have had it their way for so long that they totally melt down when the ball doesn't bounce their way. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly, and then think about it a bit.

The replay was clear. But, let’s take replay out of the equation. Can you seriously claim that there weren’t two blown OBJECTIVE in/out calls by BSC refs (maybe ref)?

I'm not sure our commish knows the definition of a "judgement call"

Pass interference, holding, etc are judgement calls. In/out-of bounds, touchdowns, etc aren't subjective and open to interpretation.

This guy just clowned himself.

Correct. This wasn’t a 50/50 couldagoneeitherway PI call. This is either right or wrong. And they got it wrong. Twice. That’s fully unacceptable, and his tweet is a fvcking joke and a slap in the face to fans of bsc athletics. Not that anyone should be surprised, as the league has shown repeatedly it doesn’t give two shits about its fans or it’s member teams (unless your program can’t afford a few bus passes to a conference basketball tournament; then they’ll bend over backwards).

That said, I take some exception to your final sentence. The commish has clowned himself multiple times prior to this.

There may actually be a hidden long-term benefit here. More and more people are realizing that UM has far, far, far outgrown this POS lowest common denominator conference, and are supporting leaving it. If you read the replies to this ridiculous yet fully predictable response from the league, this may very well be the spark that lights the fire. I hope Mr. Wistrcill enjoys leading a conference without its cash cow.

Dude. Ru serious? You haven’t won this conference since like 2009. Out grown what? You’re 2-2 this year about to be 2-3. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, we can find another 7-4 team to fill the 5 seed in the BSC.
Can you find another one that draws 26,000+? Most of this conference draws 5000 and depends on tenuous state funding. Which is usually doubled when Montana plays. Revenue is scarce in the BSC and Montana is the BSC leader every year. What is your plan to replace that? You're motivated to find a cupcake that won't be able to embarrass your ass like last November.

The perennial BSC champion is SacST and they did not prove Saturday that they were better than Montana. Get ready for another Trail of Tears this November.

Cats, let's bet $250 on the Griz/Cat game. Johnson has to play for UM. Sound good?

The Cats had an nice win Saturday. That poor long snapper must have gotten into the Catnip. I don’t understand the vitriol and overconfidence on behalf of Cat fans. Knocking the Griz and on their fan board is really in the vein of being “little brother.” Similar to the BSC refs - do better. It makes your whole fan base look like they have an inferiority complex.

What was I knocking? I simply explained how you haven’t outgrown the conference, inferiority complex is saying you’ve out grown a conference you can’t win.

Both Montana teams have outgrown this conference… Look at the quality of both schools' facilities and fan bases compared to other teams in this conference… No other schools even come close except maybe Weber State

Didn’t prove they were better? They beat you for a third straight time 🤣

Idc who plays, your program needs to learn how to win with back ups. So tired of the whining. Have you seen MSU’s injuries? We just beat Weber without 2 linemen, 2 safeties, 1 WR, 1 DB. 3 running backs. All 9 starters at one point. You cannot say the same. There’s the difference in a good program and a great one.

I don’t gamble $$ I’ll bet you our accounts tho..

I don’t disagree that the Montana state schools have our grown the confence in terms of viewership and generating revenue. But I just can’t get behind the shear ignorance that this Missoula team is some world beater in the conference. Nor have they been for 13 years.

Did we not just go to the quarterfinals last year on the back of our 5th string true freshman running back? Did we not go 3-1 with our backup QB last year? “Learn to win” is one thing. This is about referee incompetence. Try and keep up.

Now one person is saying that, that is how you are interpreting it

That doesn’t even compare to the cats injuries this year but Oh well. You were missing an above average BSC QB for what? half the game? and you think that was the difference maker. Sac wins that game 9/10 times this year or 3/3. Idk. Must’ve been the refs for the 3rd year in a row! Only the Gris get bad reffing!

Now or not? I’m not sure where you wanted to go with that. Because you had a poster talk about how this is a bad conference and that you’re team is above the BSC. Which just isn’t true at the moment.

Saying we are above the conference is not saying we are world beaters, is it? I would say both Montana schools are above this conference, unless the conference considerably ups its standards in many different areas. FCS is becoming a watered down division with many of our long time rivals moving up… We can all choose to sink with the ship or move on.

It was 3 quarters actually, but who's counting, clearly not you.

I didn’t, but did you see you were on sports center for the “WR fall down play”? I did have a good laugh with my coffee this morning.

Man, I turned it off and went to sleep so quickly that I didn’t realize they stormed the field. That’s fuckin’ hilarious!😂

Funny. You didn't beat Weber. Weber beat Weber. Christmas came early.
